[Polls] Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 Sim Update 2 Feedback

Do you have the Ship Traffic on? That location makes me suspect ships.

Ok folks. After many hours of trying to get SU2 to work here are my findings. I have a 4070 Super with an AMD7800x3d. Running at 4k on a 55inch TV. So with DLSS on Quality and framegen on Nvidia 2x I have to have texture resolution on medium, and TLOD on 100 and Object LOD on 100 , ray traced shadows off, so that…wait for it…i dont max VRAM because when the VRAM gets close to max the sim suffers stutters and grinds to a halt when i try and takeoff or land at an airport. If i am not at an airport i am getting 80FPS , but have had to turn down those settings so that i can land somewhere and stay under the limit. Now credit where credit is due, SU2 is really nice , smooth, better colours , just really enjoyable i just wish I didnt have to spend hours trying to figure out why the sim was so bad after updating. Why oh why is a few buildings and some airplanes and a few vehicles such a big problem. Anyway hope it helps folks

This pretty much echoes my experience with SU2 as well. I have a 4070ti and performance is great, just as long as the VRAM doesn’t get maxed.

Another great aspect of SU2 is that you can finally fly live weather at any time of the day. Great for those who fly at night irl, but want to fly during the day in sim and keep the live weather.

Although there are still some bugs to be worked out, I have to say that my experience with SU2 and now with SU3 beta is lightyears away from the launch. It has been so frustrating to spend every day trying to fiddle with every single setting just to make it work. Now I have set most things to medium high with an occasional Ultra having the time of my life flying the sim. Career still needs some work as most flight still end up in exiting so bad things done happen and having it say you exceeded the g limit when it first launches in career plane is not realistic.
That being said, Congrats to Microsoft/Asobo and all the others who are working hard to get the sim to where they said it would be at launch.

After SU2 does anyone feel the textures look kinda fuzzy and grainy? I was on TAA and switched to DLSS Quality and it seems a little better but I’d rather be on TAA … maybe me just making it up but does it look more distorted or washed out?

Latest Nvidia driver
4090GPU
OLED monitor running HDR
1440p

Appreciate any advice or ideas to try to get my picture back

Excellent job by the developers. Results are awesome.

It’s been a very troublefree update for me, with much better FPS and quality since SU2.

My MSFS is the store PC version, running on Win 11. I’ve never been in the beta trials. I only ever run free flight with the few well behaved aircraft and no traffic. The target is 2K graphics with 50 Mbps broadband and 32GB local cache.

Motherboard is Aorus B560M Pro, CPU is 11th gen i9 11900K, 3.5 Ghz, with 32GB DDR4 RAM, There is an AMD RX6800XT with 16G VRAM, plus the on-board Intel graphics to feed my home cockpit (3x32in 4K-capable curved monitors + 3x15" small screens 1920x1080 each for Air Manager panels etc), with the usual yoke, pedals, switches.

There is a large community content via Addons Link Manager, including about 15 of my own SDK designed airports and mods.

I use AMD’s Eyefinity to combine the three big screens into one at 7334 x 1360 and the three small screens are independent.

I am now seeing a sustained 40+ fps at busy airports (Orbx latest Sydney, Brisbane) and 60+ at medium to small ones with most things on ultra (only fauna is off, traffic high). It was in the high 20s to 32 before.

Picture quality, and ligting, has never been better. After a lot of fiddling I’ve settled on the AMD FSR3 settings, quality. Both LODS are at 200.

Like some other posters, I’m puzzled by the number of people still complaining about problems and using the old bug-ridden 2020. I’ve done my share of complaining in the past, and sure, there is a lot still to be fixed, but credit where it’s due - for me this SU has been a very big improvement.

Let’s hope we see at least one other in the coming months, with SU3.

Does anyone know what might be causing this? The sim hangs before I can click ā€œstartā€.

Wow great set up

Nice setup… and your content triggers me. I am using multiple screens too in my setup, 1 main screen and the other 2 for instrument panels.

Overall I am happy with the performance I get but did notice that my performance is much better when using just my main screen (60-70 fps) Using the other screens too and my fps will drop about 15 . Also my GPU is running at 80-90% with just the main screen but will drop to about 40% using all 3.

Do you experience the same?
Mainly the drop in % I would like to solve (btw CPU is running at max 20%)

First Flight with PMDG777F from Liege to Oslo. What the heck??? 120fps at the Airport before start-up, 80fps in flight with real life traffic. Grafics all on high, dlss quality, 5800x3d, 4080. Never had this kind of performances. Just when I was about to give up on msfs2024…

PMDG knows how to keep things lean and optimized for performance as well as good looks! I flew their models for years on Series X and they always performed better than any others. The same is holding true now that I have a PC. 772 best performing model in 2024 on my PC, bar none!

Game changing update! My biggest issue on XboxS was the blurring ground textures and scenery distance blurring; both have been fixed. It looks amazing. Huge amount of work has been done, only just finished reading the release notes! Nearly 100 updated airports, which I’m working my way through, each one looks stunning. Thanks for all the hard work.

So far, so good for me. The VR still has some minor stuttering of scenery with DLSS on (it’s smoother with TAA), but this is the first time I’ve been able to fly without enabling ASW for my Quest 3, which is a major improvement. Also, no ghosting of objects, even with an older version of DLSS. They also seem to have fixed the issue where some elements, like fog and distant city lights, were only rendered in one eye.

My only real complaint thus far, they STILL have not fixed the broken control mapping for the headphone simulation. (Default is ALT+H, but it doesn’t work, nor does remapping it to something else.)

SU3 takes care of that issue big time. Hopefully we will see a small update in a few days to fpr all addons and other lil bits and bobs. And hopefully that will sort it out. And i agree it’s a gamechanger.

Turning on FSR3 and frame generation actually causes more stuttering than when they’re off. I’ve already updated to the latest Sim Update 3 Beta, and the optimization is really poor.

When is the hotfix for the regression introduced of FPS tanking as soon as over runway threshold that was not there in SU1?

Or are we expected to put up with this massive regression for months when it was working perfectly before the update?

I have now used SU2 for several flights on my PC with RTX 3080 10GB. Actually I see no real difference compared to SU1. One thing though is a new popup complaining about a lack of resources and asking me to lower my setting. I’ll not do that, it worked ok in SU1. I haven’t changed any settings in SU2.

The A320Neo V2 has still bad performance compared to the PMDG 777 which has good performance and therefor the aircraft I currently use the most. Of course PMDG has it disadvantages, the major one is the dependency to SimBrief and third party navdata. It is a hate/love relationship with the 777 as it forces me to always have to manipulate the route so I can view the Lido charts in the sim EFB but I will accept that extra work to get an aircraft that is flyable, stable and performant.

I don’t think MS/Asobo will be able to do any more magical coding in the sim to solve performance issues. The main work has probably to be done on the addon front. Maybe other third party creators can learn from PMDG. It is absolutely remarkably that PMDG delivers so much better fps than any Inibuilds aircraft. Another solution is of course to by new hardware but prices for new GPU’s are ridiculously high, if that isn’t fixed in the future I think PC gaming is doomed.

I have to mention one highlight in the sim: the continuously updated flight planner. That team is really working agile and pushing new releases all the time compared to the old fashion waterfall SU updates from the rest of the teams. It shines when it comes to clever programming. Hopefully more third party creators will embrace it.

Is it just me or do the clouds look terrible in SU2 and is there any fixing it???
