Hole in 1 landing?

This should be a Weekly Challenge/Spotlight Event.

I thought I had it with the XCub but after landing at KIZA the prop was still spinning and using 1 gph of fuel even though ignition was off. Tried again with the Savage Cub and still had 5 M to go so I put it down on a road next to a place that might have some tools I can borrow. Used same conditions as original video, 10 Knt. NE wind gust to 12.

. I’m going to give it a few more tries tweaking out the speed for L/Dmax and try to pick up some thermals and lifts along the way. This would be a good wish list request for a landing challenge.

This is an interesting challenge. I tried this with my STOL 170B since I had never experimentally determined the best glide speed. Turns out 60 kts. worked out well.

With so much starting altitude, it seems a no-brainer to head towards KIZA. It doesn’t take long to get over lower terrain where things don’t seem so scary.

At this point, I have the field in sight, but at only 2,500 feet, I would have determined that I could not make the runway and would start to look for a place to set it down. From here, there are so many options.

For science, I pressed on to the airfield and while I did land safely with a touchdown on the apron, that would not have been wise in real life.
