2024 Controls Interface Discussion

A slight detour, but this is how X-Plane handles specific control behaviour.

I program keys F1 to F12 as softkeys for the G1000 and NumPad keys as the 6 control keys, left/right for inner and outer FMS knob etc. So every plane with a G1000 uses the same profile named “G1000” which contains all keyboard and joystick settings. Nice and simple:

The use of the tree display on the right makes it so easy to follow and assign different planes.

I haven’t even checked to see if they’ve added a map range inc/decr binds yet

anyone know how to navigate this screen to choose from the line items below? im on xbox. there’s no cursor icon to navigate. im stumped

Hello, on Xbox here too. Please may I suggest plugging in a simple USB mouse? One with the scroll wheel even better but anything around your house will do. Having a mouse in addition to a controller and any other stuff you have connected will make flight sim life much easier/fun.

I hear you, but I don’t want that setup. I use wireless controller and I don’t want to hook up a mouse with a dongle or long cable. I really never had a problem in 2020 without a mouse as I don’t navigate cockpit stuff much.

Hear ya loud and clear! Maybe keep this in the back pocket for now. About this time last year I switched from the wireless controller to a wired one for a few reasons, never looked back. Before that I adopted the keyboard mouse thing to better operate the PMDG 737. There are many ways to interact with MSFS, so to each his own. While not an issue that I have in 24, I have read around that wireless Bluetooth controllers may have been an issue for some folks. Anyway, good flying today and thanks for your consideration. Cheers!

Nicley done!! First real good explanation of the system that is very easy to comprehend.
I have started to program some on Hotas One and now can make sense of the system. I agree the system is developed for further upgrades of a/c.
Thank you for shining light into the dark tunnel!!

Anyone using a Thrustmaster Hotas for helicopters? I cannot see a way of having cyclic, collective and throttle as seperate binds on the Hotas that would be intuative. Surely collective and throttle should be linked as one bind but the game is not playable with this setup. Not many joysticks have 3 sliders and if I need to assign the throttle to the keyboard I would need 3 hands…

Have just tried 2024 on cloud gaming, what a waste of time. It loaded fairly quickly and the graphics were great maybe better than series x. But the control system was a complete disaster totally different to either the series x or the pc versions. Throttle, flaps, brakes in fact everything was unknown, could not fly it and had to crash out of it. Why not keep the same controls on Xbox controller as in 2020.

No they should be separate.

Most helis have a governor, so you only use the throttle during engine start then set it and enable the governor to manage it through flight. You can even use the mouse to control the cockpit throttle in this case.

If you are flying an old design of heli without a governor then I can’t really help. You really need a control that let’s you manipulate collective and throttle independently and precisely using only one hand. Obviously a real hardware collective is perfect in that role.

Don’t know which TM HOTAS you have, if it is one which comes with T16000M, you can set collective on small wheel at left side, which you can turn with pinky finger.

Hello, I’ve got a wireless mouse with a dongle. Works great!

that’s good, thanks for the info. but I dont want to invest more money into this when the cursor should appear and UI be easy to navigate like 2020 is. plus my usage case is really for 1 thing as I wont use it in cockpit 95% of the time. but yeah an option if they dont fix it

You should be able to push down on left stick to get a cursor!

it does not work for me for unknown reasons.

Trying to map buttons to my Honeycomb Alpha, and when i clear a conflict the JOYSTICK NUMBER BUTTON CHANGES.

I hate this mess so badly.

This is the basic ■■■■ that SHOULD HAVE BEEN TESTED. But is still not functional weeks after release.

I have not experienced that when binding the buttons/switches on my Honeycomb Alpha.

Haven’t had any problems napping buttons on my alpha or Bravo. I find the fact you have multiple profiles and the sim correctly binds that profile to the aircraft once you assign it to be a bog improvement over the way it was in 2020

Yeah, I was on Discord with my buddy as he set up his Alpha / Bravo combo while I did the same with my Virpil HOTAS. No issues. For either of us.

Not that this game doesn’t have a ton of problems, but it’s pretty clear that a LOT of the complaining comes from issues caused by user error. It’s disheartening to see so many people ranting and raving about how terrible this game is and how incompetent the devs are when I’d all-but-guarantee that the problems they’re encountering are of their own making.

What do you mean by ‘joystick number button’?

Sounds like you might be mistaking it for the number of bindings it has. These aren’t necessarily ‘conflicts’ because they operate in different circumstances - so the same button can do different things in cockpit or external view, in which case it would show ‘2’.
