Tried out landing the 747 on MSFS 2024. This plane seems pretty good for a default aircraft. How come no one talks about the Queen of the Skies?
Ah, the jet from This Island Earth.
I decided to do a vatsim flight, as there were so many stations online. I quickly made a flight plan from Budapest Liszt Ferenc (LHBP) to Berlin Brandenburg (EDDB), submitted in and loaded up the sim. By this sime departure had no stations online, and by the time I arrived there were no stations online there aswell.
I think I remember why I started using BeyondATC with such gusto when it launched. Nothing beats vatsim when it’s really on, but unfortunately today’s experience is the average vatsim experience: all the way unicom.

Continuing my tour of the Gulf of Mexico in the mighty Albatross, yesterday I flew from Cozumel north to Cancun, then northeast back to Dry Tortugas and anchored off Fort Jefferson.
Today, I continued from Dry Tortugas back to Key West, then Marathon Key, then north to the Gulf coast of the Florida peninsula heading north, dodging a few thundershowers along the way. I had plans to go as far as Destin this afternoon/evening but some real-world things arose. Instead I cut my trip short by landing off-shore near KTPA, Tampa International Airport. I will continue the journey eventually.
Short trip in the Saab 340B stayed on the ground at (KCLT) because I didn’t get avionics back so I taxied back to the gate because they didn’t come back
Another Performance flight in v1.5.7.0, this time from Heathrow (EGLL) to Nice/Cote d’Azur (LFMN) in the Boeing 747-400 LCF.
Performance during the flight was good (for my PC & settings, which are locked at 60 FPS):
The initial climb:
Crossing the channel at 13,000 ft:
Over the French countryside:
The Mediterranean coast, way off in the distance:
Over Parc National du Mercantour:
Approaching the airport at Nice:
On final:
Landing:
Taxi to terminal:
As you can see, the cruise section of the flight was consistently ~ 60 FPS, only dropping into the 50’s during landing & taxiing. Some slight stuttering occurred during taxiing (expected, as per the release notes), otherwise the 1 hour 40 minute flight was very smooth.
2020, Keeping the venerable sim vibrant, splurged on the HYPE H160. As I’ve spent over a year just doing yoke flying, I was concerned with getting back into the helo saddle again with minimal issues. The 160 is a pleasure. Plenty of helipads now to from FS, pay and free makers… Test flight on a familiar route, Aberdeen to Balmoral
Attempt number two succeeded, Charlotte (KCLT) to John Glenn Columbus international (KCMH) in the Saab 340B
Continued the World Tour, this time with a fairly short leg from Kilimanjaro to Nairobi in the Cessna Corvallis. The weather was quite cloudy, but even so we got some terrific views from about 8,000 feet and then again at FL170.
The last time I flew in VR Salzburg photogrammetry killed my fps outright so I decided to try lowering some settings and did a circuit around Salzburg:
The simulator was smooth, but the drop in quality was rather significant, so I might need to try to find a better spot for performance vs quality
