2 More days to the Mt St Helens event! Got some crazy heart-pounding surprises planned for you. Don’t miss this
Yes, I thought so too, but sometimes at the end they say “the hell was I supposed to do with that tissue and a bit of string?”
Looking for the info on this again.
EDIT - Found the info on the "Events channel @ Discord.
How about a short instruction post on how to connect and join a group flight for those of us who lack experience at such things? Thanks!
Good point will add
quite a challenge, ski-chuting!
This thing is nuts. I like to zoom up to 10k or 12k feet, then float straight back down to the runway. Might turn some slow circles on the way back down to meet a good approach. Very comfortable to hand fly at cruise and on descent. Climb is just a terrifying blast of fuel and fury, but it’s over quickly!
Expect an update this week which will support drag & drop community liveries and packages!
It will also include much improved camera setups for both VR and standard displays. This update will accurately simulate the position of the pilot’s eyes for every Quickview angle. The effect is amazing…truly adds to the immersion! It will also include tuned instrument views and fixed cameras.
Looking forward to this one.
Other than that I’m hard at work preparing for the imminent Expedition Alaska 2021 event which will see us travel 5,500 miles over a period of 4 to 6 months from the US to Alaska and back again. So far we have 21 signups already for this epic journey.

Talking of Alaska, I got caught in the frontal system over the Aleutians the other day in VR. No amount of low flying could avoid the cloud and snow. Eventually had to land out when I could no longer see out of the cockpit. I guess the original Savage Cub doesn’t have the option for screen de-icing
Difficult to fly without HSI
Nice adventure though! Once the SDK allows me to…an HSI is on my wishlist. G3X too.
Glass cockpit?
Just a little bit…mostly steam still
Will buy it again (I mean Donate ) when you go glass!
SAVAGE GRRAVEL “BRING IT ON” v1.2.0 RELEASED

CHANGE LOG
- Support for Drag & Drop liveries! This means you may expect many more liveries coming from the talented community which now simply can be added to the Community folder like any other mod. This also means all liveries are now in alphabetical order.
- Tuned the default Quickview, Fixed and Instrument cameras for an immersive experience. Cameras will now accurately follow the eyes of the pilot based on where his head would be with a certain motion.
- Updated pilot head position for VR to accurately reflect where the pilot’s eyes would be.
IMPORTANT: The various camera updates mean I also highly recommend to drag your camera height (Options > General > Camera) slider back to the default 50 or close to it. The pilot’s height has been increased as the default Savage Cub had it set way too low. Enjoy the new experience!
You’ll find Grravel in your hangar all the way to the right near the default MSFS Savage Cub.
BE A SUPPORTER
This Savage Cub to Savage Grravel conversion mod is free and always will be, but if you enjoy it and feel you want to contribute towards this project it will always be appreciated.

CINEMATIC TRAILER
GG, nicely done.
Drag & Drop liveries - do you know which channels they might come through? There are numerous used by painters, eg, .to, Simouthouse, Avsim, the GG Discord?

Keep an eye on Flightsim.to as well as my Discord server. The two places where you’re likely to see any new liveries…as well as future livery packs…first.
FYI…quite a few liveries are already popping up over at Flightsim.to. Nice work guys!
Make sure though it is an updated livery and compatible with v1.2.0 for Grravel or Carbon. If the livery hangs your MSFS startup it’s for sure an old incompatible one.
Has to be added after January 5 for starters…verify before choosing one from this list:
Here’s an inspiring write-up from @roketJsquerl - Savage Carbon / Grravel test pilot - on the topic of the new VR camera setup in the latest versions of both aircraft.
A special thanks to @OneRobertOne for getting me started on this.
"To tell the truth, the new VR pilot eye position was vastly different than I had been using before the latest update. Originally I was sitting lower (the default Savage Cub position) and really couldn’t see over the panel until the nose was lowered during takeoff. To be honest, I wasn’t sure Gravel’s new eye position was accurate, but I left it as it was and muddled on to give it a chance and took off. The visibility was outstanding out the front over the cowling and I honestly had never seen such visibility before in VR, but still not sure of the accuracy. Then I remembered I had taken a pic from an online video of Kevin Quinn of the Flying Cowboys landing in the backcountry in a Carbon Cub.
Notice the pilots seating position and his visibility over the cowling. Now I know that GG’s eye position is correct and I have been incorrect all this time. This is a revelation in the visibility forward, plus you can move forward or backward as you like to be closer or farther away as you see fit, although you should be fairly close to the panel (within easy arms reach of the controls, the throttle and the controls for the panel). The upgrades just make it even more realistic in VR for me with the carbon fiber panel in the Savage Carbon and the chrome enhancements in the GRRAVEL.
I can’t express how realistic VR is compared to 2D. Just for background, I have a PPL in SEL and glider experience. I also had a friend who was a B737 co-pilot in the now defunct US Air company. He wrangled me some seat time in an A330 simulator at the Charlotte hub where I used to be in ATC. I had experience in Boeing a/c at the time in the old Flight Simulator, but none in Airbus a/c. No yoke, just a left sidestick, and the only time you touched the throttle was on takeoff and landing. I got 30 minutes in the sim (full motion hydraulic platform and wraparound visuals) before the next pilot was scheduled to arrive (they stay incredibly busy and on schedule). I can tell you now that FS2020 in VR beats the pants off that multi-million sim (with the BIG exception of the full motion hydraulic rig that really simulates well the forces experienced by the pilot). Our visuals are an order of magnitude better than theirs. Keep in mind that my experience in the A330 was years ago, so it may have changed since then.
If you have a chance to buy into VR, the experience is something that only flying IRL can outshine. There are a lot of headaches and problems to overcome, but the end result of looking out of the cockpit of the Savage Carbon and GRRAVEL at the scenery is just mind boggling! I’m no expert, but I have learned a few things that help on my system, and if I can help anyone attain a better experience in VR or regular 2D, please don’t hesitate to ask."
