Recommend the best companion apps to use alongside MSFS2020

AirHauler 2 is available for MFS, for those who want an in-depth airline management sim, without any monthly fees, and which you can use on or offline depending on your preference.

Available from Just Flight here: Just Flight - Air Hauler 2 (for Microsoft Flight Simulator)

highly not recommended. Its a database-table-simulator. Guys, get your software at least close to the 21st century please.

Actually, it isn’t - it’s designed to get you flying places you don’t usually go to. How much of the management side you get into, is up to you. Thanks for the feeback though.

For anyone that wants a good EFB / Electronic Checklist app on iOS, these are based on real checklists, and very similar to those used by real airlines. Available for download are A320, B737, PA-28 etc. https://apps.apple.com/us/developer/lukasz-musial/id670046692

Re LittleNavMap I’ll second that
My best addon, by far. looks busy when you start it until you take out the overlays that you don’t want, it has a LOT of functionality.

I have just tried the perfect free companion to check your landings and take offs. Go get Nguyenquyhy Flight-Recorder . For freeware this is remarkable, read the limitations and features, it works really well, and you will see excellent video of your flight

I don’t think anyone has mentioned Jumpseat Radio yet, which is one of my favourites. A float-on-top list of local radio stations, updated as you fly.

It’s huge for immersion and adds to the sense of travel. It’s really interesting to listen to the variety of music and talk radio topics around the world while checking on those instruments.

Hi,
I would like to suggest my own app:

MSFS virtual cockpits are wonderfully immersive but can become challenging when flying requires to actuate critical knobs and levers quickly.

  • Takeoffs may require to quickly retract gear and/or flaps before critical speeds are reached.
  • Landings may require to adjust flaps (or even gliders’ spoilers) and/or trim without delay.

Even with dedicated hardware such as quadrants, having to leave your mouse may badly delay other actions such as preparing the aircraft (lights, accessories), completing checklists, answering ATC, etc. I guess using VR mode makes all of these even more challenging.

The solution I use for quite some time now is this small utility that connects to MSFS to map critical actions to mouse moves combined with dedicated buttons pressed.

Since many mouse are equipped with forward/backward buttons and these are not mapped by default to anything, the utility comes with preconfigured mappings suited to various aircraft types using these buttons:

Mouse Button(s) MSFS Control
Forward alone Throttle
Forward+Backward Propeller or Mixture or Spoilers (for jets and gliders)
Backward alone Flaps (forward-backward move) or Landing Gear (left-right move)

NB: Controls with few positions such as flaps and gear are configured to wait for the buttons to be released before actually doing anything so you can revert an inadvertent move.

Otherwise, you can edit a documented Custom.ini mappings file to use other buttons, control other Simulation Variables, etc.

Hope it helps!

Cheers,
Arnaud

Thanks y’all! Added.

Yeah, I also very much recommend all (three) Nguyenquyhy’s MSFS apps:
The original: GitHub - nguyenquyhy/Flight-Events: A small system to track a group of aircraft in flight simulators and facilitate community events https://events.flighttracker.tech/
The 2nd: GitHub - nguyenquyhy/Flight-Tracker-StreamDeck: A Stream Deck plugin for flight simulator
and the third: GitHub - nguyenquyhy/Flight-Recorder: Record and replay flights in MSFS

Hi
I hesitate between vfrmap and littlenavmap
which is the best compromise to make vfr and ifr ?
Thank you for advance
PapPilote

Google

VFR - littlenavmap
IFR - simbrief/navigraph/projectfly

That’s all I been using for years. I don’t get down in the weeds with apps. Some people love having heaps of windows/programs open.

Hi
Thank you, i has installed Navigraph Chart and pay a subscription see Create Account Navigraph
And Install Navigraph Suite
It’a a good application
PapaPilote

Navigraph is great for me, all the charts, a plane icon displays my current position on the map, charts (SID STAR etc.) can overlay the current map, parking gates, taxi ways with plane displayed makes it easy to navigate airports and work with ATC , save flights .

I run Navigraph on another PC and display it next to my multiscreen main display, it’s cheap enough that I haven’t looked at the free alternatives, I also used SimBrief (which is now owned by Navigraph so I expect some new integration between them)

Hi
Navigraph is a really good tool for prepare and follow the flight, but not for prepare an vfr flight with the word map.
I will test install Little navmap for prepare and follow my vfr flight.
To be continued

I’m surprised there’s no mention of SkyElite on here.

It is a paid program (roughly $25), but I’ve found it very useful. The demo has received many complaints, mostly because it’s so limited. But if you purchase it, IMO, it’s well worth it - especially for $25.

The best way to describe it, is it’s kind of like a G1000. Emphasis on “kind of”. It has a PFD built in, that works great on touch screens. You can set and change autopilot settings with touch (or clicks with a mouse).

It’s browser based, so you basically install the “server” on your FS machine, then you can access SkyElite from anything with a web browser. You can use the same computer, you can use a laptop, a tablet, smart phone
 Android, Linux, Windows, Apple
 Literally, anything with a browser.

SkyElite also has a MFD on it that shows all airports, VOR’s, and all other useful flight information. You can get detailed airport information as well.

You can also adjust COM frequencies in it and NAV Frequencies. It gives you detailed in flight information such as gear position, flap position, throttle, prop and mixture position, Trim positions (rudder, elevator, ailerons), gives you elevation data of what’s in front of you, wind speed and direction, OAT, Zulu time and local time, distance to next waypoint
 The list goes on.

I have STKP and Air Manager too, but SkyElite I use the most. I’d recommend checking it out!

Thanks added!

Sky elite is great. I use an iPad and an Amazon fire. One on pfd and the other on map. Great for planes without a glass cockpit.

A couple months ago I bought a program on the Just Flight store, EFB Electronic Flight Bag, after Mark from the SimHanger Youtube channel recommended. Aside from having a moving map I’ve not used it for anything else, does anyone know if I use it to track AI planes and ships?

https://www.lrmclient.org/
What can I say, passengers clapping (optional) when I butter my landing and a quick info of my landing rate in-game using normal norifications. Love it.

LRM is a free tool that enables you to monitor and track your flights and aircraft landing rates within your flight simulator.

Features

  • Easy to install download and run the installer - you’ll be up and running in a few seconds (next, next, next etc)!
  • Lightweight only a few megabytes of space required on your machine!
  • Easy to use just run the application and it’ll track your take-off and landing rate.
  • Run it on a remote machine LRM can be run on a remote machine when using WideFS.
  • Display the FPM landing and take-off rate in-sim No more having to minimise your sim to see the landing rate, you can choose to show the landing rate (FPM) directly in the sim!
  • Flight logbook linking the LRM client to a free FSHub.io account enables you to record all your flights, routes flown and landing statistics.
  • Web-based GPS tracking you can monitor your aircraft position on any device, anywhere

  • Cabin applause (optional) had a good landing? You can enable cabin feedback by having a roar of passenger applause!
