I run my STEAM Premium Deluxe on a dedicated VR system with motion platform and custom flight gear. It isn’t suitable for any other work (e.g. development). I therefore need a separate MSFS installation on my office/dev computer. And yes, I am past the ‘use MSFS alternatively on either system’. That gave me more than a simple headache. Every time I start MSFS on either of the systems, I need to download gigabytes of ‘updates’. That’s when I am lucky. On other occasions the installation is completely broken with all my settings lost. This may be due to the fact that I use ‘MSFS Addons Linker’ to keep my installation lean, neat and tidy ─ in spite of hundreds of addons and meanwhile a dozen WUs. The ‘Linker’ is my life saver - I couldn’t do without it!
So I’m willing to spend $/€ 60 for a second license (standard will do). But beforehand I need to know what the right and safe way is for such a completely separate installation.
I need to add that the Win systems on both computers are linked to the same MS account.
When I buy a Store license, can I create a new user profile and keep it separated from my current mandatory Xbox account?
Another solution might be to create a second Steam account, buy another MSFS in the Steam shop and keep them separated by different Steam logins?
Thanks for any advice.
Hmm, I too have multiple systems which I use with the same user account, but I don’t have the problems you’re naming.
You still then also might need to use a new microsoft/xbox account, since graphic- and controller settings are tied to the account and stored in the cloud.
I need to have also 2 installations on 2 different PC’s because one runs in the Homecockpit.
I gave up because no one of the Devs answers what is saved in the cloud and why is MSFS always asking which data to use, the one from cloud or the local one’s.
Thats really annoying and i gave up with that.
Is that a (one license) steam copy that you use alternatively across systems? And do you use any content manager (Addon Linker or other)?
My learning so far is that I need to create a second XBox account. But is that enough?
Is that MS or maybe Steam that is asking you that? I remember having been asked that very question when I started a Steam app (not MSFS) after having it played on another system.
I agree with you: It really should be possible to save one’s settings manually! Or at least have the opportunity to restore one of the previous settings!
The only settings I could restore when I lost my profile a couple of days ago were my devices.
And luckily I had some idea what my graphic settings were for desktop and VR, so I may have it back 95% as before. But the real horror is my hangar content. It’s cramped with all stuff I never need! I feel like I’ll never get my system back so neat and tidy as it was before.
Hello,i am speaking about the MS Store Version.
Thats really annoying, the Settings for every System should be saved locally.
I dont like that saving in the cloud at all !
