We really have got to hope that Seb gets the question and not Martial or Jorge. Seb is the only one who goes into any detail.
Martial goes into detail of some things as well, they have to fix his mic tho ![]()
Everyone has decent microphones except him for 3 years now haha
I don’t think Asobo is not going to support this kind of mod - especially if it makes a positive difference in the rendering of the atmosphere at sunset and sunrise. An Asobo developer did download the project files from Gitthub, so they are at least actively investigating it.
But, the moderators (correctly) want to shut down any discussion on this forum of how users can hack the MSFS executable to implement the changes “unofficially”, and they are right to do so. Such discussions are a clear violation of the forum TOS, and if someone makes a mistake in editing the main executable file, they could damage their installation.
The sim correctly does this after the sunset. You see the top center is actually brighter than the areas on both sides. This is the effect I’m talking about. At some point, the top center is no longer darker than either side. The sim holds on to brightness away from the sun too long and creates an unrealistic look imo. Ya’ll can disagree as all of you seem to but I think Im right.
Life goes on. ![]()
No, I’m talking about during earlier sunset / later sunrise, when you look at the you will see that there will be two darker sides towards 90 and 270 degrees from the sun, and brighter sides towards 0 and 180 degrees from the sun, creating a lobe shape.
You are overthinking this. They are restricting this for a specific reason:
Support.
Do you know how hard it is to troubleshoot problems of people who have altered their files?
Which is also why they force updates on everybody as soon as they are released. So that all core sim files are exactly the same across the board.
It makes finding problems much easier.
That is all there is to it, it has nothing to do with internal resistance to implement this change themselves.
I agree. I think it’s really reasonable that Asobo doesn’t want people to hack their .exe files, especially given the risks involved, which is why even I have been warning against it since the beginning. Remember that the .exe files contain not only data but code as well, so any wrong modification will lead to unpredictable behavior. For instance someone could accidentally change a read system call to a write system call, and that certainly would wreak havoc with their installation. So simply backing up the .exe file is not enough.
While the posts about the hack got removed, no one touched my posts and in fact it was mentioned positively by Chewwy and other moderators multiple times, so I don’t think they’re internally against this whatsoever. And I’m pretty sure they’re at least giving it a serious look. Their issue is with hacking .exe files, not my proposal. If there was a way to implement this as a mod without hacking .exe files, I’m sure they would be fine with it.
Here’s a demonstration of what I mean - this screenshot is taken using the drone camera with an extremely high FOV to show as much of the sky as I can:
Notice how the area towards the sun and the area 180 degrees away from the sun is much brighter compared to the area 90 degrees away from the sun, which creates a lobe shape, this is realistic and is a result of anisotropy of Rayleigh scattering, as can be seen from the Rayleigh scattering phase function:
Light is assumed to be unpolarized for rendering, so the one shown with the solid line is the phase function of interest here.
In short, I think it’s accurate, but it’s possible that it looks excessive to some people due to high FOVs showing a huge part of the sky in a small area. If further tuning is indeed needed for exposure and/or multiple scattering, that could also help making the sky more uniform.
Thanks. This really is one of the most educative topics on the forum. Great to see so much knowledge combined in one area. I’m sure Asobo is listening.
How do we know they are listening?
I hate to harp on this but you are now using presunset sky appearance to claim that the sims innaccurate postsunset appearance is accurate.
Look at post 380. It is far after sunset. The effect you say is “accurate” is indeed accurate before sunset but not after.
Please don’t support the sim’s current inaccurate portrayal or we’ll never get rid of it.
I doubt that @Biology2394 is supporting the sims’s current imaccurate portrayal there.
After all, he is the one who started this thread, asking for changing it.
It’s too late in development. Unless you want them to delay the update again.
Nevermind, just read the above post.
They already delayed the release for a week, so…
If this gets talked on the next dev session, I bet they’ll just say this envolves other systems, bla bla bla, it’s in the pipeline but priorities…
To be fair, this is really just a grafical issue and nothing really game breaking or simulation breaking. There are other more glaring issues which really needs to be solved/improved.
So it would be totally reasonalbe if they say, “hey, yes we noticed you, we will add it to the pipline with low priority and fix it once there is time for it”.
And as you could see from the test above, it indeed seems to invole other systems when it is done right - just changing the view coefficnets seems to not do the trick 100% ![]()
For you maybe. for me it’s totally unrealistic and puts me away from flying at sunset.
So there’s that, differente views…
