No taxi, plop her down on the runway start position and go. BUT…sometimes I do a cold start and taxi, not very often though. I just want to get off the ground and fly most times. I always find an empty gate to park at once Im down and off the runway. Cant leave the plane sitting in the way of other aircraft who need the runway to land. One must be courtious to other pilots and move out of the way.

I… may be spending too much time in the MV-22
Two to three hours of prep for every hour I stream The Roads Less Traveled tour. That work is usually done Sunday thru Tuesday.
On Wednesday night, it’s:
T-4:00, post stream announcement and details
T-1:00, check the third-party sim sites for any updates
T-0:30, review and make any last-minute changes to the content
T-0:20, turn the lights on, start and arrange all the secondary apps.
T-0:10, start the sim
T-0:05 music goes on, stream starts with countdown timer
T-0:04, I go grab a drink
T-0:01, headset on, seat back locked
T-0:00, partytime
For Friday night streams it depends on the content. If I’m doing sim lessons, it’s several hours of prep on Thursday and Friday. Otherwise it’s post the deets 4 hours prior, and start the above countdown from T-0:20
I rarely use the sim outside of streaming.
It’s simple. Just pop in your postcode / zip code and you’ll be given a red pin on the map. Next, what you’re going to want to do is right-click the red pin and you’ll see some coordinates . For the purpose of this guide we’ve used the happiest place on Earth, Disney World!
I second this.
Even more so when it comes to flying in VR! Expensive, but it’s an experience that comes very, very close to what you get when flying IRL…
- Watch Mentour Pilot videos on youtube
- Get all excited and charged up
- Switch PC on
- Think of where and what I’m going to fly
- Update Orbx/Contrail/simmarket etc
- Play Sniper Elite 5 instead
- Switch PC off
- Go back to watching more Mentour Pilot videos on youtube.
Very similar what I do. Life currently prevents me to have a long session, so I take vfr flights to sightsee sceneries all around the world. Sometimes light aircraft, some times heli (h145 from hype performsnce group)
I usually practice to some landings eith airliner in different weather conditions.
Pretty much that’s all currently
Nice topic!
I’m lucky and its something I dont take it for granted. I can work from anywhere in the world for 2 days/week, I’m single, no offspring and travel 8 months/year.
So when it comes to rituals I go wild since I have all the time I want. I’m a “serious casual” when it comes to airliner flying. Not into the “study level” stuff but I do follow real world routes from FlightAware and stick to all the alts and speeds I see in the flight record.
- Pick a route (personal rule - ideally a 1hr flight must not be more than 90 mins or I get bored)
- Load FlightAware
- Replicate the plan in LNM and save it
- Load the plan on the World Map in the game
- Pushback from gate and off I go!
9 hour MSFS gaming sessions are the norm with 16hrs being my record (not all at once of course, just many short hop flights)
Shout out to the all night gamers, you know who you are
I’ve been flying around the world following the continental coastlines in the TBM 930. Since I got Navigraph here is my process.
I’ll open Navigraph and select the destination from my last flight as my departure. Then I will select my next destination, usually I try to keep my light time under 2 hours. I use the autoroute feature on the Navigraph app, and select appropriate SID and STAR if available.
Then I open Simbrief and put in the same departure and destination airports I did in Navigraph. Sometimes the SimBrief routes don’t align with the Navigraph route I generated, so I will take the Navigraph route and put it into Simbrief (Navigraph generated routes are generally better) and generated the flight.
Launch FSLTL
Launch MSFS2020
Select departure airport and parking spot from my Navigraph route and the select Fly Now.
In sim starting Cold and Dark, power up Battery on the plane.
Do pre-flight instrument check. Check ATIS if available.
Open Simbrief interface in Sim. Add prescribed fuel load for my flight plan.
Enter flight plan into FMS as prescribed in Simbrief.
Get IFR clearance (I usually fly IFR routes)
Go through engine startup procedure.
Set Altitude and FLC speed
Check flight control surfaces are working.
Push back
Request Taxi
Taxi to assigned take-off runway
request take-off clearance
Take off and set trim accordingly, engaging YD
Climb to cruise altitude. Set AP
Enable VNAV.
sit back and enjoy the flight, maybe use external camera to look around if not using VR
Let VNAV handle descent phase, requesting Cruise altitude changes as needed (ATC doesn’t tell you to descend at times that match your VNAV flight plan if you input into the FMS manually)
Input ATC assigned approach into FMS.
Land.
Taxi to assigned parking
Complete shutdown procedures
Exit sim.
I have a modest cockpit with two monitors, located one above the other. In the upper one, I have MFS (full screen) and in the lower one, I have these programs:
Air Manager - with a 2D panel
Plan-G - to be used as a “moving map”
GPS from TDS GTN750
vPilot
SimShaker - to send personalized sounds to my vibrating seat
So… no one is just starting Flight Simulator 2020 in Steam and looks for some nice areas in Canada or Alaska to plan a 200-400nm long flight on that virtual globe?
Hmmm…
Flight planning, cockpit setup, taxi, take-off, climb, cruise, autopilot on, AI ATC assistance on, watch some scenery passing by, fall asleep, wake up to sound of crashing aircraft having run out of fuel, flown beyond destination and hit mountain, etc.
I do the same except I change up airlines. You must have a loyalty to Southwest.
I’ve traveled all over the world IRL so I sometimes do the fights I’ve done in the past.
