I think I’ve read a discussion about that here, but darned if I can find it.
I’m currently running @ 4K in the driver, and 100% 4K in the sim.
I should be happy, because my performance @ 4K is better than I expected. The reason (perhaps a bad reason) I’m considering this is (as is my wont) I’d like to experiment and see if I can tweak for any improvement.
I’m unclear whether I should set my nVidia resolution to 2K, or keep it at 4K and use nVidia scaling to get it to 85%, then upscale to 4K in the sim. Or something else?
Am I wrong to think rescaling will improve FPS (which currently isn’t bad, except in the notoriously difficult environments, so that’s not my main goal…)
And 4K looks really good. I don’t want to lose a lot of fidelity in the pusuit of FPS/Latency.
I just did a flight in my Bonanza, and from T/O to 6,000 ft. through a lot of (Ultra) clouds, I was seeing a smooth 45-50 FPS. Once leveled off into clear skies it was a smooth 65-70 FPS. At 2K I would see 90 FPS in the same scenario.
Should I just leave well enough alone?

Nothing is free. Scaling always costs something whether its fidelity or FPS.
The easy way is to leave everything at 4k and use the Render Scale slider in the sim. You don’t mention TAA vs DLSS
Also, try Texture Resolution LOW in the game settings. This only affects terrain textures, so the cockpit will still look great. Lately I am turning down any settings that relate to the terrain because I want all my compute power going to smooth flight experience. YMMV.

DLSS doesn’t look that good to me.
I played around with Texture Resolution, and didn’t see any real performance difference.
I did see significant FPS increase and latency decrease when I played around with in-sim Render Scaling. I settled on 90% of 4K, which increased FPS by about 15%, without a big fidelity hit.

I’m not 100% sure what you mean by 2k, so I will mention both 1080p and 1440p
If your screen is set to a 4k resolution: TAA 50% is equivelant to 1080p, and TAA 67% is equivelant to 1440p. So if you stay at 70% or above scaling it should still look very good.
I wouldn’t lower the screen resolution because you will lose menu detail etc. I’d lower the TAA Render Scale or use DLSS Quality at 4k.
1440p is often referred to as 2K.
Often but not always, and it’s arguably incorrect!
To me, 2k is 1080p (1080x1920) in the same way that 4k is 2160p (2160x3840) because you are referring to the horizontal pixel count. So it makes sense to call 1440p (1440x2560) 2.5k.

I’m not gonna argue about it. I was just trying to help, based on YouTube videos reviewing monitors. G’day.
I run sim on a UHD TV at 3840x2160 res via HDMI 2.1 at 120Hz refresh rate and DLSS set to quality with vsync on and set to 1/3 so FPS target of 40FPS.
Gives fairly good performance. Render scale setting reductions not necessary as DLSS is a render scale reduction itself before it upscales output back to 4k.

I wan’t arguing, I was just making conversation about the fact that everyone calls 1440p 2k, but it’s technically wrong. Sorry

HD = 1920x1080 - 1080p
QHD, 2K = 2560x1440 - 1440p
UHD, 4K = 3840x2160 - 2160p
UHD, 8K = 7680x4320 - 4320p
4K Cinema = 4096x2160
8K Cinema = 8192x4320
1080p (1000x2000) is 1K (HD) …
the 1000x2000 (approx size) … ie pixel area 2000=1k 4000=2k 8000=4k etc …
As I’ve mentioned on other posts, I have I79700k RTX 2070 64GB RAM and ASUS VP32UQ 4K with very good results (I think) - using nVidia DLDSR 2.25 and DLSS Quality and mostly ULTRAs over complex scenery with FPSs of 37-55 (TLOD 90) - anything I am missing about this kind of processing - that it seems this good with these resources ?
