When will Asobo finally fix lighting inside cockpit?

Can’t get HDR pics to work - so this is taken with a cam, but it shows the theory
Filters ON:

Filters OFF (its actually darker than this, as the cam compensates):

In Nvidia filters, what you should play with is:
COLOR, BRIGHTNESS/CONTRAST and DETAILS.

My settings ()=night:
COLOR-
Tint 0 (1)
Intens 0 (0)
Temp 0 (0)
Vib -10 (0)

BRIG/CON-
Exp 10 (10)
Con -30 (15)
High 15 (-100)
Shad -10 (-100)
Gam 0 (0)

DETAILS-
Sharp 30 (40)
Clar 100 (30)
HDR 15 (-20)
Bloom 8 (0)

The big eye opener is the Details settings. Picture a lot crisper. Looks almost like MSFS is using a softening filter. Settings vary a lot! So experiment around. Seen totally different settings than what I use.
Im on a 3090 with Samsung G9 using HDR and Nvidia color settings (32bit, 10bpc, RGB).

Yep, “Detail” definitely unleashes the glory of the cockpit.

It makes me throw up when I see the difference between default and the filter.

Can’t believe it looks so bad on default once your eyes get adjusted to the filtered one. And it hasn’t even been a day since I added the filter.

Can’t believe this work around is not a headline.

Here is my comparison.

If you fly VR, OpenXR Toolkit now has 3 types of sunglasses.

Too bad that absolutely nothing can be done on Xbox. The lighting in the A320neo and other cockpits seems to be as if there is one intense source of light that results in “brutal” contrasts. Real life is that there’s indirect, straying light that immensly reduces the extreme contrasts and makes the difference between the extremes much smaller.

Have you tried raising your view and then angling it down so that it’s a little more focused at the dash? Where your view is directed determines how much light things get.

Mhhh, that would be new news to me. The lighting is normally determined by the light source(s) and the structure of the cockpit and does not change with the view and angle.

I would certainly like to see the cockpit interior reflecting the dynamic range of the human eye rather than a camera as it does now. We dont lose the ability to see indoors or in vehicles just because its bright outside, the same should apply to cockpit interiors.

It does with TrackIR. It very much depends on what you’re focused on. That’s why I posted above ( When will Asobo finally fix lighting inside cockpit? - #68 by PhantomStreak ) about eye adaption with two example photos. Simply changing where your view is focused changes the lighting on the cockpit.

Playing with these filters has really changed the sim for me. It fixes my dark cockpit issues but also I can really get the world looking way more realistic. Wish I would have done this a long time ago. Things that had the most impact for me is HDR, shadows, clarity and sharpening. Don’t go overboard on these but just tailer it to your tastes. Thanks a lot for this.
