Yes it’s easy to use the trees as a reference but it affects everything, buildings. mountains and ground textures alike. Draw / LOD distance seems to be tied to tile size which changes with latitude.
i see your point, though the problem is, as so many times stated, that the issue becomes obvious in flat land areas, mountains can mask this so it seem “ok” non the less, from what this sim used to look like (at some point only with a mod) to what it looks now is a shame.
It’s the way that the trees suddenly pop in that really produce the degradation.
looks to me like this is another case where something has changed but it’s unclear…there is no consensus other than something is different. Trees seem not be drawn as they were before SU4. whether the trees are smaller or not is just part of the problem, Was the LOD distance reduced for xbox? maybe also part of the problem. Was the AI algorithm for placing trees changed? maybe.
This is one of the reasons why I record flights regularly - so changes to the sim visuals and performance numbers can be can be compared pre and post sim updates, GPU drivers and OS updates. I like it when my overall FPS numbers go up but not at the expense of the surface details or other qualities of appearance.
Tree draw distance has definitely been reduced - in some areas severely . the important questions are How? Why? and what can be done to get back the proper coverage..
Look at this terrible picture from MSFS with ultra settings, all sliders max. It looks like p3d or FSX. A blurry mess because of missing trees!
Do any of the XBOX trailers/screenshots show the same low draw distance? I’m hoping they’ll have fixed it by then.
It looks nothing like p3d or fsx. Dont be overdramatic.
That is a subjective matter for sure, but I’m not being overdramatic. I own p3d v4, p3d v5, xp 11, xp10 and fsx, and if you look at the textures just beyond the tree line, that looks like a blurry mess. Just like in p3d and fsx.
I agree once the trees cut off anything beyond them looks fsx-ish. Depends where you are though it’s worse in certain places. My initial post I talked about Anchorage looking awful beyond the trees but Florida and places further south don’t look that bad.
Same for me. You can clearly see the tree line. Inside that radius, you see nice high res graphics, textures, and trees. Outside of that radius, it looks like textures out of a game from the early-mid 2000s with no objects drawn at all.
Note that if you zoom your view as you’re flying, you see higher res textures, trees and objects materializing just at the edge of that radius.
Well, im sorry to hear about your issues, but the people I hang with every week (like 20-30 on the South America bushtrip, and the hundreds of people over at avsim) I get the impression that people can run MSFS pretty well with pretty medium hardware. Not sure why you would be struggling so much.
Yes, trees are important because unless you want to have supercrisp texture all the way to the horizon (and they DO require good hardware), then you need a good tree draw line. Most of the people I know used the treefix addon, and there was no issue. Now that mod is broken by hardcode from Asobo, and we hardly have any trees at all. What we are left with up north is just a blurry, smudged mess that is NOTHING like the pristine pictures of MSFS. Its like a picture of the sim after she went out and got drunk to high heaven, forgot to take her makeup off before bed, and woke up the dog licking her face while her boyfriend takes a kodak moment.
Wow. Never had that issue with trees before
This has been an issue for some time, and it will continue until X box version is released. I’m hoping then there will be further optimizations and they will take the handcuffs off us PC’ers.
Even with the graphics being downgraded compared to August, I’m still 100% with MSFS compared to X-plane that I flew for years. Just sayin’
Speculation, but are we seeing a slow preparation for the XBox release? Gradual reduction in graphics load so they can say “Look, it’s the same on PC and XBox”?
No. We’re not.
So, in light of the reactions to SU5, am I allowed to say “I told you so”?
Why? It looks great, particularly if you manually edit the usercfg file and push the LOD out further.
Whereas before that killed FPS it no longer does, and I can now see scenery (and trees) to the horizon.
Where is this file located to edit. I can’t take the re-rendering and scenery popping in constantly. And what line do you edit in the cfg to get this to stop?
not only tree draw distance worsened with SU 5,
all objects draw distance look terrible.
towns and cities are like being rebuilt as in ‘age of empires’ as you fly over… or turn your head to the sides.
