As also a long time user of AS in FSX and P3D, I would love to see a step-up in functionality to enable realistic weather radar. But I doubt whether AS would be investing in an MSFS V1 to then be outsmarted by a comprehensive development within MSFS2024 in only a few months. So I guess my money would be on an AS/MS2024 implementation within MSFS2024 software.
I will be one of the 1st to buy this. I used Active Sky in FS9 and it was great. This is one of the best things I have read all week.
Do you realize is not the same right? It will work exactly as REX because there is no other way to inject weather in MSFS except by changing presets.
Until I see a video or how the transitions work itās a maybe for me.
I made the mistake of buying the REX weather package when it came out for MSFS and it just didnāt improve things enough to justify using it. Itās been uninstalled for the past couple of years. So it makes me suspicious of what the devs can achieve with AS.
I used ActiveSky on P3D, but P3Dās weather support/clouds were terrible at the time.
Historical weatherās an interesting feature, but definitely holding off any excitement here till I hear reports from people who buy it and love it and share why. ![]()
How will Active Sky do it? I understood Asobo is still not ready to open the weather engine to third party applications?
They did say but did not promise that they will be working on the MSFS 2024 version and will release the upgrade at no additional charge if you go from MSFS 2020 to 2024. However the caveat is that they will only do this if the transition does not require a major overhaul to get it to work on the 2024 platform.
Same here. I liked some of the graphics, but the abrupt weather changes were too jarring. Uninstalled and havenāt missed it. I still have the AccuSeasons, and I like it just fine. Itās not perfect, but what is?
According to PMDG this program will probably not make weather radar possible⦠thats a bummer
It is my understanding that the Weather API doen“t allow for reading weather data. That is why a lot of Aircraft dont have a Weather Radar and stuff like tilting etc. will not work.
But there seems to alreasdy exist a way of injecting some weather data. That is how REX seems to do it. It changes the data of the currently used Weather Preset. And that is most likely how AS will also do it, if you are not using the Ingame Live Weather / AS Effects Combo. How smooth this will transit, remains to be seen.
Watching with interest, but as a live weather flyer I will need a little bit of convincing first. I used to use it with FSX, but only sctratched the surface of what was available. Nonethheless, it will be good to see them back in the mix.
I wanted to create a New Topic about it because I saw the big time news this morning, and thought that I was the only one earth to know that!
Well Iām so late!
Such a great news! It wonāt be possible to fly a C152 in TS, CB, anymore!!! Like in Xplane!
Therefore it feels that āDangers in the skies are coming as well!ā for the sake of realism!
Fantastic!

Meteoblue provides the weather data and API to Microsoft, for MSFS 2020. The Asobo team has stated that Meteoblue will not open up the use of their API to 3rd party developers.
I have REX wheather, but it is a castrofy. So so bad. I only use MSFS live wheather. And i like it! What will AS provide that has not been tried?
Yes thats true for reading Data, but not for injecting.
Thanks for your reply. There are those of us who wait for reviews to research new products, before purchasing, to make sure that itās a quality product. In the past, I bought Active Sky, and REX for P3D. Active Sky had better weather depiction, but the cloud textures were better in REX.
Since youāre a developer, how well could Active Sky for MSFS depict, AND inject the weather from accurate sources? MSFS weather has some great weather depiction, but the cloud textures need work.
Thanks!
By the way, I purchased REX for MSFS, but the weather injection was not good. It has multiple weather injection issues, so I donāt use it anymore. I use the MSFS weather.
What great news? We already have REX to inject presets into the MSFS world, thatās the only thing that you can do as there is no API to change the weather in MSFS. Activesky has the same limitation as any other app. I hope they will be open about how they do things because Iām seeing a lot of people confused thinking Activesky has some black magic that no other app has.
The presets in themselves can create pretty decent weather -albeit with very limited range of cloud formations/types. Dynamic alteration of presets isnāt necessarily a bad thing. It will all depend on how it is implemented and how smooth the transition is from one data point to another.
I am too skeptical about this to be honest, I am not sure how they are going to implement live weather. It looks like theyāre going to be based on actual Metar/TAFs. So this something similar to what they used to do for FSX/P3D. One thing we must remember that on FSX/P3D there was no live weather implementation so products like active sky were absolutely must. With MSFS - things have changed, Again the current implementation of weather within sim is just about okay (No thunderstorms or any weather phenomena) - Not perfect I know but can get job done. Also with MSFS 2024 on horizon, who knows what it bring - although Hifi have said in their post that they are looking to make this compatible when MSFS 2024 releases or after.
Iām personally a huge fan of hifi and their active sky products and have used it for both FSX & P3D. This one Iāll just have wait and watch out to see what it brings. Although the features mentioned above are reasonable - Iād rather wait and see what MSFS 2024 brings.
Will this realistically depict different weather conditions in the distance like incoming fronts and thunderstorms?
Or will it simply transition the whole sky to a preset matching the nearest observation station?
If the latter it wonāt be much different than the other live weather apps available already and not something I would buy again. The screenshots they show arenāt that exciting either. I mean what is this?
I miss the 2020-2021 MSFS live weather so much.
