Finally arrived!
It doesn’t carry the unnecessary weight like the Warthog does, not to mention the buttons feel awesome.
Also slightly more compact.
Now I just need to design and make a throttle stand for the Virpil!

Looks great.
I’ve found myself going back to my trusty old Thrustmaster HOTAS because I’m getting a little tired of my desk being taken over by my yoke.
I’m considering just sticking with HOTAS for now just for comfort and convenience, so I started looking at the higher quality one’s for a potential replacement of the T.16000M. (I would also have to get new pedals since I use the basic TM pedals for all my planes.)
The Virpil looks really nice, but I probably won’t be able to justify it in my own mind! Stick + Throttle + Pedals, I’m looking at a pretty big outlay of funds.
I’d love a Yoke, but that’ll come later when I build my own sim cockpit setup.
The stand for my stick I made out of necessity, and I will be doing the same for the throttle.
The amount of time one can spend on just a few flights makes peripherals like these seem really affordable really!
If you have a HOTAS setup, and replaced it, why would you get rid of your pedals? I’m still new to this whole sim thing but I would think each individual device had its own profile?
In the case of the basic TM pedals, it connects to the throttle via an RJ-11 connector, so you can’t just connect the pedals without the throttle.
Oh no way, I’ve always seen the stick you mentioned sold by itself or as a HOTAS setup. Thought the pedals were separate.
What do you use the pedals for, rudders?
I use the twist axis on my stick for that (not realistic I know).
I can only comment on the TMW as that’s what I’ve used since the release of the sim. I’m very pleased with it. No issues, easy stick swaps(I own 2), and I don’t have any issues with sim-compatibility. Great buy.
I purchased them mainly to have rudder and independent wheel braking control with my yoke. The yoke has trigger axis controls for things like rudder, and I didn’t like that at all. I didn’t want to have to have both hands on the yoke to control rudder.
I did use twist for rudder control before I had pedals and before I bought the yoke. It works, but as you mentioned, not super realistic.
I realize my “realism” statements are pretty hollow considering I’m now using my flight stick on all of my yoke planes
Spent some time programming my CM3 throttle and in just a few hours of fly time I can already say a few things between the two.
The Warthog
The Warthog being ‘taller’ lends itself to easy throttle manipulation. It just feels easier to push back and forth.
The base is really heavy which helps keep it planted, not to mistake that for ‘quality’ as I wasn’t very happy to see screws threading directly into plastic.
The lock between both throttles feels more secure than the CM3.
Looks really sleek, so it’s definitely got that cool factor.
Last but not least, all controls are programmed in the way they’re meant to be used which is great if you don’t like tweaking things and want more of a set it and forget it type ordeal.
The CM3
The software is truly amazing, as you have much more versatility when adapting the throttle to your play-style. I found myself adding controls I couldn’t add on the Warthog. I guess this isn’t a hard knock at the Warthog as they’re simply mimicking something specific to another aircraft.
Although the CM3 is shorter, you can better fine tune the friction much better (but not as accessible) as the Warthog. Wasn’t a fan for the large dial you had to spin 10+ times to finally feel a difference.
An axis dedicated for the flaps! Not sure why the Warthog couldn’t make this one change as I hated the way I programmed it versus this axis setup.
Have to say, I’m a beginner in this whole scene but it’s crazy just how much I can like a (quality) peripheral over another (quality) peripheral.
Hope that helps anyone that is new and wanting to get into this hobby.
Warthog is getting tossed into the closet I guess…maybe I can trade with someone for a Virpil stick
I just bought a Virpil kit:
Mongoose T50-CM3 Base (in stock)
Desk Mount Adapter for T50-CM3 (in stock)
SharKa50 Control Panel, for use as Collective/Throttle (backorder)
Constellation Alpha Prime-RH Grip (backorder)
Desk Mount V4-L (backorder)
Flightstick Extension - 200mm (backorder)
I have an Alpha Yoke and Bravo TQ mounted under the desk, with 6 inches between them. The desk mount for the flightstick has a QR mount, and is only 3.6" wide, so it will fit nicely in there.
I hope I don’t have to wait 6 months for everything to arrive.
And I’ll be eating Top Ramen for dinner the rest of the year…
