Did some bush flying with the PAC 750 in Oregon and Idaho along the Snake River. After leaving Lewiston, we landed at OR62 - Cache Creek, where we were able to stretch our legs and get a bite to eat at the small restaurant there. We then continued south to 048 - Salmon Bar, which is a very short dirt strip in which I tested out our reverser. Finally, we ended the day at )R8 - Dug Bar, which had a much more accessible strip. Conditions were overcast, but our first day heading out into Hell’s Canyon (Orbx), visiting these small, picturesque strips which gave us spectacular views of God’s country, we did pretty well.
On a side note, this is my first time doing anything substantial with SU2. Granted, bush flying is different than the airliners, but it was buttery smooth around an average of 120 FPS, most settings on ultra (Intel 14700F, Radeon 7800xt 20 GB, 64 GB RAM, 2 TB HD).
Did the Brisbane precision landing challenge. They drop you on a 10 mile final in IMC, the plane is in a stall, no ILS, no autopilot, and both engines are flamed out.The A320 has no livery. Is this all a bug or is this the objective?
Anyways, I light the engines, configure the plane for landing and saved all 140 passengers.
South America Kodiak tour, legs 33,34,35.
Continuing my current discovery of Brazilian POIs on my South America Kodiak tour, I made my way from Ilhéus at the east coast to the capital Brasília and finally to the near Goiâna.
I am realizing again how big this country really is, pondering over which areas to discover next.
San Sebastian Cathedral, Ilhéus
Juscelino Kubitschek Bridge , Brasília

Leg 6 of my round the world tour, from Lipot to Budapest, a lovely early evening VFR flight. Here I am over Tata, about half way along the route.
Testing SU3_beta, enjoying my beloved Cows DA40XLS in my go to area around LEPA (Palma de Mallorca) that presented itself in gorgeous foggy evening sun.

Today I experienced the flying equivalent of the old military saying that war is long periods of boredom punctuated by moments of sheer terror. In my case it was more like 95% enjoying beauty and 5% sheer terror. But lets begin with the beauty.
I decided to fly the C172 G1000 from Gaspe (CYGP) to Fredericton (CYFC) VFR at 2,500ft. It really was very pretty to start off with a clear weather preset as the area is very nice indeed. But after a while I thought it would be nice to try live weather. And it really wasn’t very nice at all: solid cloud cover from about 1,500ft up to about 4,000 ft. and more scattered/broken above that. So I decided to switch to IFR with an RNAV approach into runway 15 at Fredericton. Incidentally I also had about 25 knots of wind almost exactly on the nose. Ergo, the flight was a fair bit longer than initially anticipated.
But everything went very smoothly with selecting and entering the approach into the G1000 plus the cruise stage of the flight itself.
I thought the clouds were spectacular. Were they 100% accurate? Impossible to say. But the lower overcast looked fairly like what I saw during - dare I say 100’s of real life approaches? - I have experienced as a previously VERY frequent commercial passenger. And in general it looked quite plausible generally and really very pretty. Some images:
Note the top cloud casting shadows on the solid cover below.
But then about the terror part: I set the cruise at 6,000ft and the AP captured the the initial VPATH descent to the VOKAP IAF perfectly. The descent to the IAF at 4,000ft might have started out great, but a short distance before the IAF things suddenly went to heck in a handbasket. I have been lulled into a false sense of security by many, many MSFS instrument approaches, so I was pretty relaxed and casual. Just sort of looking at the rain on the windshield and just coasting along generally. At about 5,000ft I went into thick, solid cloud with zero visibility.
All this meant that, when the aircraft all of a sudden went into a VERY steep descent, I was caught completely unawares! Make that an actual dive, not just a descent. It took me some time to realise there was a problem, then some time to get my hands on the controls, then an unacceptably long time to get the instrument picture. I had to pull the throttle back quite drastically to keep out of the red, disconnect the AP and then use LOTS of up elevator to arrest the dive and start climbing back again. Bottom line was, once I disconnected the AP and recovered the aircraft to stable flight, I was already down to about 2,000ft. If there was high terrain, my inattention and slow reactions would have been the death of me for sure!
If you are looking for some excitement, I can highly recommend doing this kind of thing. I have not practiced recovering from unusual attitudes under full IMC in the sim at all, so the recovery took some quick mental reorientation and lots of focus. Always fun… NOT! Switching from being a sightseer in your own plane to all of a sudden hand flying in IMC in an awful attitude is really a rude awakening.
Anyhow: by the time I got back on the leg from VOKAP (4,000ft) to UDMUV (2,500ft), I had been able to stabilise things and re-engage the AP to continue the approach. Sweating and rather breathless but still…
After that, things went back to a normal. Normal that is other than the wind being at 25 knots up to a few hundred feet above ground with massive gusts. This required me to intervene with quite significant power setting adjustments every now and then to maintain speed.
For flying in the sim this was great fun and good experience. But I am VERY glad not to have had to do this in real life

Checked out the performance of SU3 v1.5.1.0 by flying the 787-10 from KLAX to KSFO. Only the second time I’ve flown this aircraft. I’m not programing a flight plan - I just get and go!
Here we are at KLAX, ready for pushback:

Looking good to land:
At this point I contacted ground to request taxi to the gate:
and was sent to the furthest gate from me, waaaay over the other side of the airport. 10 minutes later I reach G-4:
I’ve got a bunch of data collected with HwInfo64 for this flight that I now need to analyse…

Off to an unlisted military airport in Vilnius. Why are these even used for missions, they are never in the MSFS Flight Planner!
Leg 7 of my round the world tour, Budapest to Bucharest. This leg was in the King Air, one of my favourite of the default planes. Here I am at 20,000ft around the border between Hungary and Romania.
