I’ll get a new CPU, mainboard and DDR5 Ram and I’m seeking informationabout if 48 GB Ram is enough or if it should (must) be 64 GB. Any of you has experience with it?
I have 32Gb RAM and that is plenty even on ultra settings.
If you are doing video editing or other heavy resources stuff at the same time as playing FS24, then 48 or even better 64.
With 32 my RAM usage in game is about 75% once the game settles down.
Thank you. 48 GB is ok for anything I’ll do apart from MSFS. So the decision is just about the sim.
I have 48GB of ram installed in my kind of relic yet still very well working PC. I think the ram usage depends a lot on what resolution you want to play and what graphics settings, using high end scenery and any ai traffic you’re going to use in the end. If you are going for example for 4K than 48GB should be enough but to be on the safer side I would suggest going with 64GB just to be really safe.
For my resolution I am using, 1440, and the settings I am currently at, 48GB is plenty of ram.
Cheers
In 2020 I’m at 4K with my 9900K and 3080TI. The new setup will include a 5080, though. The CPU will be a 14900K. So maybe I should go for 64 GB. Using 48 GB the RAM could be a bit faster (MSI Z790I Edge mainboard).
But to add to this: I think it’s better to go with 64GB of ram. In that case you will have identical kits which is better if your going to use xmp profiles in your bios. I can’t get that to run due to having two different kits in my PC. There the same but not identical in size and I can’t run any xmp profiles. Could be another problem but I think it is because of that.
I would get identical 2x 24 GB.
In that case…
But as you said, you’re try to go with 4K. So 64GB should be on the safe side.
In vr using the Cessna 172 taxiing around Heathrow I hit 31GB with a vanilla game, my concern is with 3rd party addons 32GB will cutting it close in some situations, I’ve gone with 64GB
Less choice at 48 than 64. But if you can find and procure 2 X 24 that is on the MB QVL then it should suffice. More is normally always better though.
- And, may be, even more.
Why did you choose Intel i9 14900K, especially considering Intel’s past issues and the uncertainty about whether they’ve fully resolved the voltage problems? Currently, Ryzen 7 9800X3D is the king of gaming - if it’s unavailable, its older sibling, Ryzen 7 7800X3D is still a great option.
Regarding RAM - for example, the difference between 32GB and 64GB can be significant. With 64GB, you’ll experience fewer FPS drops during demanding tasks resulting in more stable and higher performance overall.
The reason for choosing Intel is simply because I always used Intel. I don’t know anything about AMD CPUs.
I used to discourage buying AMD CPUs, but now I wholeheartedly recommend AMD X3D series. After 30 years of using Intel, I switched to AMD and have no regrets. Until recently, I had an Intel i9 13900K but I returned it to Intel for obvious reasons and they refunded my money. I bought a Ryzen 7 7800X3D and on its release day a Ryzen 7 9800X3D.
I don’t regret switching from Intel to AMD and plan to stick with AMD CPUs for a long time because (right now) there’s nothing better for gaming.
I’ve had no issues with AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D or the motherboards designed for Ryzen X3D CPUs. Additionally, my latest CPU, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D stays cool during gaming like snow in Antarctica.
Can I tune the AMD CPU? My 9900K runs on water cooling at 5.2 GHZ all cores. For the 14900K I would try to get it to 5.9 GHZ on all performance cores.
Is similar treatment possible with AMD?
Ryzen 7 9800X3D can be overclocked because it has an unlocked multiplier. However, there’s no real need to overclock this CPU as it already provides excellent performance for gaming
Go for the 64GB of RAM. I honestly don’t know what’s happening but I’m consuming up to 50 GB of RAM.
Aerosoft EDDF
Fenix A321
BATC with FSLTL models
4K all on ultra (4090, 32 GB RAM, 7950X3D)
There was a video somewhere, the author investigated into this. The punchline was that in the heaviest scenery with Fenix A320 he had about 41GB of RAM consumed by the system + MSFS, so I guess 32GB may not be enough depending on your flying. But the sim is like gas: takes all space that’s available to it. I stopped at 48GB for myself and so far it has been enough. If you can afford a good 64GB kit then, perhaps, it’s a good idea to have headroom for future.
I use 64GB myself.
I have a -30 undervolt on my 9800x3D, while testing with P95 I am sitting at a max of 61C with an old Thermaltake FloeRing 280 AIO. I have also played with an overclock of +200 MHZ PBO which had it running at 5.5GHZ at 72C in P95, but as said previously it is not really needed so I backed it off.
The 9800x3D is a beast! If you are getting it and a 5xxx GPU then there is no reason not to get the 64gb kit, it is only a small difference in cost and gives you the headroom for future proofing your system.
