2026-03-05 Weekly Briefing Discussion

Another week, another lack of Dev Stream/Dev update :frowning:

We understand work is ongoing. It’s the lack of communication that we find frustrating. Just an occasional mention that specific items are still being worked on would go a long way towards placating that frustration.

For example, you stated above “as soon as we’re able to share more information with you all, rest assured that we will!” Why aren’t you able to now? It’s not like it’s a state secret, right? Even without a lot of details, we’d simply like to know that things haven’t been totally forgotten.

Instead, we mostly get…

For some at least four month ago I have been asking about an update for the blue squares over some parts of Greenland. No respond yet, thus a confirmed bug for 2020. How or what to do for getting some feedback from ”who it may concern” at MSFS or Asobo?

I think the beta is falling flat on expectations and lack of communication adds to the scepticism

There are 100s of bug threads over 6 months old and the new beta addresses almost none of it and also adds more bugs. The default fleet still lacking, lots of in house fingerpointing and we are left out to dry flying buggy planes that are still worse than their 2020 sibling. Perhaps a beta focus on performance this time around, but I’ll be honest it’s marginal at best on Xbox, it not easy to identify if you are in beta or public build on Xbox. And ive definately seen a lack of activity from Xbox users in the beta threads, compared to SU4. Not expecting any new build today given this one is 4 days old, nothing meaningful anyway.

I’m on Xbox series X, and decided not to bother with the beta this time around. The reason being is that I’m happy with how SU4 is performing and how stable it is. I participated in all of the betas prior to this one, especially SU4 beta as SU3 was unplayable for me. I look forward to the full release of SU5 though, to see what improvements have been made.

And MSFS (2020)?

I enjoyed the periodic development updates and to know which of the top bugs and wishlist items were being actively worked on. Slowing down the cadence for those posts was fine, but we seem to have gone too much the other way now. Probably pending an announcement of new content at the Expo, but the bugs & wishlist generally don’t concern new content anyway…

However, it’s not all bad. I noticed the marketplace updates have been rather devoid of a certain prolific developer who seemed to have been abusing the ratings system, so that’s a potential positive for the less discerning shoppers out there. It may be just by chance, and even if not, I don’t wish for anyone to be blocked from the marketplace; just play fair with selling add-ons through it.

Hi @CaphollandX

MSFS (2020) received its last public update within the last two weeks. The Release Notes can be found here: Release Notes - Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020) Sim Update 16.1 [1.39.12.0] - Official Microsoft Flight Simulator / News & Announcements - Microsoft Flight Simulator Forums

Thanks
The MSFS Team

English is not my native language but “last” sounds to me like “final”. Even though I no longer use 2020, I hope it was NOT its final update.

“Latest” would have been better, but don’t read too much into that.

Yeah, not my intention. Just trying to be cautious how it could be interpreted, especially by non-native speakers …

Completely agree with how that can be interpreted. Am I allowed to blame a lack of caffeine on a Monday morning for the mistake?

To 110% clarify, MSFS (2020) received its latest public update just under two weeks ago.

I don’t even open it. I just read this thread, if something seems interesting then I will go and have a look. Otherwise I get my news here.

Yes, I am aware of the recent 16.1 update, and of course also SU16. While both of these updates addressed a few key bugs (mostly around CTD conditions) their main objective was to align FS2020 with the FS2024 world, which for many FS2020 users was perceived as a visual downgrade.

The broader feeling of FS2020 being abandoned lies in the fact that after October 2024 the bug list that provided visibility into future FS2020 development plans stopped being updated or even shown. The most recent wishlist still contained FS2020 items, but status updates mostly reflect FS2024 fixes.

While the lack of FS2020-focused updates was initially understandable due to how the launch of FS2024 was going, the fact that it’s been over a year since an FS2020 bug list has been published tends to reinforce the perception that its future is being abandoned.

In the May 2025 developer stream Jorg answered the following question:

Jorg: ”Yes, I will do that. I’ll try it. I might try it for, well, it’s tomorrow right? How about next week. I’ll do it next week."

Unfortunately, this never actually happened.

By this point it feels almost futile to hope that this list will return to a Developer Update anytime soon.
