Poor FPS after SU12

WARNING! The .dlss-file is very alike the .dlssg-file !!! It’s the file WITHOUT the “g” in it that you should change (before you have taken backup of the original file). For me chaning DLSS dll-files does nothing for the performance, only for the looks when using ANY of the DLSS-modes, DLSS-DLAA (my fav!) as well.

After all these years I have learned that Vsync in Nvidia control panel is not optimal, and using vsync in in game is neither optimal. The ONLY thing thats working for me is (with my g-sync compatible screen) is to have EVERYTHING OFF. The sync will work anyway! (and not so much stutter). But whats really has been helping me is turning ON Nvidia Reflex + Boost!

ALSO (sorry for all caps, but it is needed), is that we are all bound to MS servers that sends us the terrain data. These servers need some sort of overhaul, cause they are causing stutters almost all the time. I just wonder how many gamers that have got really, really expensive gear just cause they though the stutters was because of their system (well, could have been if the system was outdated, ofcourse), but Im on a 3060 Ti (8Gb so DX11 is to prefer) + AMD 5600X.

Also - turn on EVERYTHING that has to do with aircraft, vehicles, ground personel etc in the traffic settings. Then TURN OFF multiplayer!

Let me know how that works out for you. OH…and NVIDIA USERS - roll back your GPU drivers to the driver that came last in Februari. The newer ones are ■■■■, giving me so much stutter I was about to go loco! The “good” version is: 528.49.

Good Luck and safe flying! =)

Hello again.

First: That info about your work and your income, is just off topic. Who cares really? There is also people with limited income, that puts a lot of money on the simming. Personally, Im not that “into it”, that much. It’s ok for what it is for me, not a question of income at all. Tobii eyetracker is next om my list, and that about what I want to add to my experience. You dont have to buy a Pagani Zonda EVEN if you have the money for it. Leaving that behind I can only say that yes, its a very personal expericene for all users.

Why you should not delete or alter the “g” file, has nothing to do with the system - its because you dont know whats gonna happen if you do so. And always, always take backup, dont just replace files!

Yes, of course - if you gonna play with other people you cant be offline from multiplayer. But thats nothing new. I’m not playing with others (yet), so…Im happy I can turn that option off. Only interest for me would be playing in group. (the rest I dont care much about). AI Traffic or Real traffic is much better for overall realism I think.

Also…we should not really need to alter different config files or the dlss-connected files. This should be working “as it is”. Sadly, its not working… =/

also remember when rolling back NVidia driver first use DDU to get rid of all previous files and settings.

that’s quite a check list. I generally do most of those steps for a MSFS update.

One item I noticed missing was the MSI utility. (Message Based Signal Interrupts for your GPU). My 4090 and the default nVidia drivers aren’t enabled, More info here: Windows: Line-Based vs. Message Signaled-Based Interrupts. MSI tool. | guru3D Forums

For my setup, it sure seemed to help with having my 4090 due more work it seems. My rig is a 9700K, 4090, 64GB RAM, all NVME drives, I also use OpenXR toolkit and such. I’m using DX12, HAGS on, BAR enabled (for MSFS 2020). I get a solid 31FPS with TAA. If I use DLSS I can have a solid 45FPS. That’s flying into LAX, etc.

I know, all rigs are different, but I felt the MSI enabling did help with my setup. I merely share as an FYI…

I have msi utility. All drivers are up to date via the msi utility including bios .

Yes I did that. These my steps to use DDU and still did not work (I’ve done this multiple time differently):

-download the driver desktop
-Restart pc in safe mode no networking
-Unplug Ethernet cord from pc
-Start DDU (done it as admin and 2nd time no admin)
-Clean uninstall of Gpu
-Once clean, double check and get rid of all Nvidia folder manually
-restart Pc normal mode
-Double click Nvidia driver (done it as run admin also)
-install with No GeForce/only driver and usb-c
-once installed, plug back in Ethernet
-restart Pc

…still stutterfest

Revisiting my original post.

So I’ve played around with the Nvidia driver, settled on one from January I think which has given me the ‘best’ performance.

Jumping back into the sim, I’ve reduced all GSX and FS Traffic settings to the bare minimum. I’ve also reduced the graphic settings from high to medium.

Some days the sim starts silky smooth running good FPS (as it did before SU12 but running high graphic settings) then will reduce to a disappointing level once in the air for the rest of the flight. Other days it run consistently bad FPS but with no stutters.

Yesterdays gameplay was so smooth. What happened? Did MS experiment with new servers?

I’m still getting poor FPS when flying during the day, but a night it’s silky buttery smooth. Must be 7-8 fps improvement at least, possibly even more. So I’ve resorted to night flying…

I was having the same issues and I removed my NVIDIA drivers for my 3080 and rolled back to 528.49 with a clean driver install and the sim is running buttery smooth between 32-55 fps in 4K most settings on ULTRA 150 TLOD 100 OLOD. It’s way better than it was, although I do still get an occasional stutter when landing. Takeoffs, climbout, cruise, and decent are smooth. I have a 10900K CPU.

It goes without saying that I am not alone when I am saying that there are huge stutters and drop in FPS while landing in any of the study level Airliners ( 737, Fenix, A310 & MD82) when we are using VATSIM. This issue is clear at KLAX or EGLL

It was much smoother before Sim Update 12.

I really hope that Microsoft are reading this and will work hard to resolve this huge issue that has taken this beautiful Simulator in a backwards direction after SU 12.

Could someone help me with taking this issue to the developers and informing them that a huge part of the community is reporting problems especially during landings at starred airports such as EGLL and KLAX.

At KLAX I had massive stutters and nailed it down to the addon “Powerlines and Solar Farms”. My setup is now stable and shows between 30 to 35 fps at KLAX (IniScene).

For more performance (rural 50+, KLAX 30 min, EDDF 35 min, with frame generation all numbers are double as high) including traffic from FSLTL I did as follows:

  1. Set my 32 GB DDR4 RAM speed from 2133 to 2800 MHz (good for better OC)
  2. At Bios let AI Tweaker (ASUS) do it´s job and overclock the CPU as good as it goes (my CPU is now showing ASUS´s 50% OC-Rating) - manual overclocking did not work for MSFS
  3. Enable Windows Game mode, enable Hyperthrading
  4. Set CPU priority to high (automatic via FlightSimAutoPriorityService for 5 bucks)
  5. Mount a Ramdisk of 12 GB für Rolling Cache (ImDiskToolkit), can be more if 64 GB are installed
  6. Preload manual cache at your desired major airports at Medium only onto a SSD drive, my internet speed is acutal 90 MBs with promoted 100 MBs yet I experienced issues causing microsstutters which are almost completely gone in preloaded areas (loading high quality is hard on the GPU as I experienced)
  7. Run the latest NVidea Game Ready driver
  8. Keep windows updated
  9. I did the NDU registry change to 4 yet do not know if this has an impact
  10. All settings to Ultra except Level of Objects 150 and LOD depending on the scenario (KLAX 150, EDDF 250, most other areas 350) for my use case, LOD has most impact on CPU
  11. For better visuals I use TAA with 135 render scaling - DLSS was great with my RTX2080Ti yet is no longer needed with RTX4090 and of coure the RTX frame generation is superb, doubling fps
  12. Check addons just after installing at a heavy load airport like KLAX (see first sentence) and disable if needed
  13. Run Intelligent standby list cleaner app for constantly freeing up memory
  14. Update FSUIPC and put “NumberOfPumps=0”
  15. Allocate enough virtual memory (see Youtube videos)
  16. I would like to upgrade for a 13700K and DDR5 RAM but I think it is not worth it because I would also need a new mainboard with an outdated chipset in regard to the 14th Gen Meteor Lake. Therefore I will wait and only upgrade my DDR4 RAM to 64GB in order to increase the rolling cache Ramdisk

Just my 2cents. Hope it helps someone
