My A330 flight from Athens to Chicago with simbrief import, EFB charts and ATC ended badly. Approach into 10L had constant unloading and reloading of scenery and objects (trees) that brought huge freezes every couple of seconds. All kinds of bad
Currently doing a flight in the A330, EDDS-EGLL. Sim is running fairly smoothly with good FPS, however, Iāve spotted a couple of things.
Iām using my headphones tonight, which use the Xboxs Dolby Atmos headphone out setting, which in turn enables MSFS 3D audio. Iāve been experiencing constant audio stutters from the word go. Tiny little micro stutters, made worse by looking around or interacting with anything. The stutters have calmed down a little at cruise but are still present. They were also present in the main menu and the loading screen when starting the sim.
Traffic again is much better, aircraft behaving at airports and the sky is definitely more populated. Three times on this flight though I have noticed ATC talking to traffic in front of me, which I can see (nameplates and strobes), only for it then to dissappear when I adjust the range on the Nav Display. As soon as I change the range from 80 down to 40 the aircraft vanish, both on screen and on the nav display. Iāll try to get a video if it happens again.
Update: The audio stutters largely stopped just after I posted this. Descent very smooth, although LOD seems to be reduced a fair bit compared to previous builds.
I wasnāt able to repeat the weird thing with traffic disappearing when I adjusted range, will keep an eye out for that happening again though.
Landing was interesting. I take back what I said about aircraft behaving at airports. One aircraft was holding at the RW, stuck in a loop requesting take-off permission and being told to line up and wait by ATC over and over again.
At about 500 feet I got the mother of all stutters, with pretty much all ground textures reloading and lights going out. Traffic went insane at this point. I had an A320 appear out of nowhere, strafing sideways towards me at about Mach 2 for starts. Ground traffic also seemed to lose track of where it was meant to be going.
Sadly I cant record video with this latest build. Whenever I try, the Xbox pops up with a screen saying something along the lines of āyou must be playing a game to do thatā.
Not a terrible flight, just a bit weird.
Headphones definitely cause some issues for me. I have really bad crackling whenever I use them and sometimes certain sounds cut out all together, such as the fans and air con onboard. I can also correlate the cracking with stutters. When I fly without headphones, it is usually better.
One thing I did notice with the ATC menu was that while on the ground, there wasnāt any text associated with each option other than to change frequency. It would just show as:
1.
2. (Change frequency)
3.
4. [ground services]
Anyone else noticed this?
Yes I noticed this was happening yesterday too. I know which button does what but still annoying. The ATC works a lot better now though, I donāt get the constant stutters every time the ATC speaks.
Yes, there is a bug report for it:
Iāve probably just flown the best flight I have ever flown in 24, maybe even 20. But, and thereās always a but, I departed from Hoedspruit in South Africa which is surrounded by bush so not demanding on the sim. Destination was to King Shaka, South Africa. Ultra ultra smooth, amazing LOD, especially of the endless clouds. Approach into Durban and i hit a storm. Came out of the clouds along the coastline and the LOD of the motorway in the storm, the cars coming onto the slip roads was mesmerising, real life looking. It actually gave me goose pimples. Runway came into visibility and was perfect. I wasnāt gonna wreck this flight, and with the poor visibility, I didnāt turn off the A350 AP until about 300 feet. Landed and smooth all the way to gate.
I know it wasnāt LA, Heathrow, and itās not testing the beta but Hoedspruit has a ample runway to take on the A350, so does king shaka to land one. Hopefully if this is the start of things to come then bring it on ![]()
Just done my longest career mode flight 9hrs in the B747 from Bangkok to Brisbane
Flawless. Apart from the aircraft specific bugs everything else was incredible
Stuttering, audio interruptions, texture downgrades that come and go.
Another āMehā¦ā patch.
I Wouldnāt say itās meh mate. What I flew earlier was of some help from the patch. One day at a time ![]()
If thereās no consistency, thereās no real improvement. It canāt be that one day everything seems to work better, and the next day everything is as bad as ever.
One flight is stutter-free, and the next, itās a stutter fest (same place). One day the textures are better, and the next (same place) everything is bad again.
There is definitely improvement
But they are struggling to identify where the issues/inconsistency come from
IMO it comes down to servers, Xbox connection and Xbox status. This sim ever since 2020 has never been able to work like all the other Xbox games work via the resume (quick play) function
Because of this casual users never hard quit the sim, and start a vanilla session. More often than not they also have COD or battlefield still running in the background whilst they load of MSFS, this is never going to work
In order to have MSFS work well, you need no other games running, no other apps running, no pending downloads, Xbox booted from scratch, proper healthy Internet connection and then you need Asobo servers to be running properly and on top of all this once MSFS loads donāt muck around in the world map zooming in and around too much or the EFB pre flight, this can kill performance of the next flight.
Hi guys. Been away from the beta for some weeks now as I just became so frustrated with it and since SU16 on 2020 has been released itās been absolutely brilliant for me plus I can fly the PMDG.
I did, however check in and decided to do a couple of flights on the latest beta on 2024 on Saturday just to see if there was any notable differences from my last time on the sim. Using the inibuilds a320 my first short flight was from Nice to Munich, both handcrafted airports. First thing I noticed was the performance seemed improved but still the occasional stutter and very occasionally a significant stutter that I think weāre all familiar with. A lot of the ground textures (not always) have not got any kind of crispness to them at cruising altitude and detail is drawn in and rendering quite late and sometimes not at all just a blur but in the distance it appears clearer sometimes. Itās strange.
Also Iāve noticed that rather than forests I was used to seeing, they have now been replaced with very sparsely populated trees. Perhaps a trade off for better performance along with blurry textures. Approach into Munich with really heavy clouds and rain was pretty amazing and was pleased that it was smooth all the way to touch down even in these weather conditions.
Second flight was quick flight from Glasgow to Bristol both DLC. Clearer weather, again great performance taxiing, take off and cruise but on approach from around 500ft had the dreaded stuttering and pausing which ruined the flight.
I really love the weather effects in 2024 but everything else in 2020 for me is still superior. Itās just SO much smoother and looks better! How can 2024 be the newer and supposedly superior sim when itās worse? I donāt get it. Frustrating. A year in now and Iām beginning to feel the developers have bitten off more than they can chew.
How is it worse?
What I did today should have caused this thing to crash or at least run bad but it didnāt.
I wanted to check some real life weather conditions against what the sim showed so I loaded in at an airport, took some pics, and then āEnded the Flightā and went somewhere else and did the same. On my fourth airport the weather was different but interesting so I decided to fly from there. I wasnāt sure where to go at first ā I was at a place called KINT which IRL had a middle altitude overcast and some low shreds and heavy rainā¦the sim just had giant clouds and rain⦠but I flew to KPVG near Norfolk and the flight was smooth for the most part ā a little stuttery at KINT but I think I didnāt give it enough time to load because I didnt know it was a PG area. landing went fine though at KPVG (on 10).
This version is impressive.
This beta is still just way too hit and miss for me. Whilst itās nice to have great performance for a day, the 3 days of bad performance that follow before repeating the cycle is still poor. The suggestion list for improvements to performance on these forums is huge but ultimately if the devs canāt get to the bottom of whatās causing it then itās not looking good.
My honest feedback would just be for the devs to do whatever they did in the first SU4 beta build that made performance so good, fix multiplayer name tags and push it out and hope for the best.
The stutters on landing and general poor performance at airports to name a few. As GlobalJavan said, one day of great performance doesnāt make up for the days of poor performance that follow. Thatās always been the problem with 24, itās inconsistency from one day to the next. Every new beta that comes out, Iām praying that the release notes say the stutters on approach have been fixed, but I end up disappointed every time. I agree that the first beta build was the best performing and have mentioned this several times. As we are nearing the 12 months since release date, Iām slowly losing faith in 24 to be honest.
Worst flight for a long time.
Who knows what caused it. There was a long load time - midway through second showing of launch trailer before I got into the Home Screen
HDR-10 Off
RC - reset to 1.0 GB!!
500Mb/s fibre
Live Weather On
Live traffic OFF
Multiplayer OFF
Graphics sliders Low ( fauna and character variety Off)
PG Off
PMDG B 777-200 ER MROC-EDDF
Sticky mouse syndrome on ramp, worst itās been for a while.
one or two small stutters on pushback and taxi out.
Smooth departure and initial climb out..
then several of the PMDG freezes - three during climb and initial cruise segment - of 10-20s length. Long freezes accompanied by sound similar to airbrake deployment - then full recovery as if nothing had happened.
Smooth initial descent then two of the freezes and two small stutters,
Final approach was stuttery and frustrating. One more smaller duration freeze as I acknowledged the final approach electronic checklist.
Stuttery landing, roll out and taxi in to stand. Horrible experience.
This was the most freezing Iāve had on a PMDG 777 in one flight and given my experiments with RC size - Iām trying 8 at the moment but my flight in the a340 went to CTD - I have to wonder whether third party aircraft devs are making use of RC to optimise their aircraft on Xbox? So there may be some complicated trade-offs to think about when setting RC and Iām not sure we know enough just now to make well informed choices?
After experimenting with various setting combinations ONs and OFFs, and not seeing major improvements, decided to go back to how I normally fly Streamed, A320 Ini, Weather ON, traffic OFF, ATC on.
13second pauses are absolutely annoying, so is the assistance popup.
Lets hope the next Beta has improvement.
I have aircraft and liveries installed but everything else streamed on a 70mb internet connection. But itās just so hit or miss and you donāt know what you are going to get on any given day. Thought Iād try a lower rolling cache yesterday but after loading in I just couldnāt bring myself go through setting up and investing time into a flight that may or may not end with frustration so I just turned the Xbox off
So Iām going back to 2020 for a bit to try to save my love for flying. It doesnāt help that weāre heading into winter in Europe which means lots of flying in the dark (I prefer live time). Or at least what should be dark but isnāt thanks to a extreme white haze no matter where you are and a horrible yellow glow in the cockpit
