One last thing,… Westland 's. Another ‘Precious Moment’ no less.
Back in the late 60’s my Brother and i were in school near Reading. During those 4 year’s Prince Phillip would land on the Rugby Pitch in his Westland Helicopter before carrying out an Inspection of what had been The Royal Merchant Navy College.
I had just completed my first Wood Work Project and as HRH came down the Corridor towards me i was Standing proudly by my Coffee Table. Prince P had his hands behind his back when he stopped to look at my table. I knew what he was going to do and sure enough, HRH placed the Royal finger on the Corner of my Pride and Joy and ,… Sure enough the table rocked on it’s leg’s.
Hmmph ! exclaimed the Prince “I’ve got one just like that in my Study "
Many year’s later i was visiting Badminton with my Girlfriend’s Dad who was the Starter for the Cross Country. We were in the Royal Enclosure eating our Sarnies in a little Yellow Skoda. On all sides were Bentley’s , Roller’s and Range Rover’s. Not long after listening to a certain Equestrian Princess cursing out a Groom a Range Rover parked right beside us and a voice said " Your Sandwich is making me feel quite Peckish”
A bit of a Predicament here and i’m thinking,… Is it against Royal Protocol to offer HRH Prince Phil a bite of my Sarnie ? "
Here we are Flying over this well Rendered Scenery and there it is !,… The Site of the old Newcastle Town Hall !
Not so Precious Memory,… 1970,… Hitchhiking up from Wiltshire to see the Byrd’s Gig at the Town Hall and then Running for our Live’s from a Determined Gang of Local ‘Youth’s’ who were intent on making an ‘Impression’ on these Long haired Afghan Coat clad Southern Types.
We lost them in the what was then the New Shopping Center.
Memories of the Drive up from the South to visit Relatives in Newcastle.
No Angel of the North in those Days but by the time we reached Scotch Corner at that point in the journey Dad’s Geordie Accent was back and much to my Brothers amusement.
Later that evening we were in Uncle Bob’s house and Grandad was sitting on the Sofa admiring his Shiny new Shoes exclaiming to anyone who was paying attention to him ,…
" Will Ya look at these Boot’s You can see your face in them".
By this time Grandad had very much Lost his Marbles and this was being repeated over and again.
Meanwhile Pete, (7yrs) was standing with the Men drinking his Lemonade and listening to Dad and the family chatting away (aye).
Pete would interject and mimic Dad,… Pete to Dad ,… Dad ! ,… Yes Pete ?
It’s Champion isn’t it Dad !
Pete to Dad,… Dad !,… Yes Pete ?,… Way Aye Ya Bugga ! and with that Dad started moving in for the Kill which meant a Hard Stamp was about to be administered on Pete’s Foot.
Pete Side Stepped the descending Shoe which landed on one of Grandad’s new Shiny Boot’s ! Grandad was not made Speechless by this Destruction of his Latest Pride and Joy.
With yells of rage from Grandad and Aunt Lotte calling out,…
“Best Go down the River Boy’s as Quick as you can”,…
