[1.6.19.0] SU4 Beta Survey - Performance (Xbox)

I’ll need to do more testing but its just struck me that I’ve only experienced those 13 second pauses in the a320 in this build. Could just be a coincidence.

At this stage I’ve almost given to trying to figure out what settings to try and change for better performance. As others have said, performance changes on a daily basis with no rhyme or reason. Im back to thinking it’s something server-side as nothing I do guarantees improvement.

Devs, is there perhaps a set of settings or aircraft that we could all try at the same time? If we were all using the exact same setup and still getting vastly different results that would be interesting.

I got them in the A330 the other day and they were 17 seconds apart during descent and more like every 6 or so seconds on approach. You could see every time they happened coincided with the ground textures and objects (trees) on the approach path unloading and then reloading as tiles changed their LOD value

Managed to fly the Inibuilds a340 EIDW-EDDF this morning ( kind of finishing the CTD flight which I was flying KDEN-EDDF

Perfectly smooth from taxi out to landing and roll out. A really excellent flight. Tricky landing in gusty winds at EDDF.

The normal stutters started on taxi in - even with static aircraft on Low there was a big row of DC-10 aircraft on the ramp (bizarrely). Sticky Mouse syndrome once parked up.

But overall I’d mark this one as an excellent flight. Would be nice if this happened consistently though. And with so many third party aircraft broken in this build, it’s very difficult to come to a reasonable assessment of performance. It does still feel like it needs some more tuning for Xbox users.

Keeping the RC on 8 for next few flights. I also feel like going back to 2020 for some frustration free flying to be honest.

Put simply, it looks worse and performs worse.

Put even more simply I had another excellent flight this morning from JFK to Washington Dulles in the A350, I can’t leave this plane alone at the moment. Ultra smooth again. Hit another rain storm at Dulles. Runways are looking excellent in this patch. A really cool approach as I came through the clouds. At one point they looked like waves and I was surfing them. Smooth right up to parking at Dulles

The weather effects are definitely better I’ll give you that. If I do ever have a decent flight, it usually followed up by a poor one in terms of visuals and performance.

Tried a quick hop from Edinburgh to Manchester in the A320. Really bad. The pauses every 13 seconds were there as soon as I loaded in, you can time them to the dot. Between those 13 seconds the sim runs pretty smoothly, looking around and switching views is fine.

Traffic seems to be broken again. Aircraft stuck and doing u-turns on the runway etc.

The 13 second interval pauses didnt stop once I hit FL100 so I gave up. Ill try the same flight again later in a different aircraft. Its a shame the 737 is so broken as I got really good sim performance last time I tried it.

The past couple of flights though I have hit bad live weather, dark skies and rain. Bad visibility. Maybe I’m getting a decent flight as its not rendering any ground until the last few hundred feet.

Yes. Last week, Friday and Saturday where I live, there was a major storm with a lot of rain, clouds, and generally reduced visibility.
During those days, I flew several flights and noticed that, when the clouds allowed to see, a significant improvement in the LOD was visible.

As soon as the good weather returned, sunny and cloudless, the LOD went downhill, and we returned to terrible LOD, poor texture quality, and the usual stuttering.

All but one flight I’ve done in the A350 has ended with horrific freezing and stuttering on approach. But this probably comes down to that I’ve only used it on long flights as the one that was ok was probably only 3 hours or so

Come to think about it, I don’t think I’ve done over a 3 hour flight in the A350. I’ll have to try a long haul

It’s happened in all the inibuilds aircraft for me. Sometimes literally just as about to touch down giving a false hope illusion. More often at the start of finals or even before.

Scrap any other plans for SU4 and focus the entire team on approach / landing stutters. This is paramount. Everything else is secondary

Yes, I agree with the false hope thing. I get to 500ft and think wow this is great, and then the stutters and freezes start and continue all the way to the gate. It’s not even Inibuilds aircraft either, I’ve had the same problems even with the ATR.

I don’t recommend it unless you like stop motion landings

Gotta go out for the day tomorrow but I’ll start a flight in the A350 before I head out and see how things end when I get back 8 hours later :+1:

Totally agree - prioritise this over bringing us surprises and new content that we don’t really need (and normally is incomplete).

For me at least, an astonishing long haul flight with the Inibuilds A350-900 KTPA-EDDF

Very smooth from take off to touch down apart from the usual one or two stutters on push back and initial taxi and then on approach 4 stutters at less than edit -1000ft but before DH ( they did not develop into anything game breaking though), there was a smooth touchdown and roll out. Stutters on taxi in to stand and with the static aircraft setting on low, today I had a mass of Dash 8 turboprops cluttering up most of the stands… I was impressed at how far the A350 has come along since I first tried it. For the most part it was silky smooth and I didn’t get “sticky mouse syndrome” until taxi in.

A350 settings: -Aircraft fx were set to Performance Mode and instrument update rate set to 30fps

Near enough the exact same settings I use. Only I have 300 speed Internet. Haven’t had time for long haul today but looking forward to tomorrow as have one planned from Norway to Oman

I’ll try the 8GB RC too. I’d love to read some official advice on how to set up the few Xbox settings. After a year, I’m still experimenting.

Agree - Me too….will be interesting to see how you get on. Before you reduce though, last night I lost a flight due to an “unstable network” and “low bandwidth” issue that stopped the flight and I could not manage to resume it properly…

My question - could a lower RC setting make the sim more sensitive to bandwidth fluctuations and maybe cause timeout or low bandwidth messages when network conditions are unstable? Would I have had the issue with a 16 or 32 RC? Not sure but I’m starting to believe that perhaps the trade off space is rather more complicated than we’ve realised…

edit - I think it was a server problem that ended my flight - having problems with the sim this morning, long load times and stuttery behaviour… horrible. Really horrible… the lack of consistency in day to day, even hour to hour, performance is a major issue.
