Which are your "Top favourite Cities/Places" with the best Photogrammetry to fly in? MSFS2024 + MSFS2020 LIST

I totally agree with you! I’ve got all of Vincent Bazillio’s Scenery creations. I reckon all his stuff is pay ware quality for sure. Am always chuffed to bits when I see he’s released a new airport. Doesn’t matter where it is, you know its going to be good! His Airports blend in so nicely with the Photogrammetry around. Top quality stuff!

Impulse’s Townsville is next on my shopping list

Impulse have started work to update/improve their Townsville city pack. No timeline for release, but eventually something should happen.

It’s great as it is, when you bear in mind it’s inexpensive. I assume any update will result in a price increase, although I’d expect it to be free for existing owners.

This is now their second city pack that lacks a decent airport, though. We do have a Townsville by some obscure dev, but it’s old and looks pretty poor. Same story with Cairns and the Taimodels airport.

I actually bought both city packs in the hope that, one day, either Impulse, AUScene or Orbx would conjure up the corresponding airports. Flying low over major cities isn’t half as much fun when the end destination is a poor Asobo default airport!

I gave up and bought TAI YBCS. It’s OK if you get enough discount, but it’s not great.

I am slowly working through the suggestions in this topic.

This one really is good PG quality. Very crisp! Almost hand-modelled quality… almost.

Compared to this:

…which is a lovely city, but the quality is really below the best ones.

I wonder why there is such a difference? Surely the equipment used to take the images is the same or almost the same in all cases so I don’t know why it can’t all be on the better end of the results we see. Shame!

Most of the pg comes from local companies, so it’s very unlikely that the equipment is the same, and probably the source material varies in quality.

Also some styles of architecture look better in low res pg than others. Compare a city like Barcelona with its very regular block sized square buildings with cities that have much more complicated and varied buildings.

I must say that I have really enjoyed flying in all these new PG Cities that everyone has suggested.

Stardrifter2232 Saint Louis, MO is definitely now in my Top 10.

Baracus250’s suggestions of Malaga, Spain and Washington D.C were incredible So too were Brno, Czechia and Oslo, Norway. They’re now in my Top 10 (might change title to Top 50 :joy:)

RagingWombat839 Bilbao is amazing. Definitely a favourite now. Those surrounding hills and being so close to the ocean hits all the right spots for me. Its up there in my Top 5 now. Noticed that SimMarket has LEBB for 15 Euros, Think I’m going to have to buy it as it’s going to be a place I fly a lot in the future.

dubnewt2648 Nashville, TN is another of my favourite’s now. I’ve still got to check out Heidelberg, Germany and Monte Carlo and Nice France but I’ve been too busy flying in all these other brilliant places.

MrWoof9575 Naples, Italy and Munich, Germany are both amazing. Both places I’ll be flying in a lot!

JakTrax78 Australia and New Zealand both have too many good PG Cities to list hence this should probably be renamed Top 50  I really loved Shell Harbour South of Sydney but the PG area is small but clean and makes for a nice flight along the coast to Sydney.

If I discover any new ones not listed here I’ll be sure to post an update in the future. Happy flying everyone :small_airplane: :helicopter:

Edit. Just did a short flight from Heidelberg, Germany to Weinheim/Bergstrasse Airport Germany and WOW! This place is unbelievable. Looks like it’s a huge area that’s covered. Plenty to explore. So much detail! I’m lost for words!

I really like flying there. The CEGAM arrival into the 30 approach is one of my favourites.

The airport is small but the design is really cool.

Baracus250, thank you for Pamplona! Never would have found it.

Amazing detail and color

Yeah it is one of the best that is for sure! Small but perfect lol.

Try Cork (Ireland) in WU17 is awesome (and huge).

Also Cardiff + Newport (Wales) is decent.

And Brighton (south coast England) is nice. Make sure you go east and west of it, as it stretches for about 30 miles.

Oh and one from the same update as Pamplona is PORTO (Portugal). Not as sharp but the terrain and architecture is interesting.

@Baracus250 Cork is amazingly clear especially with my not so great internet connection (still no fibre in our area :disappointed_relieved:) Flew Brighton earlier and it’s alright but my internet lets it down. I’ve no doubt when I do get full Fibre it’ll be completely different. Cardiff and Newport are the same it struggles but Glasgow and Leeds are both amazing! Can’t understand how Glasgow is no problem on my PC given the size of it the same goes for Barcelona, Malaga and all of N.Z and Australia. MSFS2020 Photogrammetry is a fickle thing so are PC’s

@RagingWombat839 Been flying a lot in Bilbao. Managed to grab the airport in the Marketplace sales and now it’s made flying there even better. Low and slow is the only way to go!

With rolling cache on?
After a few fly overs, it should all be downloaded regardless of your net speed.

Have you ever tried using manual cache?

I’ve not been using rolling cache for over a year now. Not tried it on my new system. Might try it again seeing as you recommend it. Tried Manual cache a couple of years ago and that still had bugs so I might try that again. When I did use rolling cache I did suffer from stuttering, however that might not be the case now. I do have fast SSD drives so that could also help as my old PC had good old fashioned HDD. What size would you recommend I set the rolling cache to?

Yea give it a try! I’d say 16gb minimum for 1 city at a time. But I don’t know if it can affect the durability of your SSD long term. I used a RAM Drive for the RC to avoid that possibility but stopped using it as when it gets “full”, the stutters start and I don’t need it anyway with my net.

So I’m not REALLY recommending it, but I’d say it’s defo worth a try for your case. If you can, make it even bigger and see what happens. Maybe 100gb?

Or a RAM Disk if you have 64gb ram?

Never used manual cache so not sure about bugs, but that would at least solve the potential of excessive SSD writes.

I’ve read somewhere that SSD’s constant read write doesn’t affect the durability of the SSD so will research it a bit more. I’ve only got 32GB of RAM but I’m probably going to get 64GB before MSFS2024 is released in November. I’m just thinking that I could use my second SSD drive that MSFS2020 isn’t on instead and if that gets bugged then it’s no big loss. Thanks for the recommendations. Will report back on this very very soon. :+1:

@Baracus250 You sir are a legend! I’ve just done a Manual Cache of Brighton and about 20 miles each side of it. 35GB in size. Took a while to download but OMG wow. Works flawlessly! Everything loads instantly in insane detail. Absolutely superb! Will be caching a few more areas that my Internet struggles with. Going to need a bigger SSD :joy: Thanks once again :+1:

Oh great stuff!!! Might have to do that myself then for a few places!!!

Very happy it worked for you!!

I’ve managed to do the the whole of Leads Bradford in one go which was about 45GB. Been trying to do Glasgow and I’ve just figured out that if you try to do an area too big it comes up with an error “can not allocate” and you loose everything you’ve selected so you have to select it again, so currently doing smallish areas one by one. Seems to be trail and error. But all working so far. Flew in Leeds after I cached it and am still blown away by how much detail there is. Leeds Bradford is now in my Top 10  Working well so far fingers crossed. :crossed_fingers:
