Oh dear. Oh dear. Several restarts later I’m in the cockpit on the runway ready to fly. But, the throttles are not working (reversers not working) and I cannot select ‘hardware settings’ in system to check what’s going on. Unable to fly. Joy. Using the TCA throttle, rudder and side stick (rather, not using the throttle, rudder and side stick). Update 3 was very good for me. What’s happened?
Update: managed to sort throttles. Flight from Edinburgh to Inverness. Impressed. Fewer stutters throughout. Graphics look sharper in external camera views (still some bluriness close to aircraft). This is good. Problems with MCDU regarding arrival and departure inputting (as others have already identified) as well as erroneous EFOB numbers. Having to recalibrate throttles at the start of each new flight, so something not saving. Still cannot select hardware settings in TCA Sidestick X CoPilot in controls.
Update 2: can download the new A320n update (5.27.1), but XBox X doesn’t seem able to install the update (whatever the update is). Click ‘install’ and nothing happens. Frustrating.
First flight on the new build. A321N from Budapest to Birmingham. Both third party airports. Taxiing and departing out of Budapest was buttery smooth, as was the cruise phase, but the approach to Birmingham was very stuttery and nearly destroyed my landing gear when landing, as I got a freeze just before touchdown. Once I had slowed down enough to turn off the taxiway, it was smooth again. The first beta build was much better performance wise than this one. I did a flight on it earlier and both approach and landing were pretty much stutter free.
Loaded in at Narita RJAA (Drzewiecki Design) in the A20N, set up, taxied and took off heading for Osaka but I’m tired and need to get to bed so won’t get to do the landing but performance was definitely better in the previous build. Takeoff roll was fine but was really quite stuttery taxiing at an airport that is normally flawless
I fly with the Series S. I took part in the beta because, for example, I could never fly in Europe or America with the Series S with SU3. Until Beta 1.6.3.0
I always looked for places like Africa, Asia, or similar locations to fly around where I could complete a flight smoothly. SU3 hasn’t changed that.
And now with Beta (1.6.3.0) yesterday I was surprised because it is possible for me to fly in Europe again.
Unbelievable. I flew from EDDL to EDDM. Parked at the gate in EDDL Cold&Dark, spent an hour preparing the aircraft, taxied to the runway, took off, and despite bad weather with lots of clouds, made a smooth landing in Munich. I was stunned.
The reason I mention that I spent an hour preparing the plane at the gate is that the longer I stay on the ground and enter lots of inputs into the MCDU and so on, the more the sim runs out of Power when I finally get to the runway and want to take off. That was the case with SU3.
Now, with the new build (1.6.5.0), I wanted to fly from EDDM to LSZH, and when I tried to enter the flight plan in the MCDU, everything froze. This happened to me twice. It’s still as smooth as (1.6.3.0), but the systems freeze.
All I can say is that I never want go back to SU3. But hopefully everything will get better and not worse.
This freezing of the systems did not happen with (1.6.3.0).
It’s very clear that the Series S is capable of delivering a smooth gaming experience, even in areas that place heavy demands on the system, such as weather and photogrammetry. It has to do with optimization.
You can see this very clearly if you have SU3 and then install Beta (1.6.3.0).
But I’m not satisfied with (1.6.5.0). It’s useless when the systems freeze.
Edit
Only with IniBuilds Aircraft. With 737 Max other issues, but never the systems freeze.
Just done a flight from a third party Palma de Mallorca (can’t remember the developer) to Taimodels Manchester in the A332.
A couple of observations:
performance still seems a lot better than SU3, although I also thought it was perhaps not as smooth as the first SU4 build. There remains issues with approach and landing in airliners. Ground textures popping in and out shortly before touchdown resulting in blur and 2 second stutters (although much improved on SU3) remain an issue on approach / landing.
there seems to be an issue with sound. Switches buttons and dials have become intermittently silent. There is frequent sound crackling and disruption. Sometimes the engine, APU or fan sounds cut out altogether and I have to go to the Xbox dashboard and back on to the sim, resuming the flight to resolve it.
the default inibuilds aircraft FMC no longer allows you to enter a departure SID unless you firstly enter the arrival STAR.
Overall, I’m very impressed with SU4 so far and I know bugs are to be expected with any beta. I’m hoping that the performance issues which are predominantly present on approach and landing can be completely resolved with SU4. I’m also hoping that the night lighting and sepia mask get addressed in SU4 as it really does not look natural at the moment.
One thing I have observed in this build, is that the runway textures go blurry again when taking off and then go back to normal several times on takeoff roll. This is when the freezes occur. This never happened on the first beta build, the runway textures stayed sharp and so no stutters or freezes. The same happens on landing too. Once the textures stay loaded, the experience is smooth. Also when approaching a runway at night, the city lights go off before loading back in again a few seconds later, but again there are freezes when this happens. The first build was excellent by the way, can we have that back please?
I ended up allowing an autoland into Osaka (default) with the camera rolling so I could watch it back and it was ok. But 50 minute flight into a relatively small default airport so not the most demanding test
There does seem to be (and always has been, even in 2020) a whole lot of textures (and lights at night) loading in fine but then unloading before reloading again. All of this means that the sim is having to work much harder than it really should have to and I can’t help but feel this is a fundamental issue that needs resolved
Cockpit still wants to trap me and kill me (white dot “curse”) after almost one year As for performance 20% gain not more, the bigger the AC the worse it gets. Even King seems too heavy…
For no apparent reason whatsoever, all of my control settings have reverted to default. This has never happened before on any of the betas - I set everything the way I wanted it back in November last year and haven’t had to touch it since. What an unbelievable pain. Will have to hang up the gloves for a while until I can be bothered to troll through every again.
Just completed another flight on the new build. A321N from Pyreegue EGBB to Inibuilds LEIB. Performance at Birmingham was excellent as was the rest of the flight up until the 20ft callout at Ibiza. The freezes and stutters started and continues until I reached the gate. Once again, the runway textures were constantly loading in and out when the stutters and freezes occured.
I’ve given up for tonight - no longer can I tolerate the need to recalibrate the throttles for every new flight. Every flight. Hardware settings inaccessible. Settings not saving.
No end of problems with this beta build. After having all of my control settings randomly deleted earlier today, I did a full opt out, uninstall, reinstall and opt back in.
I spent hours going through and getting all my control settings back to how they were, but it is not possible to edit the hardware settings and amend sensitivity. When I click on hardware settings - nothing happens. It seems to be broken and won’t take me through to the sensitivity options.
Default A321 is broken. It is not recognising me releasing the parking brake or applying throttle, lowering flaps or just about doing anything once I’ve pushed back and the engines are on. Completely unusable.
Never had issues like this with any beta build on either sim and because I quite literally am not able to fly, I have no option but to opt out. Hugely disappointing after how good the first SU4 build seemed to be. Fixes needed ASAP
EDIT: I have since realised that the default binding for toggle active pause on the Xbox controller is the same binding I use for something else. So when my aircraft was not responding to parking brake, flaps, throttle etc - it was because I was in active pause. The joys of having all your control settings reset
It took me (no joke) 1.5 hrs to set up a flight after several restarts, calibration and re calibration of Thrustmaster both in the controller settings and EFB and at one point my profile disappeared.
Once I got it working, I took a flight from LKPR to LSZH.
Both 3rd party airports.
LKPR was flawless 10/10 by far the best experience taxing and taking off on any airport in fs2024
flight was 10/10
LSZH the closer I was getting to the touchdown the worse stutters became and visuals were constantly getting blurred. Each time this happened it was increasing thrust making it hard to control the landing. In 1.6.3.0 LSZH performance was 9.5/10 which was the highest score (for me) since the release of FS2024.
Definitely something messed up with TCA peripheral settings.
A320N Thrustmaster TCA Downloaded and updated content
LSZH - LFML
both 3rd party add ons
LSZH 9.5/10 just a couple of short pauses
LFML 6/10 on approach but 10/10 once landed and taxi to gate. Gates not working known issue in this beta
This proves a point that something goes wrong in the gameplay towards the end of the flight near the destination on final approach graphics goes mad.
In one of the final versions of SU3 beta maybe 20, 21 not long before release, I was at this same spot and could see the trees on that hill on the right
–Jetways do not work and are puzzle pieced/floating around missing sections
–Braking does not work on aircraft upon landing
Performance is noticeably better with big airliners at big airports but stutters are still present as large ground textures and weather remain blurred and the LOD/texture quality remains largely blurred as has been documented for some time now. See pics below.
–AI Traffic (LIVE) while behaving somewhat better, remains unreliable. The pic below shows how the morning rush at KRDU performs with one runway in service. The two aircraft on the runway just continue to tango.
