Sim Update Beta 4 Discussion Thread

I tried the Aerostar in the SU4 Beta when it was released. Right off the bat I couldn’t even move the mag switch past the right position. I don’t know how many beta builds have been released since.

It’s mentioned on the A2A support forum. Oh well it is a Beta after all

Looks like with the Fenix you now can’t walk up the stairs.

Did some testing. I have a RX7900XTX and if I set DLSS inputs in the batch file and using FSR4 in optiscaler, I get no smearing, ghosting. Cristal clear image also in movement. I will stick to it I think. Plus a FPS boost by 10 FPS.

Two flights tonight. One night flight over Adelaide in the JF Arrow to check it’s working and the new lighting. One leg of a New Zealand bush trip to test a ‘normal’ activity for me.

Flight 1) Arrow works great again, very nice.
Adelaide lights looking good. We’re a very spread out city for the population so it makes for quite attractive night views. Looks great to me although I’m aware others have some issues with some of the finer details. The PG of the city centre is crisp but sadly still no lights on “tall” buildings. Landmarks still seem a little over bright but maybe not as bad?

Flight 2) Doing this in the base game Dakota. This was a lovely flight and made me forget I was testing. Everything looked and performed great and panning around or taking photos was very smooth, no lod pops or stutters. Only thing is I can’t trim this ■■■■ plane which I hear is a issue with GA planes sim-wide. Supposedly they should settle into stable level flight at any decent airspeed but in sim the trim needs to be babied to maintain steady altitude when hand flying. A bit annoying but not too bad.

Performance
Overall great, staying locked at my 40fps cap, but I’m using medium and small airports and there was basically no traffic on these flights, two things that can stress my rig or (with bizarre traffic) ruin the immersion.

Issues
Comms window still causes a stutter whenever opened.
Co pilot comms are spotty, sometimes she calls stuff in sometimes not, just as she feels like, it seems.
Piper Dakota efb config is busted, all 4 seats are overlaid so can’t be edited properly.

Rig
I9 11k, 3080, 16gb
Settings
High, DLSS Quality, fps cap 40 (or 38 with the current bug), dynamic target 30fps
TLOD 100-300 OLOD 140

Next flights will be Neofly missions in daytime to get some traffic happening and try bigger airports.

Overall
For a GA simmer and explorer I’m happy. Things are running nice, with a couple of bugs still to squash. Id like traffic and ATC to get some major love. They are both buggy and still kinda bad when actually working.

Would love to see some building out of the sim funtions now too. Improvements to career missions and a missions sandbox. Native bush trip support. Better and more comprehensive training that sort of thing.

Right direction Asobo, keep going.

Are you talking about the JustFlight Piper Arrows?

I just reinstalled mine and it’s totally unflyable. Looks like there is an invisible mad co pilot who’s taken over the controls and randomly puts me into a 60degree left then right turn, then pulls the plane up to vertical and then down vertically.

That’s the one, I flew the piston arrow this evening. I deleted and reinstalled them all first and had a nice flight. It was a gusty 22kts wind tonight but I made it down okay. I probably couldn’t if it was behaving as you describe.

I do find all the Pipers like to roll or pitch like crazy if the hit any kind of ground based turbulence and have stiff controls when bringing them back in line (which I kinda like).

Adelaide is flat tack so the Arrow was fine. The Dakota over the NZ hills bucked me around a bit, which I’m used to.

Well I’ve flown them often before the SU4 beta and they have never behaved like this. There was only a 3 kt Wind and they were violently veering left and right then full vertical and doing it without any input from me if I try to correct it they just fight me constantly. Check all my setting can’t see anything unusual.

I’m flying the Arrow right now and it seems peachy.

Weird, no idea what’s going on here, only plane I’ve got to work so far is the Carenado Dakota and that doesn’t seem to respond to my trim buttons like it used to. I’ve remapped them again and checked for conflicts but can’t get them to work.

How sorry? i get ghosting

i got the XTX too

I think there always needs to be clarity when discussing “FSR4” - are we talking frame generation, upscaling, or both? (the question is posed to both people here talking about FSR4, but also anyone talking about FSR3/4 in other posts)

VRAM issues are back with 1.6.7.0

Anyone else noticed? Since start of Beta4 and before the recent update I have never seen the GPU memory message. In fact Beta4 has showed about -20% less VRAM usuge (GPU-z). Now I have tried the latest update and it seems all back again. With the same graphics settings I was getting the GPU message spam. The update notes stated that there were optimizations on the terrain rendering engine. I didn’t notice any improvement in perfomance, but the VRAM issue is now back again, just like in SU3. Is there a new memory leak?

After opsiscaler files are copied into msfs24 root folder, run the .bat file. There are 3 configuration steps. The last step choose dlss input.

In msfs set dlss super resolution and in optiscaler fsr3x and fsr4.0.2.

Done! No ghosting, or smearing.

Upscaling. Framegen has nothing to do with better visuals or AA

I have noticed that too and had to reduce some settings in 1.6.7.0.

No, my point is people talking about “artifacting” or any other visual anomalies might be talking about the side effects of Frame Generation.

Same for me. It’s just su3 now. Vram and stutters. I was in love with the first build but we are back at 0 now.

How much VRAM do you have?

An observation regarding the Milky Way depiction in FS2024: leave it alone! It’s true that in America it isn’t visible most of the time to most Americans mostly because of light pollution. I have been fortunate enough to see it a couple of times on trips to the Rockies, but even then it wasn’t like the spectacular photos you see of it that have been made with time lapse photography, or the view that is available to those in the Southern hemisphere.

Those who have been lucky enough to see it at its brightest, wherever you may live or have traveled, have seen a beautiful sight almost no one gets to see.

So, let’s leave it alone in the sim as it is depicted. It gives us all a chance to observe it as if we lived somewhere where it would be visible to us if there were not so many obstacles preventing it from happening. I enjoy seeing it at night when flying and want to continue to do so. Please don’t change anything about it Asobo!

My two cents….
