2021 MSFS Charity Endurance Race Series Event 1: Indian Pacific Wing Race (YPPH to YSSY) Update: Prize from Microsoft!

My info looks good @SeedyL3205

This is MO Pilot 54 by the way.

Hello,
Apologies, I registered twice by mistake. I initially entered as KIWI1 but realized I did not provide the complete number. Since I did not receive verification (at least I was not aware until now), I registered again under my full name/number: Kiwi1#7108. Feel free to delete KIWI1–flying as one person is challenging enough!

So in this pie chart
the green 1 next to the Pitts segment doesn’t have a label and the blue looks-like-a-one next to the Extra 330 segment doesn’t have either a number or a label. What are those?

Robin Cap 10 and Shock Ultra, respectively.

Jesus H
a Shock Ultra? Brave man

Why wouldn’t everyone choose the fastest aircraft with the most range?

Very interesting indeed

Because it is the first race of the season, it’s not the hardest one by far in term of geography / weather / flying time, and you can’t use the same plane in several races. Saving my fast one & my best-range one for later.

Btw I’m not sure the two guys that picked the VL-3 have realized it has no autopilot anymore (and mods / tinkering with .cfg files is not an option).

Well firstly cos you can only use it once in the whole race series and secondly
after the SR22, what is the fastest aircraft with the most range?

The extra 330 is pretty fast but it doesn’t have an autopilot, most inconvenient that is. Especially if you’re getting up at 1am to fly this like what I am. The Pitts is pretty fast but has terrible range, also no autopilot. The Xcub isn’t that quick but has decent range and an autopilot but it’s a taildragger, which adds more chance of a poor landing. Last time I looked the DA40 had half a fuel tank, but it’s v nice to fly. The choices go on

Yup thanks. The single use aircraft part I had forgotten about. Just as well I had to bow out!

Good point about the DA40, I like it a lot but I fly the modded one
I’ll have to make sure it’s worthy in stock form before picking it for later races.

SimAir.io seems to have a mind of its own. During testing over the past few days it often (approx 90%) randomly disconnects during flight regardless of settings, windows opened/not opened, pausing or esc /not pausing or esc the sim, etc. So far Discord has not helped me identify anything I might be doing wrong. Many touch-and-gos during the crossing will be required

The only catch with SimAir I’ve noticed is that you need to launch the client and login to your account before you open MSFS. Also, if you’re unfortunate enough to have your sim crash to desktop, you need to exit and restart SimAir before re-launching MSFS.

Thanks for the advice. I will keep testing/troubleshooting, but for me most flights last about 26 minutes before SimAir disconnects for no apparent reason. However, I did complete the entire flight last weekend without an issue. No worries, the flight more interesting/challenging with technical issues. Cheers!

Just want to clarify something because of what happened when I flew a trip now.

Was doing a flight and 3 hours in my autopilot borked, as it does. If this had been in the race I could have gone to the nearest airport, done a touch and go, restarted MSFS and continued on from there, right?

What fuel level are we then putting in? Or is it a mandatory 10minute refuel when things like that happen? In my case, I could check my fuel level, put in the same amount and continue, but if MSFS crashes, you might not know what you had?

Edit: I guess we could check SimAir and see the fuel level we had at touch down there?

If that same situation happens again, I suggest treating it as a mandatory 10 minute fuel stop after restarting the sim at the last airport you landed at. It’s not an ideal solution, but given the constraints we have, it’s not unreasonable. And 10 minutes isn’t going to make or break your race.

Yeah, sounds like the best option.

And I have no expectations to win this. I’m a noob at this, so expecting to end up at the back of the pack somewhere. The journey and the experience is the price for me.

Honestly, I think that’s the case for most of us. I organized this event and am participating for fun, community-building, and raising money for the Royal Flying Doctors. If I manage to finish in the top half of the leaderboard, I’ll treat that as a successful race for me.

So does that mean you’re gonna be in the streamers Discord channel being sociable this time?

I plan to stop in and say hello to everyone a few times.
