Check your content manager. After the update, I downloaded 20+ GB of updates from the content manager and it said I had everything. I had the same issue with the Baron and ALL the DLC planes from the PD edition.
The following morning, I got a notification in game there was content to download in the content manager. It was the Premium and Deluxe packs. Once I downloaded that, it fixed my fuel valve issue in the Baron and C172. Still other issues with the C172, but at least the Baron is fine now.
As for the CJ4, I’ve been flying it all day. No issues here with AP other than my own stupids learning how to fly the plane and learning its systems (never flew it before),
I also had to map my devices in my registry for all USB devices to their proper addresses instead of allowing plug-and-play and the Logitech plugin try to do it for me.
I had to find the Device Instance (USB/VID_06A3/…) and manually map all my devices to their proper address, then went into regedit and changed EnhancedPowerManagement to 0x00000 (its default is 1).
I ran MSFS through a debugger, here is the problem why people are having problems all over the place with this update when it comes to mouse control:
Because this is Microsoft, of course in addition to Direct3D they’re using DIRECTINPUT 8 - not good practice in writing game engines unless you are going for a Microsoft-only release binary(aka anything compiled with the Windows 10 SDK which is backwards-compatible). “There’s no such thing as a backwards compatible SDK, what if a member function gets called from a class that cannot be instanced?” Just look it up, this SDK is the standard from Windows 8.1-present/Xbox. Good game engine programmers know to not use DI8 and to code their own input system for problems exactly like these.
This was my end, but the update caused all these problems. A complete reinstall and actual hardware mapping of the devices you use to fly rather than relying on the plugin is what fixed everything for me. AP is now working as it should(Granted, it’s a bit different this update).
Thank you so much for your detailed walk-through, TenPatrol. Much appreciated, but I did literally all of that, a fresh install was required(at least for me). You really go out of your way to help, thank you all again! Learning to love this community now.
No, I do not work for Microsoft, I work with them and specialize in Direct3D 11. Side hobby until I graduate Law School. But I’ve been writing game engines all my life and this one is wonderful, but this mandatory update ruined my entire day. Oh well, at least it’s fixed for me at the moment, sorry to everyone who has to deal with all these bugs that should have been rooted out long before even announcing an update let alone springing it on hundreds of thousands of people, with people getting offended that people are ■■■■■■ off they can’t use their simulation software/hardware.
If anyone needs any assistance in terms of actual back-bone hardware issues hit me up.
This is some interesting stuff. Would you care to expand on that, possibly with its implications for other sims also?
Maybe even post a tutorial outlining both “why” and “how”? (Plus benefits?)
I don’t get it so much with my Virpil kit and FS2020 but for example I believe that with the older Elite and IL-2 Cliffs of Dover that if your devices get re-plugged to different USB ports then their device ID changes and you lose all your mapping.
Is that what’s happening here and does your registry edit method fix that/stop it happening?
Not wanting to stop your discussion, but may I suggest opening a dedicated thread with a proper title in the peripherals category instead of using this thread?
It’ll help others participate and find the thread, this way the whole community benefits from your exchange
That was in fact my suggestion with this statement here.
“post a tutorial outlining both “why” and “how”? (Plus benefits?)”
But given that the technical solution outlined in that post is indeed directly related to the issues that were initially raised why not continue to discuss it in this thread if for no other reason than the sake of continuity and context?
Not a problem. Go to your bottom left hand screen, type Control Panel. Hit it at the top. Click “Hardware and Sound”. Then click “Devices and Printers” to see your instruments. Right click on them, go to properties, Hardware, then properties again, hit Details. You will see a list. Go to “Device Instance Path” and make note of the devices actual hardware DIP then open regedit and go under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Enum/USB/[ADDRESS OF DIP YOU FOUND EARLIER] and click the folder that has the latter extension:
This is just one way, learn about your hardware and have fun! Tricks like these make it so you can write a quick batch script to do this for you everytime you change ports, all your devices will ALWAYS work, plugin be ■■■■■■.
This single value isn’t the only fix, though, it’s just a common one.
[Edit: Not DeviceResetNoticationEnabled, EnhancedPowerMangementEnabled should be set to zero, my mouse hovered over the wrong registry value]
All - After trying to get the V5 to Download, kept getting loop to MS Store and Gaming Services, I tried to rest the store, nope. Then tried to uninstall store and reinstall it, something went wrong and lost store and could not get back. Sooooo, reset OS, nope did not reset/restore the store. Than I used my OEM Restore USB and reinstalled W10, and got the store. Then as of now and doing it most of day, getting MS updates installed, all my lost software, glad I have 4 different backups. I figure sometime tomorrow afternoon, I can try to do the 41 last count updates in the store, and hopefully, the game will show up. It will take about 3 days to get it all downloaded because of my sloooowoww internet connection. ASOBO, everything worked fine before V5, and this *&&^^%$$% game has caused me 3 - 5 days to restore my PC. Lost all FSX files too, so that is a reinstall, lost software on JS, so got to go through installing that again, and getting it configured. Glad I have those videos on my backup file, so I can watch them first and make sure it’s done correctly, because you can brick the JS if done wrong. So maybe by Monday, will try to download game again. If it don’t work, going to write a NICE LETTER TO MS AND DEMAND MY MONEY BACK.
Be careful now, you might have people yell at you for being angry at people you paid money to for a service that is broken. Customers are always wrong here, that mandatory update was for our own good, after all. Management may get upset that they forced software developers to rush an update by a specific timeframe and imposing it on hundreds of thousands of us, but we’re all the ones in the wrong. We’re the rude ones. I see.
Yes, downloading the whole game now. Most likely going to take couple days. If it brakes system this time, done here. Thanks to all who listened. Tom= Love your comment.
Update - It’s now downloading per the “Checking for Updates” screen. 353 items to get, going to for sure take a couple of days. It’s of note, MS Store knew I owned the game. And downloaded components necessary to get the base game open to the updates screen. I will report here what has happened at the end of all this. Prior to install I did install my VIRPIL base and grip, and it’s calibrated, so the game if it works should see it. My honeycomb TQ is also plugged in so it gets that installed as well. Later.
All - Base game is now on PC. Finished at 9:30AM EST USA on Sunday. Took almost 20 hours. It’s now doing the 25.xx GB’s of content manager stuff, so that is at least 2 more hours before I can use it. Assume some things, the V5 update is in these files, and if the patch was distributed it’s in there as well. Hope it was worth the trouble. Believe I started fixing this PC on Wed, so it’s been 5 days to get back to this point. I AM NOT GOING THROUGHT THIS AGAIN. If it breaks again, it’s staying OFF my PC, and it’s going in the trash can. Thanks to all who have followed this narrative.
It’s perhaps ironic that the initials of your Gamertag are MS, but after this valiant effort you must surely win their Most Loyal Customer 2021 award. You’ve definitely got my vote.
Thank you for the nice words. Actually, my GT was derived from my time in the United States Navy and my service. Never even considered the initials stood for MS. Although for a number of years I was partner with MS with PC company. Tested a number of their OS’s and was project lead at my job rolling out Windows 2000 WS, to 3000 customers. That was job for sure. I also hate the new distribution model, i.e., “rental software”, but everyone does it now. Vary rare to find software which does not have annual maintenance agreement to it. Found out some can be purchased with no annual renewal, which I what I do, I do not need to upgrade every year for some stuff. The other side is, technology changes so often, owning SW actually may cost more in long run, but that then depends on what SW it is. I hate the annual fee on Quicken, but cannot find a program, which is local to my PC and NOT out in cloud. I am NOT going to store my stuff on cloud, good way to be hacked and lose everything for sure.
Very good advice, and massive respect for your USN service - my eldest is in the British Army Parachute Regiment. I wouldn’t jump out of a plane unless my seat was on fire, I need to have a word with his mom - but that’s another story.
My strategy with software these days is to search MS Store for a freeware version of payware I’ve owned previously, and I’ve managed to replace them ALL so far. There are some excellent free (and Ad-free) apps on MS Store if you look carefully, it can save you hundreds per year.
