1440p Monitor Choice Based on My PC Build Components

Hello Everyone,

This is my first post. I LOVE this community!!! The new ideas and product suggestions shared here are amazing, and no other source comes close to providing such comprehensive guidance. It’s a privilege to post here.

I have spent the last few months acquiring the components for my first PC build, which I am undertaking specifically and pretty much exclusively for MSFS 2020, all sourced on a basis of maximum realistic flight sim experience for small GA aircraft like the Cessna 172, within my budget.

The main components are:
GPU: ASUS TUF Gaming RTX 3080 10gb
CPU: Intel i9-12900KF LGA1700
CPU Cooler: MSI MEG CoreLiquid S360
MBoard: MSI MPG Z690 Edge WiFi DDR4
RAM: 64gb Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 3200MHz C16
Storage: 2TB Samsung 980 Pro PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 SSD
1TB Samsung 980 Pro PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 SSD
PSU: Corsair HX1200
Case: Corsair 5000D Airflow
Fans: (10) MSI Silent Gale P12
Keyboard: Editors Keys MSFS 2020 Backlit

Buyer’s Remorse (Possibly): ASUS RTX 3080 10gb—At the time I purchased this at MicroCenter, GPUs were hard to find and this popped up online as available at MC and I jumped on it. Now, having had the benefit of increased awareness of components, I wish I had maybe held out for at least a 12gb version or, even better, an RTX 3080 ti.

My chosen GPU’s limitations are where my confusion about what the best monitor would be for my setup. I was looking at monitors like the Alienware AW3423DW 34" 2K WQHD (3440 x 1440) 175Hz Curved Screen Gaming Monitor. Amazon.com

Would something like this be overkill considering my GPU’s limitations? I don’t want to waste money; I do want to get the best 2K 1440p wide monitor I can get that is best suited for my build.

Any help, suggestions, shared wisdom, hints to go another direction, etc., would be greatly, greatly appreciated.

Thanks much in advance.

That spec is very similar to mine and it will easily run 4k. I had a Samsung 4K monitor, but found it was contributing to eye strain, so switched to the LG 2K.
On the current version of MSFS with my 2K LG and 3080 10Gb the vRAM rarely breaks 70% use, so i wouldn’t worry.
If i switch on DX12 and DLSS it uses even less, but I’m sticking with DX11 and TAA for now.

Thanks so much for sharing that. It is very encouraging. I was really starting to think I misspent $800. I feel better now! As for 4K, I had dismissed that notion because I thought that, all things considered, I’d get a better frame rate and barely perceptible difference, relatively, with a 2K.

Frame rates are much better on the 2K too. More than double, and smoother, which for me is more important. :+1:

Good luck with the build.

That’s exactly what I had concluded—thanks again!

I recently upgraded from an AOC 27 inch 1080 to an ASUS 31.5 inch 4K VP 32UQ (60 Hz) - particularly good - not much more expensive than 2k … great improvement ! … even though I was using DLDSR 2.25 with the old monitor, and had a pseudo-2K look, now it is much improved without much of an fps price - I use DLDSR 2.25 and DLSS Quality … I kept the old monitor as a 2nd monitor, and hope to be able to move instrument panel there when this is available (with out a payware app), and I can web-surf, do work, etc while flying …
