Well I vote on what I think and how I feel, and based on my flights so far - which have gone without a hitch and looked (and sounded) far better than what I experienced at the same point in FS2020, it’s a keeper.
I expected lots of negativity about the sim and my post, but I couldn’t really care less - I vote for me, not for others - you are free to do and say as you like
I’ve been away for a few days, but the reaction to this post doesn’t surprise me. The fact is there are justifiable problems to be frustrated with this game. Name one “game of the year” that didn’t have issues. We all forget the problems with FS2020 launch.
When you focus on the negatives, that’s all you see. That’s a lesson that helped me stay married for 34 years. You forget to see all the positives. As a marketing executive for decades I learned that the people who enjoy a product usually don’t say anything about it, the only time a consumer will say something is when they are unhappy. So it’s hard to get a full picture of things when you are just reading forum complaints.
Using steam charts is not an accurate measurement either as there are other factors to consider such as aging computers that steam users aren’t willing to upgrade to meet the specs to run fs2024 and then there is the streaming requirements that people might not be able to meet.
If you don’t want to support it that’s your choice, but I will tell you this I haven’t found a team that is as supportive and listens to the community as much as this dev team does and no I am not Jorg!
At the moment Hull City are bottom of the championship, but Xavier Simons is our joint leading goal scorer on 2 whole goals in 17 matches. Now the team try hard and Xavier I’m sure puts his heart and soul into every game, he probably loves his mum as well, but I’m not going to vote him for the Ballon d’Or just because he is the top scorer for the team I support; that would be slightly disrespectful to the other fantastic players who are at the top of the game.
I guess what I’m trying to say in a light-hearted way, is that I admire your positivity but voting MSFS2024 for Game of the Year is slightly disrespectful to a large number of games out there that probably genuinely deserve that title.
I hope your vote counts for them, but you’ve got to admit a little polite ribbing for your post is probably warranted, but in jest and good nature of course
Haha, even if it’s impolite, my skin is thick and people are entitled to their opinions. I prefer to not have the world total agreement with me, otherwise I’d never know when I was wrong or need to reconsider the way I view something.
ebigg, I was very careful to not be impolite; as I said, I admire your positivity around the game and hope your vote counts, I was merely presenting an alternative view as to why voting MSFS2024 for Game of the Year might not be the obvious choice for a large number of game enthusiasts.
edit - And I agree with your sentiment about Jorg. Truly an example of customer engagement and I genuinely believe he wants the best for the franchise and the users
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a single thread that has brought so many people together in agreement - but hey, it’s the holiday season!
As for the original sentiment, everyone is entitled to their opinion. I found a thread here discussing how 2020 was being nominated for GOTY that received quite a few less negative responses. I don’t mean to open a discussion comparing the two - my point is that while 2024 has the potential down the road (maybe end of 2025) to be GOTY, I wouldn’t support it this year.
This game (no longer sim) wont be in any .major bugfree shape for a long tine. Pretty much every plane has bugs every day i see new bugs. Planes at airport bugs tons upon tons. I dont know what happened but it seems like someone highup said release no matter what for holiday sales. No way they didnt know
This game is as far off ‘Game of the Year’ as were Cyberpunk 2077 or No Man’s Sky at launch.
What craziness would it be to reward GOTY to MSFS 2024 for the absolute mess it is in at the moment and what sort of message would this send to the team and devs in general?
CD Projekt and Hello Games have now managed to turn things around with a lot of hard work, good communication (never ever Asobo’s strongest suit) and by listening to their community. As a result, both games are now in my opinion really good not to mention also that they are now highly rated. Both devs have my respect.
To get any sort of recognition for MSFS 2024 (let alone GOTY) Asobo now have to repeat what CD Projekt and Hello Games did.
Whether they are up to the task though and whether they are prepared to listen to their own community very much remains to be seen.
Now way, it was rushed for 2024 release, required at least 6 months more for prime time readiness.
MSFS 2020 was a breakthrough, 2024 so far is a rushed release with not revolutionary improvements.
I watch some Youtube stream vids and am baffled i see how great the sim can be. Other ones are a bit more messy, but overall my sim experience is so different then what i see at v1, captain canada, faviano, easyjetsimpilot etc. Mine is so bright, blurry, full of errors, slow fps… just no fun to play. And for me and my system it also seems that atm (well not literarly because it doesnt works atm) MSFS2020 is more fun, has a better framerate, better graphics, better experience, etc.
I really am thinking about filling that community folder again and play in 2020 because the overall experience of that sim is better atm
