Yes, we need to get those “what the heck is that plane?” messages
Are you also planning at some point to do AV2 with the wing differences? (and radome black, engine panel NMF and other slight changes)
I
Yes, sure! And we will try to give also some differences in flight model and performances, but this will require a very fine-tuning of the parameters of both.
Marco, our team aeronautical engineer, has tested the last version of the plane and the flight envelope is very near to that of the original plane, this is a great achievement!
This means that the flight model and engines are performing in a very accurate way, and that the simulator itself is very realistic in handling the phisics of the planes.
Flying this beast is really something different from anything else, and very challenging and exciting.
I could say that the development is over 90% now, but is difficult to say how long will it take to complete the remaining 10%.
This in order to have a fliable, stale and reliable plane, with all the most important parts working properly.
This will be a beta version in any case, because to complete every aspect of this plane could take years and I don’t want to keep it on the drawing table forever, but will be a release that will be able to give a true taste of the experience of flying such an extraordinary machine.
This looks like another day one purchase!
Just to give you some idea of the work we are doing currently, these are diagrams of the fuel system, as derived from the actual XB70 operating manual.
How prepared are you for the forum experts and “real” XB-70 pilots to immediately tell you “Well, the REAL plane doesn’t fly like that.”
Yeah… I am more than prepared for this! But the final judgment is given by the performance profiles reported in the documentation, and besides… there aren’t many ex Valkyrie pilots around…!
But if the experts will give useful indications they’ll be welcome.
I would be lying if I said that I was more excited about “flying” it than I am about “seeing it fly”. It is checking the external view from endless angles with endless lighting and scenery changes that will truly bring this to life for me. Flying it will be fun for sure, but I am just incredibly excited to see it fly in places that it never had the chance to fly for real.
This is music for my ears! Something like this ? (well, forget about the rivets around the door, I corrected them after seeing this picture, but it looks fine though)
Oh my gosh, you are going to put the darkstar contraption to retirement forever!
Amazing work Airmax514 and your team, will definitely be keeping an eye on this.
I don’t have words…wow!
If you make it payware and on the in-sim Marketplace I’d reckon there’d be some Xbox players who’d like to have this. Doesn’t seem like freeware is coming for them anytime soon. (I don’t know exactly what your plans were for price but food for thought)
I agree! Definitively better than the Darkstar!
It actually existed (even without Tom Cruise)
Well Tom Cruise exists and the XB-70 exists, we just got the wrong combination.
Looking at the pictures of the cockpit of the XB70 20001 on museum display, I realized that the spot lights on the side panels were… BLUE ?
I had an inspiration, and tried 5 blue light spots (created a custom blue light fx since this doesn’t exist in MSFS!), the result is surprising… what do you think ?
Not yet sure this is the real colour of the cockpit lighting, but I like it!
It looks fantastic and yes, the lights are blue in the prototype, very curious color selection!
Thanks Luis, and I can assure you that with the animations and sounds, and varying outside lighting it is something I never saw before! Really thrilling.
Still some little things to fix, but almost ready for some good flight test…
Ok. I legitimately just registered and made an account here so I could comment on this thread and extend my heartfelt gratitude and support for working to add the XB70 to MSFS. The quality of the work done thus far is stunning. Everything looks fantastic.
I just spent $35usd on the DC Designs Concorde and I would gladly pay the same amount for this. I play on Xbox so I hope that the author will consider adding this plane to the in-game marketplace so that us console players can experience and celebrate this stunning work
Cheers Airmax514, you are making dreams come true!
Hi Ejiro thanks for your encouraging words! We are in the most time consuming and slow phase of the process : finding bugs, improving textures, adding details, adding secondary functionalities, testing the flight model… it seems to have a plane almost ready but there are still many things to do.
There are 2 possible alternatives, one is to complete everything and put the plane on the marketplace ready to withstand the examination of all the most exigent simmers and reviewers… or to put it on a site, maybe as donationware, specifying that it is still under developement and of course all the contributors will have free access to all the updated versions and to the possible final payware version for free.
I think that this could be the most likely solution I will probably choose.
