[1.4.7.0] SU2 Beta Survey - Performance (VR)

Please indicate your playability of the sim with the following statement - VR performance (frames per second) in this build is generally:
  • Great
  • Good
  • Acceptable
  • Poor
0 voters

To report a bug, please use a sub-category of Sim Update 2.

 Please provide additional information in the comment section below

:warning: Reminder:

Friendly reminder: performance in this beta build is expected to be reduced slightly because of enhanced telemetry data collection being enabled during public testing. Please keep this in mind when voting in this survey.

Memory Logging in the Sim Update 2 Beta

Memory logging will be enabled in the first Sim Update 2 Beta build, which will cause a small decrease to performance (in particular during menu transitions). The telemetry we receive from this memory logging will aid our investigations into stability improvements. This memory logging will be removed from the Sim Update 2 Beta before release, or as soon as we have enough data.

On Xbox console, you can help ensure we receive your data by following the below instructions:

  1. Navigate to Settings > System.
  2. Now select Console info.
  3. Check ‘Allow optional data collection’

Thanks,
MSFS Team

Interface VR bugs unfortunately still not fixed:

  • EFB not working in VR (when not natively implemented in aircraft)
  • Switches not clickable after returning from game pause menu (esc)
  • at least the toolbar seems to work in VR now

Pointless having a survey about performance when we’re warned that it may be low due to the logging, may as well pause the voting until the logging gets removed.
As right now the performance is dreadful (still).

One of the main issues I have found is the impact on performance when data needs to be loaded / streamed. When the data loading is finished, the experience gets a lot smoother.

So this is a big issue in areas with photogrammetry as data is almost constantly loading.

So far, I’ve found the performance to be a little better overall. I’m able to use TAA again now…

lots of terrain and building popping and morphing. I don’t think it has ever been that bad for me…4090/13900, Varjo Aero

I did notice that if you use Steam VR, setting the render resolution on it and then going into VR now correctly applies the render resolution, Tested it from 20% all the way up to 500%, so I can get extremely sharp visuals again.

However, I am running a RYZEN 7 7800X3D and a 4090

Windows was reporting that 14% of the CPU was tasked to the flight sim, and 18% of the GPU.

Changing VR graphics from low to ultra seemed to have zero effect on frame rates, it was below 40 when I turned on dev mode to check that.

Steam VR executable at same time was at 20% CPU and not even 1% of the GPU with the quest headset over USB connection was set to 120 hz

With sim in focus it was taking 22ms to render a frame, which is still too much for even 90 hz rendering, it needs to be closer to 11ms per frame

Is there something that is preventing it from using more CPU and GPU?

With 2020, I used to be able to adjust FPS using graphical options, and then crank the Steam VR render res up to make it nice and sharp, graphics were all CPU and then the VR rendering was only limited by the GPU. This does not seem to work with 2024, the FPS was same if I had it at 20% or 300%, only above that the FPS would chug, and the entire time, Windows is still reporting only using 20% of the GPU

Legit Final Fantasy 14 is using 42% of my CPU and 78% of my GPU and getting over 200 fps.

I have nothing on Ndvidia setting that would make MSFS limited in any way
