4K monitor and ultra settings

If we run the sim in 4K monitor DLSS do we really need every setting on ultra such as buildings, trees and bushes? Things like waves, clouds, reflections etc do since the quality makes a difference but what about those I mentioned plus resolution, Super sampling and synthesis. Doesn’t 4K take care of those automatically?

No one can answer that but the user themselves but I will say the higher the graphics then the more leeway with LOD and traffic. Saying that it really depends on your hardware, for the rtx3 series upwards most ultra settings hardly make a dent. 4k is a higher resolution so a much better picture but it can still be improved considerably with ultra especially when using DLSS and big screens.

No. It just increases the resolution. Those other settings make things look better. And a great looking photo at low resolution is different from a bad looking photo at high resolution.

Ok makes sense. Thanks for the reply

Thanks for your input. I have a better understanding of it now.

It might be worth lowering resolution or resolution scaling to turn up some other details. But the difference between high and ultra is not huge.

I guess what I am saying is your best settings depend on your system and finding them is part of the fun.

And anyway even ultra isn’t max, not counting renderscale or LOD both terain shadows and supersampling have another notch. Then of course there’s more available in NVCP (or it’s AMD equivalent).

I think the answer in the end is a ‘suck it and see’ situation. Start with some average settings and slowly increase until you get performance issues like stutters etc. At that point you have taken one step too far. Also ensure you do your test flight rigorously under same flight conditions. For example, I always test from the same airport, with the same plane, at the same flight time, and clear skies situation.
There are so many variables in all this that trying it is the only way to get a grip on this in my opinion.

This is so true. Dont pursue ULTRA as some Holy Grail. try and see.

I’m running the sim at 4k and mid-ish settings and I’m happy with it, I get 60fps most of the time. I don’t see any reasons squeeze your hardware and get a laggy flight experience like most of the Youtube videos.

YouTube itself often introduces lags, sometimes even if your vid is within their recommended parameters. I’m looking for a (free) alternative even if it means me seeing a few ads, I don’t upload enough to make a subscription worthwhile.

Facts. The actual difference between High and Ultra is almost not even noticeable, regardless of what many claim.

Scenery is more complete as far as I can see.

Yea I always run it on all ultra settings with DLSS on now. I increased my Terrain LOD to 400 yesterday and was impressed how smooth it was overall. There were some slight stutters when panning view but everything else remained smooth. I’m also in SU11 beta and the recent update actually improved that performance where I’m able to cranck up the TLOD to 400.

My specs are i7 11900k strix 3080ti 64GB ram 1TB SSD, WIN11

True, although clouds is one of those exceptions.
