Sim Update Beta 4 Discussion Thread

I fly only on VATSIM and have never used the default ATC or traffic. VATSIM is working flawlessly with the beta.

So I did a quick comparison with FSLTL at 2K, 4K and none. Just starting a flight at LAX and waiting a few minutes for the VRAM to settle. I honestly didn’t see much of a difference in VRAM. Where I did see a modest difference was in the MT. I’m not sure 2K vs 4K makes much of a difference regarding VRAM. The FPS was jumping around but also not much change between 2 & 4K

I think I’m just going to keep the 4K textures.

Oops, I appologize since technically these are not screenshots from SU4 but from SU3. I’ve been moving back and forth between the two so many times I lost track. In any event I don’t think the results on SU4 would be any different.

I hope next build fixes the CTDs I’m getting with the Iris PC21. It’s unflyable now.

Because sometimes (often for me) you just need to switch between the presets Ultra, High-end, Medium,

The interface could remain expanded and you could still do that – it’s the first line item regardless if it collapsed or expanded.

In other words, expanded or collapsed has no bearing on your ability to use it as you describe.

One of many UI design choices difficult to fathom. If it’s all a work in progress that’s fine, but show us some progress.

Per Microsoft, “No, the Xbox Series X is primarily designed to render games in 4K (2160p) and display them on a 4K TV, not render in 1440p and upscale to 4K. While the Xbox Series X can output at 1440p and downscale, its main goal is native 4K rendering for the highest visual fidelity. It achieves 4K output by rendering games at their target native resolution (often 4K, or sometimes lower with upscaling) and then scaling the image to fit your 4K display”

It’s not native 4k it’s an upscale that happens to output the 4k for image

Am myself an Xbox user who’s deep dive this subject multiple times as have a 120hz screen that runs an fps counter also tells me what’s being seen and generally upscale is happening

On my XBX it’s performing very well probably the best build in 2024

The traffic and ATC is still a mess though, often loitering everywhere and holding up the ATC for takeoff clearance and also using opposite runways to what I am being directed too

Some light bindings my yoke have also gone, almost every beta build has its own unique binding anomaly, whether it be lights, handbrake, autopilot or autothrottle

My understanding is that the xbox x uses a custom designed AMD RDNA 2 APU, similar to the RX 6000 series, and is capable of native 4K resolution at 120hz, assuming you have the hardware that supports it.

Perhaps you are referring to the XBox S whcih does require upscaling to get to 4K

That is correct, 2024 is native 4K so the Xbox renders it natively, no upscaling required.

I’d go even further.

I would much prefer that when you enter the settings menu, it remembers and opens the last page you were on, just as you left it (including expanding any settings you had open, and scrolling to the same point).

This would make life so much easier when you’re trying to fine-tune a particular setting.

I have a 4k120hz TV yes no game on Xbox natively does 120fps 4k screen also has a fps counter in it so I can see my frames

No game on Xbox runs at a native 4k the Xbox can not do it, it’s running a upscale

Those that have reported that the JF Arrows are fixed with the WASM fixes in this latest build missed that the GPS 100 is still non-op.

Loving the new night lighting. My only gripe now with night time is the absurdly visible taxiway (and runway) lighting.

So everything I can find says that 2024 does indeed run at native 4k and targets 30fps on the Xbox X. So, looks like I was wrong.

But that brings me to my next question
er, how? I guess the 30fps is a huge part of that, but still, seems like a minor miracle to me.

Great catch. I think I only ever use the dual 530 430 set up, so I didn’t think to test the older Garmin.

Dynamic TLOD and OLOD, reduced texture resolution, etc. The same things PC simmers tweak and fiddle with manually to achieve desired resolution and framerate targets, but done by the sim itself when compiled for and running on the XBox platform hardware.

Yet forza motorsport doesn’t run 4k30 in graphics mode it runs 1440p upscaled and sometimes even drops to a 1080p upscale same with call of duty

Those 2 games take less than flight sim and both of them don’t run at native 4k

May render out of the Xbox at 4k but it won’t be a native one

This is it! I installed AIG and I did not have sim freeze on vatsim anymore! Thank you very much mate.

Just a question I don’t see lights at all with AIG models on SU4, do you experience also the same issue ?
