Sorry, this makes my head hurt.
Agree
As someone else posted above an RTX 4090 GPU could be (well … is) overkill for 1080p but not a 12700k CPU. No way.
Another good thing about AMD is that you don’t seem to need to change out your motherboard as often if you want to bump up the CPU.

The thing is you buy new stuff then maybe the desire to go to 1440 suddenly arises. I’d probably build for 1440 performance. A lot of newer GPU’s get a little goofy getting crunched down into 1080p. But with 2024 so close, perhaps a Gladiator ‘HOLD!’ meme is needed. I think streamlining the code holds the most promise for lots of middle-range choices.
And right now they’re goofing with 7800X3D pricing. Bundled 6 months ago it was way less expensive(I think M/C rang it up at $219 in the bundle with ram/mobo at off the shelf price for $500 total). Even they bounced it out of packages to a la carte now.
The 7800x3d is back in a deal at MicroCenter again. I dont like the motherboard it comes with. Ive had great experience with Gigabyte Aorus line. I think ill stick with my 9700k until 24 comes out and see whats out then. Great discussion, thank you all.
