[1.4.11.0] SU2 Beta Survey - Performance (Xbox)

Please indicate your playability of the sim with the following statement - Xbox performance (frames per second) in this build is generally:
  • Great
  • Good
  • Acceptable
  • Poor
0 voters

If you’re encountering performance drops or visual quality issues on Xbox, the memory logging added in this build may contribute to that; however, we’d also appreciate the following details:

  1. What FPS are you seeing?
  2. Which airports show degraded performance or visuals?
  3. What aircraft were you using?

To report a bug, please use a sub-category of Sim Update 2.

Tonight’s flight:

CYLW - Kelowna to CZBB - Boundary Bay/Vancouver

Aircraft: BlackSquare B60T 2020

Flight plan: IFR
Cruise: FL240

Real weather, custom time: 8:36am

XBOX X, Honeycomb alpha yoke, beta throttle, XBOX controller, keyboard, mouse

Departure:
Ground textures much better than 1.4.10. Traffic wasn’t just pointy nosed default aircraft - followed Citation CJ4 during taxi, which as cool.

Duke picks up more FOD in the beta versions than the live version, requiring anti-ice to prevent engine damage when taxiing, no matter the airport.

ATC window still struggles to accept mouse clicks which causes delays in responses to ATC. The keyboard works around this but still not great. No ATC over-talk, which is an improvement.

EFB worked decent this time for the flight planning and uploaded the RNAV approach at CZBB without issue, instead of the ILS defaults that I have been experiencing (RNAV selected, ILS uploaded). There are only RNAV options at CZBB but I wouldn’t have been surprised if it would permit a precision approach if it couldn’t selected an ILS option. ATC gave descent instructions with plenty of time to get down but left me high at the transition so glideslope didn’t get captured and had to manually decrease altitude to intercept the gs.

LOD was great from ground to cruise without any weird and abrupt scenery elements bursting out of the ground into visibility. The LOD while on gs was much improved from 1.4.10. The long range LOD resolution was the best I’ve seen in any version of 2024. There was a noticeable frame rate decrease but it wasn’t worse than MSFS202. I’d say it was a fair trade and huge improvement.

Weather was intense with heavy rain. Oddly, heavy rain at -40 @FL240 and no icing? Not super realistic so something to consider for the next build?

Audio was more stable on this build and as for video, there were a couple of jitters on climb out and on approach, but only felt like single frames.

Fun flight! Interesting weather with 50kt headwinds, heavy cloud below and thing cirrus above during cruise. Heavy rain, crosswind landing - and maybe the best MSFS2024 flying experience so far, all things considered.

Flew to these areas and to Wellington

Lukla to paro as well

All flights went very well smooth and good lod performance even at 30k ft places I had been having issues with and heights in previous builds are now no longer an issue so far

This is good to hear. Looking forward to testing it later.

Interested to hear how others have gotten on as well but was a very happy experience today compared

By any chance did you try an airliner other than the 737? If you did, what are the ground textures like?

Yes I did Boeing 737 max Christchurch to Wellington took off flew to 30k ft and was gorgeous the whole way for me

Very pleasantly surprised I expected something completely different sadly no screenshots but good lod at distance and good ability to tell what’s coming up before lod kicks in felt at least double the draw distance and not so much blurry textures on distance even behind the plane I put autopilot on and enjoyed the scenery

Xbox sx with many 3d party add ons - connection fiber 300mb
Everything is better! From LOD to frames, the clouds, everything!
The truth is that I have not tested the demanding A320 because I liked so much what I experienced with testing other planes that became available from fs2020. It would be good at some point in the flight planning to give us the ideal cruise altitude off the route depending on the plane.
I believe this version is ready for bublic release

Ace. Can’t wait to have a go later!

Xbox Series X. 70mb internet connection

Live weather on
AI/live traffic off
Multiplayer on
Zinertec ground textures and Flyt runway light enhancement mods installed

A330-300RR
OJAI to HECA (both standard edition default)
LOD significantly better with a great many static aircraft on the apron, including helicopters for the first time. A bit stuttery on the ground but not too bad. The A330-300 always has been heavy on performance anyway. Ground textures on par with SU1 public build

A20N
EGPD (UK2000) to EGLL (inibuilds)
Performance good at Aberdeen in A20N - on par with current public build I’d say. Heathrow was (as expected) a slideshow

Overall impression. A definite step up from previous beta builds with better object LOD than SU1 public build

Ground textures on par with SU1? They’re still blurry?

For me, they are blurry on SU1. But fantastically better than previous SU2 betas

Hi mate. Is the efb working yet or do you still need to use a mouse. Cheers

When the ground textures get bad, I’ve discovered that a full restart of the sim clears it up again. It lasts an hour and a half or so before it gets blurry again.

Before reboot

After reboot

Still mouse that pop up still doing its thing but it’s been lodged now to the team from my bug report I put thru

I’m definitely seeing a huge improvement with LOD, draw distance and have to say ground texture resolution is great but clearly very RAM intensive. Don’t usually get issues with the sim crashing but from quitting a flight and loading into another it definitely doesn’t like it. I mean from a quick flight if a few minutes to another. I know it’s good practice to restart the sim after one flight to the next anyway but this does tend to demonstrate heavy RAM usage.
The tester will be in a couple hr flight with airliner from and to DLC airports I guess.
Oh and the PMDG does not work in its current state.

This is encouraging. Did you try it with an airliner?

From about what is been related above, I’ve been encouraged to go back to the Beta and try the test it. Some stutters and Black Screen in the SU1 are present on the it. fingers corssed for the test this new version of the beta.
