Q&A Questions

I transcribe many of the Q&As for News and Announcements (and in fact, I’m writing out the transcript for this one, too). I have to replay him several times at loud volume sometimes to understand what he is saying, so I feel your pain.

I have shared the request for a mic check :+1: in the TL3 category on Discord, where CMs read as well.

What I really wonder:
When has anybody of these 3 guys written at least one line of code?
If they are able to code. Or at least understand UML and know how to work with it.
Got a bit baffeled with the the reaction to reduce the framerate only when in the menus:
“Enable it when in the menu and disable it when in the 3d world.”

Why not something like:

if (m_InMenu == true)
{
   renderer.slowRefresh = 1;
}
else
{
   renderer.slowRefresh = 0;
}

Maybe they really do not understand what we want?

There was a case when “New World” got released that some Graphic Cards got destroyed by unlimited FPS! It’s only fair to say that the destroyed Graphic Cards have been badly designed as well.
But alone the energy WASTE(!!) when downloading a patch or in the worst case the whole game is more then ridiculous with FPS that high.

The community is too harsh by far. These chats man, honestly. What a bunch of dodo’s post their comments there. With highlighting, repetitively the same questions. Speedy can’t keep up with deleting them.
It’s my take that they just hate to read all these comments when they just want to celebrate their next milestone. I don’t envy them, sitting there with their heads on the block.
Jorg looked just so tired that I felt pity for him.
It’s just impossible for some members to be polite and patient.
But on the other hand, they certainly made a big mistake on the xbox, that overshadowed the party this Q&A could have been. And that really was a pity. Slow down was one of the greater sentences I heard yesterday. ( o no it’s the day before yesterday already on my clock :winking_face_with_tongue:)

Why, then, doesn’t this individual interface with us more and give us a sense that our issues are being managed?

For instance, why are so many of the technical aspects of our troubleshooting and whatnot based on pure speculation and educated guesswork?

If the devs could explain how something is actually working or how something is supposed to work, that would be extremely helpful.

Something as basic as some insight into why an Xbox Series X running the base sim can have such radically different user experiences would be helpful for understanding what goes on with this simulator’s erratic behavior.

Being able to confirm if the issues truly are network/server related would spare a bunch of typing and speculating and reinstallation time if none of that is going to fix anything.

They had the chance to address the SU9 (and WU9) debacle right at the start.
Instead they advertised the overhyped Top Gun Maverick DLC.
Let alone this “slapstick” move with these sun glasses …
And if Jorg looked tired, well it’s a sign for me that at least he has understood that they made some big mistakes in the past which start to fall on their feet.

I got a strong feeling Seb really didn’t want to be there. Whatever the reason might be (late time, other things to do, etc), he didn’t seem into it at all and seemed like he couldn’t wait for it to be over.

And I feel for you, good sir. Martial’s English is quite good, although not quite to the level Seb’s is. So that can make him a little harder to understand. Since I speak French, I’m probably able to make a bit more sense of some stuff that would be harder for others when he sometimes answers in English but using a French sentence structure.

Like you, I have to watch the Q&A after the fact and find myself scrubbing back often for when Martial speaks. I really hope he can get this sound issue sorted out. His sound used to be fine, but it seems like now the combination of the room he’s in (too much room reverberation) and the mic he’s using just destroy his audio quality completely.

That’s one area I’ll never see. lol

But thanks for doing that. Hopefully this makes it back to Martial and he can get his audio issues sorted.

I can guarantee you that’s exactly the issue. This is my take on it…

He most certainly did. As enthusiastic as he can be, he just wasn’t quite as “bubbly” as he normally is this time around.

I agree. We should always remember the person, keep it professional. But with all due respect, and as great as it is, it is also buggy. There’s no point in beating around the bush. This has been out for nearly 2 years. It’s not even marketed as beta or early access. They can’t hide behind this. When they say it’s a 10 year project, I think we all took that to understand they will add features over that time. Not break, fix, break, break, fix, add, fix, break…for 10 years.

Today I tried to take a look at that deathstar fantasy whatever plane in the hangar just for giggles. I had the Fenix selected…and guess what I found that even the hangar is just broken. I mean you just flat out can’t look at big planes…lol. I mean…is there anything that isn’t broken? Bush trips apparently are broken too. The new missions in the DLC are broken if you have menu animations disabled. I mean…come on.

We all love this sim. When it works its the best piece of software on my machine. But it’s always a gamble.

I guess they really lived up to the release of maverick. It’s not to everybody’s taste, I read that too. But they really wanted to give us this expansion, and I don’t agree with anybody who is complaining about this. These people belong to the dodo’s I mentioned above. The Sun glasses just were a nice gimmick to enjoy the moment. I found it cool and hilarious but tastes differ.
My hope is that they can sort the xbox bug out soon, so that the black snow will stop falling and everybody can get back to their projects.

You are over generalizing here. Let’s keep it professional. There’s so much that isn’t broken. Man! The fun I have in this sim is beyond explanation!

Hi guys, let’s not go at each other, please. If you have a problem with another post, please flag it and let moderators handle it instead of engaging other users.

Yes, you can still have fun. I have fun too. Sometimes I’m just in awe when the lighting is right, and you break through the clouds. It is brilliant. Sometimes I sit on the ground in VR, and just listen to the rain hitting the canopy before starting the engine. It is awesome.

But then I open the panels…and they are broken. Then I got a disconnect message during takeoff. Then Atc sends me into a mountain. Then I want to land but the runway is invisible due to snow. Then the sim randomly crashes. Then I load back in and my logbook is gone. Then my fps suddenly half. Then my TrackIR suddenly stops working forcing me to restart. Then my controllers turn off and when I turn them back on the sim CTDs. Then the glideslope sends me into the ground. And, and, and

We can learn to live with all these, and have fun despite them. But ideally we can find a way to communicate with them and get them to actually fix these, and hopefully improve upon them over time.

What many of us find so frustrating is that they seem to instead focus on random extensions and other things nobody asked for. Like someone said above, the xBox crowd will be gone when they get bored, and Cyberpunk xyz comes out, no amount of arcade DLCs to score points doing random missions will keep most of them engaged for a decade. But that is who it seems 90% of their concern is aimed at. Just to get as high a player count as possible for a short period of time.

Another quote from the last Q&A:
“The 3rd Party Devs need to test their product against any update we bring. When Microsoft brings an Update [to Windows] they cannot test every thousands of apps.”

Let’s get a bit in detail.
In the “Insider state” for about 6 months. When I find a problem in any of the software I write (driver + UI + some Application for a Sim Racing Hardware company in Germany) I have plenty of time to fix it. And I can call a Dev at Microsoft and get Support. And I have the documentation at the day the new insider version is available.
Microsoft NEVER broke anything in their core. They disabled functionality, yes. But only after telling us, like: “Hey we will not support this feature anymore in about 1 year. Please have a look at your code, and react accordingly.”

Even a small software developer from france who made a great piece of software for sim racing is telling me that he changed anything which might cause problems with my private sim racing software project (some say It is a reference as well for ACC).

Little example from this smart guy how you do changes in software:

In the early days we need to access his variables with

[DataCorePlugin.GameData.NewData.Rpms]

after an update about 1 year ago we only need

[GameData.Rpms]

And guess what?
Both variants work!

THIS is smart!
THIS is how you can bind 3rd party devs to you.

I really did get your point, but I want to reiterate that the Xbox is a serious entry point to the sim and my Series X performs so much better than my Razer Gaming laptop that I’ve stopped using it and solely fly on the Xbox — even to the detriment of not having access to my DC-6 or 247.

The quality of the Xbox is that good. I’ve invested nearly $2k in flight peripherals and I was able to do that largely in part to the cost of a Series X being massively less than another PC.

We aren’t all snot-nosed kids jacked up on Monster Energy drinks who have the attention span of a flea. Some of us are (and I loathe this term) “serious simmers”.

In our community flight today I had 3 CTDs.
Sim was running fine the whole day.
1h before the event I got 3 disconnected messages.
Event starts, all went well for about an hour.
Then suddenly, sound crackles, graphics stood still for 2, 3 seconds. Then crash.
Started the sim again, CTD on the world map.
Started again, was able to join the flight again (one of my best interceptions outside DCS :slight_smile: )
15 Minutes later: I saw the desktop!

Awesome! So, for continuity, I guess the question is: does he regularly interface with the devs to keep them informed on what is going on over here. That is the statement I was replying to.

And if so, could he be included in the Dev Q&A sessions to be the technical liaison between the Community and the Dev team. Or at minimum, could he make sure the Dev team gets prepped with the right information and frame the topic/question/issue for them in advance.

I don’t doubt it. Welcome, I’m very happy it’s working for you. But I would bet good money that you are in the vast minority.

And I’m not saying this because I hate xbox or casual players. I really do hope they have fun and maybe eventually they will get a more serious interest in the hobby, and hey if not then at least they had some fun. But I do feel that it costs them so much time and money to focus on this and their core audience gets neglected. And so far, for whatever reason, it doesn’t seem like the additional profits from the new market are able to being put to use to offset that cost.

I am in no position of authority to answer that question. I’m not authorized to speak on their behalf. I can say that all of the community managers are responsible for liaising with the development team.

They released an open beta and there were no changes from the last release candidate to the final version.

There is no excuse really for 3rd parties to be caught with their pants down like DC designs with their concorde.

The “they change things for the final build” excuse hasn’t held water for the last two sim updates. This is purely the difference in attitudes between the different devs, some understand the nature of the beast and get things done the others plug their ears and blame Asobo for all their shortcomings.

I fully agree with Jorg here, if you don’t engage with the beta and test your products then don’t cry to them when things fall over on final release.
