This looks interesting.
Fights against avionics blackouts on lower end hardware and free up memory by disabling systems you don’t need or use to help frame rate generally.

Saw the announcement on this earlier today, and have been thinking about it off and on. I suspect (from the screenshots shared) it is just updating configuration files (turning stuff off and on).
Which means you could essentially just do this yourself (if you know what files to look for).
On PC, for products purchased outside of the Marketplace that’s easy enough as they are not encrypted, on XBOX that might be a bit trickier depending on how accessible the file system is.
Or I could be completely incorrect in how they are doing it and they are jamming it out another way.
Which also leaves me wondering if this will pass the sniff test and make it onto the Marketplace (depending on what files they are altering and how).
Eh, I appreciate //42’s innovation and if this helps Xbox users, great, but… I’d assume most people want their avionics on, or they wouldn’t be flying a plane with avionics? I just don’t quite get it, I guess.
The file system is completely inaccessible on the Xbox. Totally closed platform, so your idea’s not an option there.
I think this is primarily a utility that will help Xbox users (especially Series S), but might be handy for less technical PC users with lower-end PCs.
@Stardrifter2232, a user might turn off instruments on the copilot’s side, or turn them off when doing VFR sightseeing on a clear day.
I wouldn’t use this, but it’s a nice inexpensive option for folks who have lower-performing systems/platforms.

Great response, thanks for the clarification! I figured I had to be missing something, and I was.
How Do I Bring Up My Installed 'Taboo" on my screen While In My Cockpit flying ??
From the toolbar when you hover your mouse pointer or xbox pointer in the top part of the MSFS screen:
I see this is out now in the marketplace for xbox.
I’m wondering if anyone has impressions of this on console, and if it helps at all to alleviate the reduced detail / draw distance that kicks in more regularly now after SU15?
Might pick this up anyway, just to try. I’m curious if it would make Cowansim’s helicopters more usable, as I find they tend to cause the throttling pretty bad. I’m not sure if that’s more down to flight dynamics rather than avionics though.
anyone seing improvements on PC,
FPS stutter wise.
I have an RTX2060, flying the PMDG maybe this will be helpfull.

Worst of all, this product is kinda like to trying ice skate uphill, because Asobo intentionally made it so that the avionics turn off. And they made it the most aggressive it’s ever been in SU 15 making a flight just as good as a CTD since it’s useless.
You can’t even use 3rd party airport scenery anymore.
On Xbox Series X
Anyway I find that //42 Taboo can be helpful, but doesn’t solve any problems. It works best on aircraft that have independent avionics for the Captain and First officer. If the screen are just mirroring each other then it’s not going to work since in order to turn off the first officer’s side you also have to turn off Captain’s side. This is the case with most of the GA aircraft with glass cockpits.
I did mange to get it to work with the FSR 500, taking off from LGAV with the Feelthere scenery. But I had to load into another airport first with hardly any scenery and start the GPU which just turns on the Captains side which allowed me to turn off some screens independently. Then I loaded back into LGAV to still have the screens on but they turned off anyway a few moments after I took off and didn’t turn back on. I then canceled the flight since there is no way to navigate in an all glass cockpit with no screens.
I did have more success with the PMDG 737-800 at Berlin EDDB with the Limesim scenery. Since that one lets you control every display independantly. I took off and flew towards LIRF in Rome.
I made the 3 hour flight ok up until I was about 5 miles out from the runway, then I got all black screens and a few moments later I got a CTD as I was lining up with the run way. What a waste of 3 hours of my life. I just turned off my Xbox then and started playing The Last of Us on my PS5.
So in conclusion, the Taboo app is helpful, but it doesn’t fix anything. I was able to get further than I’ve ever gotten in two flights both GA and Airliner, but they both still ended in disasters.
I use it successfully on PC, not sure if it helps, it might be just a placebo effect. But it works. The only aircraft where Taboo doesn’t work for me are the FSS E-jets, it causes the FMS to freeze. I use it with IniBuilds A300/A320neo, PMDG 737/777, Fenix A320 and LSH Maddog without any problems.
What graphics card do you have?
RTX 2080 in a gaming laptop.
I bought this product (lower end laptop); it works, but I don’t manage to select the displays from the FO only, it always puts inop both sides … Anyone has the same experience? Thanks.
Not my experience. A few posts above I listed aircraft where I use it successfully. With only FO side screens disabled.
Yes, I guess it depends on the aircraft. If the screens are just mirroring each other it won’t be that useful. (See my comment above)
Other things to look out for are the airports, scenery and real-time traffic.
Any airport add on larger than 1.3 GB
Any City or Landmark addons such as Samscene3D city packs
Loading into busy airports with real-time traffic.
So now the community has a few weeks’ experience with this product, is it beneficial to high-end PC users who just want to try to squeeze a few extra fps out of extremely demanding airports like MK’s KLGA?
Also, does it improve performance in cockpit view only? Or when using exterior/drone views too?
Cheers.
If the aircraft is still rendering the cockpit displays in those camera modes, it should impact those as well. I’m honestly not sure if any aircraft do that - I guess you could tell if you drone into the cockpit and see the displays updating.
