I know there are British, German and a lot of other companies involved from lots of other countries. However this is also the case for other big firms. I called Airbus “French” because of their main assembly line and offices are located in Toulouse.
Other companies generally start in one place and expand into other countries, Airbus from inception was a multi-national and multi-company effort that became Airbus similar to Panavia and Eurofighter. There are many other aircraft far better to represent France’s contribution to aviation greats
Mooney is clearly a local legend from Kerrville, Texas.
And Mooney is not bancrupt and gone forever and history which was a threat for Cessna too (but Cessna changed ownership every few years randomly), but the new ownership is Jonny Pollack with some investors and pilots since September 2020! So Mooney will live on.
Sounds like a perfect match for how Microsoft Flight Simulator is intended to be used!
…sorry couldn’t resist.
Two trimotors sounds redundant and excessive, although it would be nice for a virtual Oshkosh AirVenture. You can see and tour both aircraft at that event.
How about something completely different? The sim could use more variety. A Bell rocketplane. Rutan Voyager. Goodyear airship. Just trying to think outside the box a little.
Lockheed Vega would make sense as the plane that Amelia Earhart flew across the Atlantic. DC-3 is in development elsewhere so why would MS chose it when the Vega would be unique.
Or Spruce Goose? Never really flew but legend nonetheless.
I’m gonna go with the Boeing 367-80
While I had also suggested a plane like the Boeing 707, it occurs to me that the title of the series is “Local LEGEND”, so, I’m thinking anything built after, say 1945 is probably out of the picture. I could be wrong on that.
For the US, I agree that something like the Lockheed Vega and Electra, and Beechcraft Model 18 would likely fit the bill though. Lockheed Vega especially. Then again, isn’t Wing 42 working on that? Think they’ll ever finish it? Lockheed 10E or 12A Electra would likely be an excellent choice; Vintage, historic, Airliner, extremely famous flights associated with it, a lot of good reasons. In fact, the Electra from the end of Casablanca is owned by Disney (maybe)(and they cut it in half!!! How could they?!?)(Probably not a ton of work to put it back togther though, if somebody chose to). Either way, lots of fame going on around the Lockheed Electra…
(Clarence Johnson of Skunk Works fame had a hand in the design in the Electra as well, as a Graduate Student at the University of Michigan, where the wind tunnel work was done in the initial design work).
A Beech Model 18 would be really nice. If you’ve ever had the opportunity to fly in one (or even hear one take off) you’ll know why those little foam earplugs were invented.
Please don’t forget the Wright Brothers flyer.
That one was also in FS9, and was extremely difficult to fly.
A legend for sure, but super limited practical use in Flight Simulator. So much so that I don’t think they should even spend the effort on it. How much use did anyone actually get out of it in FS2004? It’s one those planes you try twice, just to see if you can get it off the ground and keep it in the air, and that’s it.
Lear 23 - the first “business jet”
Too recent for the 30’s-50’s time period mentioned in post 4 above.
1941 Stinson L-1 Vigilant
An oddball observation military craft.
- capable of 31mph flight.
- rumored that it can fly backwards in a strong headwind.
- can stop really short.
- still some left in museum that are airworthiness.
I want my
I want my
I want my DC3
Hopefully the DC-3. Immense in early airliner work and an Icon world wide.
P-61 Black widow would be different
From a possibly alternate view with no stake in the game, leave the easy ones for the 3rd party devs. If MS/Asobo/whomever want to add an iconic aircraft, please use your resources to find something that would otherwise be overlooked in favor of an obvious choice, like the DC-3.
Note: I really miss helicopters.
The Kitty Hawk Flyer from MSFS2004 was a fun and completely different ride. MSFS2004 also included a DC-3 or similar, IIRC.
Experimental, cutting edge airships are also fun and different.
So here’s a question, do you want tested planes that stood the test of time before now or planes that are of newer design? The stock MSFS2020 planes have a lot of newer designs, which I don’t mind.
But don’t ask me what addon plane I’d like to see in MSFS because I still miss helicopters.
I suggest an upgrade package like previous versions had. I might pay for a package that adds substantial value content.
Or a Staggerwing Beech?
There’s one already in the works.
