I Fixed it! I played around with Rolling cache and Google Maps Add on. now it is working
I have the MS Store version.
MSFS 2020 will not load after SU 8.
Have uninstalled/reinstalled 5 times.
Have reinstalled Win 11.
Have tried every âtrickâ from this and other forums.
The program will not work.
I9 10900K
32 GB Ram
Gigabyte 3080 with 10 GB VRAM
ASUS Tuf-GamingZ590-Plus WiFi
Gigabit FIOS 1 GB internet
What tricks constitute every trick?
Post what you have tried, and folks may pick up something you missed.
Before trying uninstall/reinstall of MSFS 2020 I reset MS Store, reset XBox app, uninstalled/reinstalled Gaming Services, restarted all. Made sure the community folder was empty and that I didnât have any third party files installing with MSFS 2020 so it was a âvanillaâ install.
Downloaded MSFS 2020 via XBox.
Finally uninstalled MSFS 2020, then refreshed WIN 11 via a clean install from USB thumb drive.
Re-started MS Store, restarted XBox app, reinstalled MSFS 2020.
Reinstall took over 5 hours even though I have Gigabit FIOS hardwired from router to computer.
Game started. I closed the game and attempted another start (becausee Iâd seen this before, game loaded, then crashed, then would not restart) and game would not load past the same screens showed in the first post on this thread.
Iâve had a copy of Flight Simulator on various computers since MS started the game nearly 30 years ago.
Had been pretty happy with the game until SU 8.
Thanks
Here are a few things to consider:
Did you ever have the Google Map replacement mod installed?
When you uninstalled the sim, did you delete any remaining folders that were left behind?
All Windowâs and MS Store updates installed?
Uninstall/reinstall graphics card drivers?
Uninstall any third party antivirus?
Ensure open path through Windowâs firewall?
Date,Time and Location on PC correct?
Try with a Free VPN to confirm no ISP issues?

Did you ever have the Google Map replacement mod installed? (No)
When you uninstalled the sim, did you delete any remaining folders that were left behind? (As many as I could find, unless they are âhiddenâ files somewhere MS has not identified to users.)
All Windowâs and MS Store updates installed? (Yes)
Uninstall/reinstall graphics card drivers? (Yes)
Uninstall any third party antivirus? (Only have Win 11 antivirus installed)
Ensure open path through Windowâs firewall? (Not sure, MSFS worked before SU 8 without firewall tweaks. What did MS change that now requires me to change firewall settings?)
Date,Time and Location on PC correct? (Yes, and ensured proper language pack installed)
Try with a Free VPN to confirm no ISP issues? (No, was not an issue before SU 8. What changes in SU 8 require VPN?)
Answer to firewall: Check and ensure, who knows what Windowâs may have done.
Answer to free VPN: Same as above. There are numerous posts in here where this has fixed similar issues, none of the posters believed it could have helped prior to trying.
I suggest âworkaroundsâ based on my experience here in the forums, it is quite extensive.
I donât have your PC here to try by myself, and I have no idea what may or may not work to fix the issue.
In your case where you have tried a lot, these are things I noticed you hadnât mentioned.
All I can do is suggest, in this case, things I know from experience have caused/solved this exact issue. If you donât want to try, it is your sim!
Again, These suggestions may or may not work. All cases seem to be different.
OK, thanks.
Changes to Firewall - can you point to the recommendation posts please?
Same for a VPN.
REgards.
For firewall check do this:
In the Windows Search Bar type in Control Panel and click on it
Click on âWindows Defender Firewallâ
Click on âAllow an app or feature through Windows Defender Firewallâ
Click the âChange settingsâ button
Look for the following apps in the list:
Microsoft Flight Simulator
Microsoft Store
make sure each app has 3 ticks, 1 to the left of its name, 1 in the Private column, 1 in the Public column
Click OK
Click the X to close off âWindows Defender Firewallâ
Thanks all.
My Firewall settings were all correct, all boxes checked for both MSFS and MS Store.
As for VPN use, my PC directly connected to router via ethernet, and router is directly connected via ethernet to FIOS ONT. I get 950 GBs routinely on the PC and had 6, 7 ms ping times to the east coast MS servers when the game was playable. Agree that Azure likely severely limits access as, when the game did work prior to SU 8, I routinely got the ânot enough bandwidthâ warning.
So, will give the VPN thing a try.
But, the game still not playable now.
So, basically reformatted drive C: and performed complete fresh install of WIN 11 and took computer to ânewâ state.
Added bare minimum programs to the drive, refreshed MS Store, reloaded Store related Apps, restarted a reset XBox then downloaded MSFS 2020 in âvanillaâ state.
The thing still will not run.
Time for a refund from MS and wait for X Plane 12 I guess.
Same thing here. I have been running fs2020 since day one. I have thousands invested in this game.
Never had a single problem until SU8. When SU7 was still out I tried the beta SU8. It would never run. I could always revert to SU7 and things worked perfectly. Tried the beta several times. The problem was in the beta SU8. After the forced SU8 by microsoft the game will not run. I have been able to play it by disconnecting the wifi and ethernet cable.. So I am offline. The game boots up fine and there are no problems. Plug in the ethernet and no boot. I opened a ticket with the zendesk. So far they have done nothing but give me the run around. They have wasted many hours of my free time with their guesses. I too an fed up with the B.S.
Not much I can do at this point..
I have to wonder if this wasnât caused by MS/Asobo in an attempt to stop the google map add-on..
Anyway I doubt you will find any real help on this forum.
I can get the game to play by doing to following.
1 run the game in the off line mode. (unplug ethernet and turn off your wifi).
or
2 Plug in the ethernet cable until the blue bar ends on the right side.
Unplug the ethernet cable.
wait until the welcome screen appears. ( the lower right market place will be grayed out).
Plug in the ethernet cable . After a minute the market place should light up.
Click on the world map and select your aircraft.
Click on your departure location.
On my system everything seems to load ok.
Photogrammetry is working.
If you switch menus and it stalls out on you try unplugging the ethernet cable to see if it clears the stall.
And yes the VPN thing is another waste of time.
My ping times to the East coast is 15ms. with the VPN it goes to 230 msâŚ
I would hardly call it a waste of time, speed is going to depend on the VPN you choose.
If you didnât notice those posted above, there are many other posts in here from folks who successfully use a VPN.
Hi, i found a solution:
My problem was that the Sim get stuck when i press âfly nowâ, and then started to load forever.
Before that i have notice that when i pick an airport, the map don´t load enterely whit the roads and other details of the Bing map´s. So i started to think that the problem is related whit the maps.
Over a week or so, i install the Google map replacement, and everything works fine until SU8.
So, i proceed to unnistall the GMR and erease the 2 lines wrote on my HOST file: C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
After that i reload the sim and everything works great again.
I hope my case helps to other people!.
Happy landings!!

Thanks for the tip.
Was travelling this week so just tried it, and it worked.
Would be interesting to know why an active internet connection causes the program to hang. The â5Wsâ on this would be interesting to know.
Funny that an application that touts connection/usage of data from Azure Web Services has to be disconnected from the internet to load and run.
Thanks again for the assist.
I finally found the solution for my system. Not what I wanted but I can now at least run the sim without a problem. I enabled wifi on my computer and disconnected ethernet. That solved all the hang-ups. So no more wired connection. My guess (at best a guess) is it is something in the router. I am on fiber optics (Fioptics) and the router is a ZyXelâŚ
My problem is, for the first time ever, that with a photogrammetry on the FPS drops instantanelly to 1FPS and the sim, after pressing âFly nowâ. With a photogrammetry off everything is normal and super fast. I tried a lot of things but without any succes. With a photogrammetry ON, the sim is unflyable.
