Did you play the game since release?
that’s because they increased the draw range for lower LOD’s. So LOD 900 back then is probably equivalent to LOD400 now.
No, ignorance is bliss I guess? Point is, it looks really good to me. Watching the videos posting pre-SU5 weather, I can’t say it looks hugely different other than thunderstorms.
I totally did work. You could see buildings to the horizon if they were present in the scenery
Ha, yeah, I agree the videos don’t really do it justice, but it really was very obvious when SU5 came out and the clouds just looked so much worse.
Also, and this is not me having a go at you at all, but I never understand people posting on a post asking for something to be improved and then people saying, oh it looks fine to me. Surely everyone would like to see things improved?
If you are happy with the weather depiction now, then that is great and I am genuinely happy for you that you feel that way, but surely you would be even happier if they did improve it and made it look even better? There could be no reason why you wouldn’t want it to be improved surely. And so comments that say all is fine and looks good, just make it more unlikely that the developers will improve the sim, and surely this is a bad thing for all, including those are who are happy with whatever it is at the moment, as they too would get the improvement should it come?
Again, not a go at you personally at all, just an interesting observation.
Yes, but only if it doesn’t ruin performance for anyone. It would have to be an option for those who have the hardware to handle it.
I only mention my perception of current weather because these threads can leave the impression that people think the weather doesn’t look good, which imo is not true.
This is what the settings do in the game though?
Let’s say they improve the clouds and yes it costs a little bit of performance.
Someone was running on ULTRA, but now the performance hit on ULTRA is too much with the new clouds, so they put clouds on HIGH instead and this negates the performance loss they suffered. Now their clouds won’t be any worse because the clouds are a lot better in the sim and so the new HIGH looks as good or even better than the old ULTRA, so they have the same or better clouds with no performance loss.
Those who have the performance headroom to not have to lower their settings get better looking clouds.
Everyone is a winner.
Again, a genuine question, do you honestly think that these clouds for example look good and realistic?
ULTRA settings by the way.
Can’t say I’ve ever seen clouds like that. Agree those don’t look good.
That’s fine, so long as that doesn’t continue down the chain. Low users can’t go any lower.
I agree, there needs to be options for those with poor hardware.
But also the game is moving on, we have heard of a 10 year commitment. Hardware moves on a lot in 10 years, and many people will upgrade their hardware multiple times over the course of that period to keep up with latest technology.
Should those with top range systems be held back by those who want to play a game on low quality ancient (in IT terms) technology? Should, as time moves on and the sim is updated, the minimum specs be increased?
Not necessarily my view, but an important point for debate.
Do you use live weather or presets? How often do you use the sim?
Granted I don’t come across these clouds every time I fly, but I probably do about 6 -8 hours a day in the sim and see clouds like this far too regularly.
I use mostly live weather. Honestly never seen anything like that. That thin cloud cover in your first photo looks appalling. Almost like it’s set to low. And the second looks more like ash clouds - highly detailed but not natural looking.
I’m not even sure this is anything to do with cloud rendering per se, more like cloud computation (how the cloud is formed). If so, then what would be best is an additional slider called “Cloud Complexity” or something.
The Xbox Series S is not going to change though. It needs to run on older hardware. Newer hardware should not be held back though. I think you can achieve both.
Yes I agree with you here and your observations on the two screenshots.
As to your other points, I confess I don’t know what is causing this, but I think it needs investigation by the developers, and your suggestion may be something that they could look into.
Yeah, I would hope to think that this would be the case. I certainly hope that in 7 years time, when who knows how many times I have upgraded my hardware, the sim will be able to make use of that, and I don’t mean getting 200fps, I mean getting the same FPS as now, but with much higher graphical fidelity.
Weather? What weather? There is exactly one type of clouds there built and sticked together to create sometimes more sometimes less impressive structures of huge cumulus clouds… And sometimes it shakes the plane. there is no weather at all… anymore… I think there was some in the beginning, at least it was a good start. But a couple of noise Vatsim flyers stopped that quite successfully with the noisy call for metars and that’s when the weather was gone. Now what we have is a collection of before mentioned cumulus puffs and some met variables around airports. Maybe in the future… For now there are no great weather systems.
So much paranoia and assumptions in here. Been here and with the sim since day 1, and there have been endless thread after endless thread about visual downgrades, weather deterioration and blame on xbox for everything you care to think of. Lost count of the “just stating facts” when actually it is all conjecture and opinion.
Here’s my “fact” - sim is looking as good as it has ever looked for me, performing better than ever, as feature rich as it has ever been, and I’m enjoying it more than ever.
yep it looks good. It’s no weather anyway. It’s some clouds, sometimes it’s wet, sometimes windy. Sometimes ridiculouly weird. But it’s no weather
But I wonder as well… what has the XBox to do with it? As if the XBox couldn’t have weather?! It’s the system that lacks, not the platform.
Weird - it looks like weather to me.
This is good for you, but clearly if there are endless threads regarding downgrades, many people must feel that the these downgrades have, in fact, occurred.
