Yet another Computer Spec Question - Will it work?

because it’s an 8 Core / 16 Thread CPU, it will always have lower multi threaded performance than CPU’s with 10, 12 or even 16 cores.

Nice thing is; that only matters for productivity tasks (like rendering, 3D modeling and video editing etc). There’s currently no game or sim that will utilize more than 8C/16T (see my link a couple posts up from the benchmarks Hardware unboxed ran).

People spending on a 10900K or 5900X/5950X for a pure gaming/simming setup are simply wasting money.

edit: my advise to OpticDragon9993 would be: nothing, since I don’t know his budget and the resolution he’s targeting to run at.

If he’s going to run at 1080P an/or has a low budget, then just get an upgraded GPU (8GB of VRAM), and keep running the current system.

If he’s going to be running at 4K and has a massive budget;
Any B550 motherboard, 5600X/5800X, 32GB of the fastest RAM you can get running (3600MHz minimum), M.2 NVME drives for storage, and a Radeon 6800XT or GTX3080 for a GPU.

It actually makes sense.

Edit: Just spotted that 5800X is 6 core, I thought is 8 core as well.

the 5600X is 6 cores / 12 threads
the 5800X is 8 cores / 16 threads

Overlooked the numbers! Thought you’ve benched 5800X :person_facepalming:t2:

thanks for this, i will definitely drop him a line

Hi there,
Busy dad, weekend type gamer. i’m on on a limited budget, but happy to play at 1080 resolution.

I currently play at low resolution and lucky to get over 20FPS, so anything up from here is a bonus.

Is the VRAM really that important? GPU’s are so hard to come by at the moment

You’re getting 20FPS at medium settings at 1080P I assume?

You’re correct that the current GPU market is terrible. I would suggest fiddling with your settings until you get a playable experience, and maybe keep saving up for a while and wait for the market to normalize (probably after crypto currencies take a dive again).
There should be some optimizations to the sim coming along with the XBox release (likely this summer). If after that you’re still not happy with the performance, you will probably have saved up a bit more, and will be able to get a more impactful upgrade at a reasonable price.

thats what i’m thinking. going for this for now and then hope to upgrade at a later date.

My other option is this, but it will cost me another £500:

- CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 4.4Ghz - Eight Core CPU ideal for gaming and so much more.
- Motherboard: Asus B450M-A Motherboard
- Graphics Card: Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 6GB GDDR6
1Tb M2 SSD
32gb ram
