I’m often having this issue in career mode in Msfs 2024 when I try to complete missions (usually cargo ones) with the Cessna 172 Skyhawk. The engine randomly shuts off during the flight when I’m cruising, and after that it becomes impossible to restart the engine making the plane stall and then fail the mission. This always happens above 5.000ft and right before starting the descent to the destination.
Does anyone know how to fix it? Thanks
You are running out of fuel because the mission system has issues adding enough fuel. Adding fuel via the EFB also does not work. Have to wait until Asobo issues a fix.
If you happen to own binding software you can forcefully update you fuel quantity by updating sim variables while waiting for a fix.
Also, make sure your fuel selector is set properly (not just drawing off one tank all the time).
This happens to me constantly too and NO it’s not fuel shutoff, not mapping conflicts, it’s a bug, period.
Agreed, Ive tried close to 15 of them now and every flight stalls mid to 3/4 of the way there, even AFTER refilling fuel, trying to swap fuel selector tanks, trying restarting engines (they just stall again), no damage, its career mode with their aircraft so no worn parts— plain and simple.. it’s a bug!
Happens to me as well during the first fight mission plane crashes for no reason when I try to take off Asobo if you read this comment please fix it
For me, my engine was stalling bc the left tank ran out of fuel. This is bc the 172 has the fuel selector set to Left by default. Setting it to All fixed the issue.
How do you change this? Getting this error frequently so willing to try anything that might work lol
It’s a big lever on the floor under the throttle and mixer
Thank you so much, saved my mssion i was at 200ft lol
How do you set it to All? I just encounterdd this during a 1h flight with 22% fuel. I suspect something I have missed. I was cruising at 13.000 feet (ATC asked me to hold that altitude). I suspect this as you said, or icing issue. I aborted the mission before I crashed to not loose reputation and costs.
Thanks! You are a legend. So I did redo the same mission, private VIP charter. So now after 2 hours of flying, the landing strip was half inside the mountain (in the alps). So failed miserable another mission because of this games bug… so frustrating.
Interesting, I haven’t had this issue, but when I was in the cockpit yesterday I looked at this lever for the first time, and mine was in the All position already.
I was having the same issue with the Beaver, but now I know to cycle on things like Ferry flights, all good. Don’t need any fancy third party bindings if you have concerns about fuel, just go into the controls and bind something to add fuel.
Did run into one nightmare in a Pipistrel ferry, about midflight the sim gave me a generator fault, battery lasted a while, but then a while later all the electronics shutdown … ok, fine. Got to the destination and landed, parked up, but the mission would not complete … why? Because the dumb mission scripting required me to make the landing radio call, which I could not make because all the electronics were dead
i just bought the cargo company with the 172 skyhawk. doing my first mission. and almost at destination. the plane randomly stalls and spins out of control resulting in crashing the plane. i put hours into getting the money for the company and the plane. plane is out of order now with repair cost of 385k.
Same thing happened to me just now, tried to land on a motorway lol, but mission failed
Thank you, I didn’t notice that when automatically starting the engine the fuel mixture lever doesn’t get selected to “all” but instead it gets selected only to the left fuel tank. That’s why the engine always stops running while still having 25%-20% of fuel left
Had this problem just now. Really annoying. Was playing in freelance mode so this would have resulted in my 2nd crash due to this bug.
Great job, that this is bug is still a thing.
What a disgrace
Well it happened to me just a few min. ago. First time in sim. An actual engine fail. I took off from San Juan Island headed inland to Mexico. IFR and ATC would not allow me to climb past 2100ft. Should have clued me in there but I continue over the ocean at 2100. An hour later I get the “Engine Malfunction” warning box but goes away. I start scanning gauges and keep that up. Over the ocean here so i get worried. Ok so now i’m over land about 100min. in flight. Start hearing an unusual engine sound. I start in the pattern and thankfully start to bring back power. Made it all the way.. Turning to final at San Quinton Millitary Base and engine shuts off.
Did what i could to try to get the last 1/4 mile out of it but i ended up hitting escape right before I made friends with the town just before the threshhold of runway 27. Now … i’m not mad or anything. Just disapointed. I did a service on said 172 before flight and all checked green. Had fuel and even tried to restart in a panic but it’s for not. “He’s dead Jim” I think as I ponder my life choices.
I am sort of happy to see failures happen in a simulator. But at the same time.. I was missing the old trusty engine of the 172 that never failed before. Now I don’t really trust it anymore. Just makes you giggle a bit.
Whatever… At least I was able to reach the ESC button.
Well now after all this happened I am fairly certain that it was my mistake. I had the Alternate air pulled and from what I can tell, it was the EGT that ended up to high. I forgot to turn it off. Probably why I got that valve noise at the end. I only noticed this when I just did another flight and didn’t turn that on. The temp was lower and the malfunction didn’t happen. My bad.
