1.8.8 - Fuel goes to zero in all aircraft

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

Description of the issue: When you load fuel in any aircraft, after 30 seconds or so it returns to zero. All aircraft, Asobo and third party. Tried the 172 G1000, Fenix A320, SR22T, all the same result. I’ve checked all my keybinds and settings. I’ve never seen this before. Happened on the first flight in SU6 beta, tested other aircraft, happens in all aircraft.

FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

How often does this occur for you (Example: Just once, every time on sim load, intermittently)? Repeatedly. Doesn’t stop.

REPRODUCTION STEPS

Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue:

  1. Load flight.

  2. Load fuel.

  3. Wait.

[PC Only] What GPU (Graphics Card) do you use? RTX 4090.

[PC Only] What other relevant PC specs can you share? 12700K, 4090, 64 GB RAM.

MEDIA

Please add a screenshot or video of the issue occurring.

Cannot replicate.
If any addons (Marketplace/community), disabled them and test again.

Went back to 5.1 Public, the issue is gone. Tested it with native and third party aircraft, no third party addons of any kind (scenery, utilities, etc.). Edit: Just read some threads in the dev forums of this happening going to initial launch. So this is not new, although it’s new to me.

In the initial launch of SU6 beta or also happens in the Live version ?
Could you provide the links of the reports in the dev forums ?

Sure, here you are:

This one is similar but not the exact problem I’m seeing:

https://devsupport.flightsimulator.com/t/aircraft-start-with-almost-no-fuel-on-mfs24/11517

It happened to me in the 172 during my first flight in 1.8.8, I figured it was a plane bug. Loaded in later for an A320 flight, and once you do the loading via the EFB, fuel drops to 0 within 30 seconds. Then I tested the SR22T, stock Vision Jet and another plane (forget which), same issue. Dropped out of the beta, SU5.1 had no issues. Rejoined SU6, waiting for it to download now to check again. Completely stock sim setup, didn’t even update the DLSS file.

Edit: re-joined 1.8.8, same issue. Bummer! Really wanted to fly in this one, but I can’t. Literally.

Thank you for the links.
I would say the 1st one is different: it does not say that aircraft fuel is set to zero, just that if you entered custom values for payload/fuel they are resetting to the default ones.
The 2nd one is initially related to 3rd party helicopters and seems to have been fixed.

Anyway could you provide detailed steps ?, like if you started Cold & Dark or on the runway ?
If C&D, are you starting outside of the aircraft or inside (using the new SU6 functionality, starting without walkaround) ?
Also, at which moment are you filling up your tank ? when you are on the world map or the aircraft configuration ?, or once you’ve spawned, using the EFB.
Which variant of the C172 ?
Are you starting the aircraft using CTRL+E or following the checklist ?
Detailed steps are important to try to replicate the exact same way. If it was a common scenario, I guess the issue would already have been reported.

Sure, I started cold and dark outside the aircraft. Ctrl+C to enter the plane, in the 172 and other default aircraft I was loading fuel via the EFB. When you initially load in, tanks are empty, so I power up the avionics, fuel the aircraft via the EFB (“Load aircraft”), sit, wait, watch… zero fuel. It just disappears, gauges straight to zero. And it’s not a gauge issue either as I’ve done a test flight after loading fuel and you get to fuel exhaustion after ten minutes or so.

It’s the C172 G1000. Empty community folder. Checked my control and keyboard bindings, nothing fuel-related. And like I said, exact same setup in SU5.1, no issues. I’ve never seen this issue before.

What is the initial fuel quantity when you first spawn at the airport, before you load any fuel via the EFB? Is it already at 0%, or is there some fuel in the tanks initially?

Are you loading fuel in the Fenix A320 using the built-in MSFS EFB?
I believe Fenix,PMDG, iFLY handle fueling differently compared to the default aircraft.

Initial quantity is zero in all aircraft. In the stock Asobo aircraft I load it via the EFB, in the Fenix (the only third-party aircraft I’ve tried it in) I loaded it via the Fenix EFB in the aircraft. All give the same result: fuel holds for maybe 20-30 seconds and then drops to zero again.

I would say this is not correct and issue may start here.
When I load the default C172 G1000, fuel is always 50% (I think it is the same with all others 1st party aircraft).

For sure! I’ve never had initial fuel at 0 in any aircraft ever prior to this beta. It happens now in all aircraft, including the Fenix. One thing I haven’t tried is loading fuel before loading a flight, which is something I’ve never done.

A new beta 1.8.9.0 has just been dropped, can you test it ?

Will do! …10 characters.

On the aircraft I tested (see the screenshots below), the default fuel quantity was always 50%.

SU6 beta 1.8.8.0

Thanks for checking! Very odd. Clearly this isn’t a widespread issue in the beta or it would have been reported already, I just don’t know what about my particular setup is doing this. I’m going to see if I can maybe get FSUIPC to tell me if anything is being triggered, but this literally the same setup I’ve run for 18+ months.

Fuel depletes rapidly.

It’s a shame it’s not designed like the A2A Comanche (the Tomahawk was similar), where some fuel is retained after the flight and stored. In MSFS aircraft, fuel is replenished after the flight by invisible gnomes. HA HA HA

Cannot repro in v1.8.9.0 in the Beechcraft D17 Staggerwing. Started with 50% fuel in each of the five tanks (as normal), flew for over an hour. Tanks drained as fuel was consumed by the engine, requiring manual switching between tanks as each tank reached their usable minimum of 1 gallon, as normal.

I have not found the issue yet, but then again I haven’t gone chasing to find it.

One thing that does occur to me though is that I am wondering if the issue is actually caused by the EFB in SU6. I don’t use an EFB in my flying and so far it hasn’t affected me, but I noticed that the EFB seems to be at the core of the reports.

I wonder if the EFB is not used whether you get the issue or not, in the aircraft you have already tried.

I thought the same thing. I may get around to testing it again today, my problem is I have too much sim “work” to do to spend an entire day chasing this down. I was streaming yesterday and someone in the chat said they’d had the problem in the beta as well. I really want to help figure it out, I think logging events using FSUIPC will tell me what’s going on.
