3rd Party Aircraft Purchases for Xbox?

Happy Sunday everyone! First, I want to re-iterate how beautiful this game is, how great a job the devs are doing, and how much I look forward to it being on the xbox!

I have heard a lot of people say the GA aircraft in MSFS are very close to the real thing. I know I got bombasted last time I critiqued the landing roll stopping distance of the large jets (which I have new evidence for - one word: Prepar3d, and I will maybe post a new thread about that since the last one got shut down because it wasn’t going anywhere), but this time I want to talk small GA planes.

So anyway, I’ll get right to the question of the post- will we be able to purchase some of the planes these 3rd part companies are currently releasing for the PC version? That would be great and mostly nullify the gripes below. These planes these companies are making are much more realistic and difficult to fly.

The DC-6 is a doozy but looks too complicated for someone like me who hasn’t simmed in years and years. I would like to be able to get the Cessna 170, as it has a very realistic stall speed of 52kts, and if the wings aren’t level you are snap stalling to one side or the other. It seems only recently, MSFS has upgraded the stall speeds on small GA aircraft by considering load factor to a higher degree. Is this true? I don’t want to fly around in a plane that behaves more like a 3D RC that can be flown in a gymnasium. I don’t want to have zero problems flying a cessna 152 final approach at 50 kts. Need that plane to keel over at such low speeds!

Anyway, if us Xbox users can purchase 3rd party aircraft that would alleviate much of the issue until MS fixes more of the flight models on the standard planes.

If my recall is any good (questionable) a C150 won’t keel over at 50kt’s (full flaps) on final. So…

I believe you’ll only have access to Marketplace purchases.

Would that only be Microsoft made planes?

EDIT:

This needs to be edited due to the apparent fact that my info was a little older than the latest announcement and therefore not entirely correct anymore. In a thread of currently 26 posts and already sufficiently indicated answers it seems to be necessary to correct me several times instead of reading the answers first.

I find this annoying and pointless and hence I edit this post.

cheers.

Personal Comments:

During the June Dev Q&A, Jorg mentioned that Third-Party Developers with products on the MSFS MarketPlace would have the option of displaying their product for purchase to the XBox Console Community. Along with other comments from insiders, there is a bit more acceptance and clearance process to get your software product certified for console use. So it’s up to the individual developer to make that call (and implied time & effort to get certified) if they want the expanded customer base.

A few developers (like PMDG) have said that after an exclusive period on their website, their products would also be released on the marketplace, thus, through this logic, will be also available on Xbox.

fantastic, thanks guys!

Just to be sure, I double checked, this is what PMDG said, to give you an example:

(I am on the phone, didn’t find the exact quote but it is somewhere in this thread):

And I think that if PMDG does this, a lot of other (respectable) developers will do the same.

not true, stick to facts please.
only the devs that allow their stuff on xbox will go over.
ms/asobo has nothing to say over those.
in practice , i do expect most store planes to be ported over, but it is not a certainty

For a plane like the PMDG DC-6 you will probably need a mouse to push the switches. I think you can connect a mouse to an Xbox but i don’t know how many people do this and how many people like to use a mouse when not sitting behind a desk or table.

So if these airplanes become available to Xbox they probably have to include a disclaimer that the functionality of the addon is limited if you don’t use a mouse and keyboard.

Probably the devs will need to specify wich platforms they want to make their products available for to prevent these problems.

Yeah CasualClick above has already corrected it, apparently Jörg has announced that in June, my state of knowledge was a couple of weeks older. No need to play the hobby sheriff for the rest of the thread. :man_facepalming:t2:

PMDG have included an option (for PC) to use the typical PMDG mouse including a right click. But by default it can be controlled like every other airplane. You can use a mouse with an XBox, also a keyboard and other controllers so the DC6 can be used there as every other addon. Whether it makes much sense to fly it with an xbox game controller is a decision each to their own but it‘s technically possible. You can use the automated flight emgineer for the systems and only need to start the engines and fly in that case.

Exactly, most of MSFS was already controllable in its entirety with a controller from launch (ofc you will have to bind what you want and click the rest with the controller), so this will be equally possible on xbox.
I suppose many people will add other peripherals to their xbox. It would be interesting to see how far VR and Headtracking will be able to integrate with the modified Windows/Xbox OS

Microsoft should be able to configure the controller to press and hold a button down and use the left and right sticks to look around, point and click to flip the switches in the cockpit.

Yes if you use a mouse it’s basically a PC, so it will work fine.
But then they should include some kind of disclaimer as most Xbox users don’t use a mouse or don’t want to use one.

Mouse and keyboard can only be used if the game supports them, along with any other type of controller.

I was just wondering if the FBW a320 will be available on the console? As a newbie it’s quite concerning reading about all the issues with the default model. Also are there any airliners on the marketplace that would be worth investing in. Thanks

Well if SimConnect will not be released on XBox, running Neo/fbw may be inhibited… there’s a SimConnect interface in the code, so if it requires a connection (and I think it does) it will not work.

FlyByWire A320 is freeware. When they want to put it in the store, it will be payware probably… and also validated by Microsoft before it is admitted. I don’t expect it right away on 27/7 but maybe there’s other news already, I’m not sure.
