1.5.7.0 regression -- just looking at the G1000 can make the throttle not work

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

Description of the issue:
I fly with the gamepad (and use a mouse/keyboard combo) and the 1.5.7.0 beta makes it so that if you center your attention on the G1000 in the C172 G1000 version (intentionally or not), it will steal focus (or something like that) and the gamepad controls for throttle ( ‘A’ and ‘B’) and rudder (left and right trigger) will no longer control those functions. If you move your point of view then those buttons work again as they should. Note that, as I write this, it is not possible to change between ‘Legacy’ and ‘Lock’ mode so if that has anything to do with it, Ill find out tomorrow but I am sure this is recent changes eliminating the cursor mode on gamepad.

Did you experience this issue before you joined the Beta?
NO

[PC Only] Did you remove all your community mods/add-ons? If yes, are you still experiencing the issue?

FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

How often does this occur for you (Example: Just once, every time on sim load, intermittently)? The controls will stop working if you “look at” the G1000 – “look at” means to put the white dot cursor over it (whether or not the cursor can be seen)

REPRODUCTION STEPS

Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue:

  1. Get in the C172 G1000
  2. Start it, taxi and takeoff
  3. Look at the G1000 (center it on screen) and try to adjust rudder or throttle; look away from the G1000 and the controls work again

not fixed with 1.5.8.0

You mean even you are not in cursor mode but it seems auto turned on just because you look at the screen?

in 1.5.10.0 the rudder will work if you are looking at the G1000 but the throttle ‘Up’ and ‘Down’ buttons, “A” and ‘B’ respectively, still won’t work.

I don’t understand why the screen itself needs to steal focus because all of the soft keys are selectable with both controller and mouse. What is on the screen that needs adjusting?

anyway – partially fixed.

I read in another thread that the G1000 is technically a touch screen, because of the clickspot, where you can use your keyboard to enter an airport, instead of using the dials.

Well then, they don’t need the whole screen to steal focus but rather only the small clickspot. It worked before.

1.5.13.0 – still partially fixed. throttle controls stop working when looking at the G1000. Its not a showstopping bug but its annoying.

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

Description of the issue: When flying whilst in freelook then entering into instrument quick view I.E SHIFT+1 or SHIFT+2 keybaord inputs and mouse clicks are disabled. You can pan via mouse and have to look away from the panel then click mouse wheel for example to get the mouse pointer to appear again. This means you cant operate buttons on MFD unless you SHIFT+1 or SHIFT+2 with cursor on screen before hand. Neither can you use keyboard in particluar R + F for throttle control whilst looking at either screen. Everthing works normally when you look away from screen even slightly. Seems the screen are removing focus from some keyboard inputs and mouse clicks

FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

How often does this occur for you (Example: Just once, every time on sim load, intermittently)?

Every flight every time above method is done

REPRODUCTION STEPS

Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue:

  1. Load into plane either started or C&D

  2. Be in free look mode - no mouse pointer on screen

  3. Press SHIFT+1 or SHIFT+2

  4. Whist looking at PFD,MFD (G1000) or FMC(737) try using mouse wheel click to exit free look(show mouse pointer)

  5. Look away from MFD then repeat - mouse pointer will show

I have also confirmed that key board input R + F do not work in pilot view freelook if you have the either MFD in the centre of view. Makes looking at screen and using default throttle binding impossible

Just found that keyboard input R and F issue also occurs when looking at the EFB on its mount in pilot view.

So far this seems limited to throttle control only. And only the keyboard. Are keyborad bindings being changed ???

In the SU3 final (1.5.27.0) its still the case that the throttle stops working if your dot cursor is anywhere in the bounds of the G1000 PFD or MFD. The “rudder not working” part got fixed a while back.

What I find strange is that you can look at the screens in the Cirrus Vision jet which I think also contain WT screens (not sure which ones) and there the problem doesn’t exist that I can see so I don’t think its a matter of interaction with the screens being a requirement.

As a little temporary workaround, can you try assigning the control to ‘increase throttle (small)’ instead of ‘increase throttle’. I think the issue goes away (at least for me) with that mapping. But then, since MS/Asobo always do things only halfway and then doesn’t look back, there is no ‘drecrease throttle (small)’ so the issue remains for the decrease option. We can just hope for a fix some day (probably better to be very patient)

I have found that my issue is very similar to this topic, I do have to have the mouse over the PFD/MFD for this to occur. Freelook or cursor mode makes no diffrence. Controls regained once mouse cursor is moved off screen.

Also encountering this issue but on PC with XBox Controller. Does anyone know if this is gonna be fixed in the next Sim Update?

Btw, this issue is not limited to the G1000 but also other “touchscreen” instruments even from 3rd parties (e.g. PMS 750)

Edit: It seems as if this is not specifically related to using a controller, since even keyboard inputs related to throttle (increase, decrease, etc) are disabled as well.

I made a video example of my experience here
