[1.6.21.0] SU4 Beta Survey - Performance (Xbox)

Yesterday I flew melb to HK, then HK to Tokyo, then Tokyo to Honolulu

All in the default 747 or the bravo 787

Great fantastic LOD, some stutters are times but acceptable

The LOD is all time for me, first time to Hawaii in 2024 never seen it so spectacular, the terrain definition, the water masking and everything was a picture postcard. No scenery add ons required, unlike 2020

Sidenote I have traffic set to LOW, and haven’t seen any traffic for a few weeks in career mode or free flight, it’s empty….unsure if this is giving me the good performance or not, but I’m not sad either, I just want good performance I don’t need traffic, but would like it, if they can make it work

The ground scenery - whether PG or just standard terrain - is really not impressive in this build. Im not impressed by anything in this build. yesterday at Portland and then Eugene; today all over the Maryland PG region – it all just looked bad:

and the weather was wrong.

Photogrammetry trees are just the worst. But there’s very little they can do about that until they can get AI to remove them all, take a good guess at what’s underneath and put a modelled tree in their place

Tried the CJ4 from Manchester to Edinburgh last night, hoping it might perform better than airliners currently are. Nope. Absolutely awful performance from the moment I loaded in. Pauses, stutters, textures popping. I think this might be the worst build so far for me.

The sim is currently at the very least unenjoyable, bordering on unplayable.

Not sure it’s even worth listing my settings as they seem to have no effect on performance. They haven’t been changed in weeks.

Took from Cajamarca, Peru about an hour ago in the Beechcraft king air and on my way to Pucallpa, Peru. Ultra smooth from cold start to now cruising at 11000 feet. The scenery in that part of the world is stunning, especially climbing through over the mountains out of Cajamarca.

Great approach and landing into Captain David Abensur, Peru. I’m enjoying the king air, very smooth to handle on approach and final. That’s about 7 days on the run without any stutters . Even a few days ago flying the a350 from JFK into Washington and several other A350 flights. I expected no stutters with the king air being a prop and two flights in I was correct.

All the same settings

PG off

32gb cache

Everything low or off.

Unplug console for 30 seconds after a session.

ATC on, character voices turned up

No efb use.

The only thing I haven’t done in over a week is reset the cache.

I won’t go into detail about all the settings, since none of them alone seems to make or break performance. What I can say is that, for the first time, I’m able to fly airliners around airports with excellent performance and visuals — solid LOD, no re-rendering when panning the camera or switching to external view — even in dense areas like Miami.

Night approaches feel incredibly realistic with the new lighting. I still need to test a long-haul flight to see what happens after T/D, though. In previous builds, my main issue was textures and LOD disappearing during the landing phase, sometimes with stutters, which completely ruined the experience and made me stop playing for a while.

P.S. Please add the terrain radar to the Airbuses — and get rid of that annoying dome light in the MAX!

I’ve had great performance all weekend in the 747, Bravo 787 and PMDG 777. Incredible LOD, some minor stutters nothing game breaking like previous stutter fest.

They just need to polish up the grid lines in the oceans and clouds and fix the traffic stuff. Really dying to get stuck into heavys in career mode

But surely settings, low or high have made a difference. On pc, they’re constantly lowering, raising settings to test and get the best optimised performance for the time being. And I’m sure myself messing with settings has improved or reduced performance. 99 percent sure of it

I’d definitely be very interested in see in your settings - I believe it’s actually very useful- and could turn out to be important - to include them in beta test reports….

I’d like to not use the EFB too, but how do you file a flight plan without the EFB? Because you mentioned having ATC on.

I plan a flight on the online planner then type it into the planes computer. But I get where your coming from with the ATC as the efb has send to Atc and avionics. I hadn’t thought about that

Did a 2 hour flight to Keflavik in the Beechcraft king air and everything went smooth from taxi to parking at Keflavik. Perfect LOD.

So decided to up all my settings to medium and real time traffic. Came out of sim, went back in and spawned at LAX in the king air. Took off, flew around the area for a little while, a tiny little of popping up of scenery but nothing immersion killing. Then landed back at LAX to no stutters. Taxiied to parking with no problems. The surrounding planes weren’t popping in. I’ll have to have another go but in a airliner.

All settings now to medium and real time traffic.

PG off

No resetting of cache

Sti no efb use

So, the game is looking great with GA aircraft so far. Polishing the airliners (or at least a few of them) should really be a top priority before the PS5 launch. Do we actually need fully modeled cabins? I know it’s probably more complicated than that, but the difference in overall quality has been like night and day depending on the plane (big vs. small). Not settings, local storage, RC size, EFB, ATC, resetting the console or dancing to the sun. Maybe just bandwidth and server capacity.

I read all of the comments above, I’m still saddened that XBox still stutters so much. When are we going to get a sim on XBox that delivers what has been promised. I want to be able to use Live Weather and Live Traffic with Medium quantities. I enjoy traffic. I ran 2024 SU3 tonight with both the Cirrus SR22T and the Kodiak 100. I restarted MSFS each flight, I had alot of stutters. SU3 and SU4 stutter alot. I even had the final SU3 CTD with the Kodiak 100 tonight and I did not even get through a startup. I was not even at a major airport. I was at Coldfoot Alaska in the middle of nowhere.

I sometimes think the menu system and the servers might cause performance problems affecting an entire flight. I have noticed that almost everytime I pause to select my custom controller settings in the settings menu that it seems to cause more stutters. We cannot just avoid all of the menus. We have to go into the menus on XBox because settings always seems to default to Gamepad Transversal. So once I go into the menu to select my custom profile, the sim begins to stutter. I think the menus hog the resources and do not release them. Is this correct? XBox sure needs work. They should fix the menu system so you can use it without it adversely affecting the sim. XBox needs more performance fixes than any other platform.

XBox needs some major performance fixes. You should be able to use the Cirrus SR22T without performance issues in Live Weather and Live Traffic. We should be able to fly with Traffic and no stutters. So is it a server issue, a menu memory leak or resource problem, or is it LOD optimization, WASM, VRAM optimizing, something else or a combination of these things. I think the Dev Team needs to focus on performance for the next few updates until this sim runs at least as good as 2020 or even better. There is a long way to go on performance optimization on XBox. It is inconsistent. I will end this on a good note. ATC and EFB are working alot better than in SU2. But performance has always been XBox’s achillees heel. I think the Dev Team will be tweaking performance on XBox until SU7. XBox should get more attention than PS5 because we have been the ones to beta test the Sim for so long! Help XBox please! Thanks Devs for any help!

Totally agree with you - It definitely needs more COTS Xbox expertise to be deployed to help make some improvements . To me it often feels like there isn’t enough technical expertise on the workings of the Xbox - for example the official guidance on rolling cache is a very top level explanation - almost theoretical - and doesn’t even touch on the interaction with the reserved space on Xbox. And there still doesn’t seem to be much in the way of testing on real world Xboxes. It should be a quick win for the devs - as all Xboxes have the same architecture the situation could be improved for all users.
We know very well the limits of Xbox and we know we aren’t going to get the level of perfoemance with all the bells and whistles of the high end systems - but it should be a level of performance that allows us to complete flights without major stuttering - and lets us interact with the menu systems and the game EFB ….
It’s important because the game running on Xbox should be a showcase for MS/Asobo rather than an afterthought - if msfs2024 ends up becoming a PS5 Pro showcase instead then there are likely to be a lot of Xboxes being sold and swapped out in the new year….

Edit - BTW I think it’s just some Xbox specific optimisations that are needed… it’s not a major project to improve the sim for Xbox users - but it does need some will to make it happen…

Put it simply, the sim needs to work as advertised. Not by switching things off and reducing immersion or uninstalling add ons.

What Asobo should be doing is providing regular updates into each of the beta testers reporting communities (xbox, pc, those with specific peripherals) in a simple to understand language on what they are working on and that they have recognised our feedback.

If specific add ons are causing issues or underperforming then Asobo should be working with developers. I actually don’t understand (nor accept) the advice from Asobo team that third party add ons are a matter of different problem solving. Yes we get that those add ons can play a role in underperforming of the sim. But we often have contradictory observations so for us, the end users, it is actually hard to properly diagnose the issue unless it is obvious loss of functionality from one beta to the other. Anything to do with stutters and pauses we have absolutely no idea what it is and the deafening silence from Asobo is really bad.

We all fly this sim with add ons for reasons that don’t need further explanation (it’s common sense that base sim is just a game and sim with add ons is more then that and what people actually want to play)

The SIM should never have been released in the state it was, it’s as simple as that. Even if it was released this month in its current state, it would still not be acceptable. We are always kept in the dark about what is happening, instead we have to wait for a new beta update every week, hoping that the stuttering issues are finally fixed, but nothing ever comes. I’m starting to have my doubts now whether 24 will ever be as good as 2020 in terms of performance on Xbox, but I guess we will have to wait and see.

Xbox Series X. 32Gb rolling cache cleared after update. 70mb internet. All traffic options off. Live weather. Aircraft and liveries installed. A20N on a 3.5 hour flight between 2 default airports in Africa; Casablanca GMMN to Ouagadougou DFFD

Solid performance throughout with no stuttering or freezes and no CTD this time though I did set the arrival before my departure to play safe. But of course this was in low detail, low airport and city density Africa flying mostly across desert. The very first time I ever managed to get FS24 to load in almost a year ago was a C172 at a random airfield in Africa when nowhere else in the world worked but I’d quite like to be able to fly other places

So did a flight around Wales in the king air fir a couple of hours and landed in Caernarfon. As usual with the smaller planes and airports everything went perfect. Scenery over the Eryri national Park was superb.

Turned off console, turned back on and loaded up a flight on my tablet in the 747 from Heathrow to Manchester. A couple of minor stutters on runway at Heathrow then everything OK. I did notice there was no pop in of scenery whatsoever. I kept taking an outside view to see if I could catch some but never did. Coming into approach was brilliant as I flew over near my house at North Wales. Skyline of Liverpool was nice. Still no pop in of scenery. Descending further and into the turn at Manchester I was waiting for the stutters into landing but none came. Runway appeared fully formed and not blurry. In I went to a stutter free landing. A couple of stutters on taxiing then I parked up. Quite happy with the flight, especially the zero pop in of scenery and very decent LOD

Still all settings medium

Live traffic

ATC on

No efb use

No reset of cache

Oh and to add, all the planes parked up at Manchester were easy jet, sunexpress and jet2com. Very cool
