This guy gives a good overview of monitors for flight sims.
I have a 4k 60hz monitor, but I never run it at 4k. I have it set to 1080p, and I fly only in VR so it doesn’t need to be high res. If this is your only monitor, then having at 4k monitor will allow you to have a page of documentation open at the same time as your code editor. I think your ultrawide will work for that function as well. Cheers!
Why not both with the Alienware 38 Curved Gaming Monitor - AW3821DW? It’s both 3840 resolution which is the same horizontal resolution as typical 4K monitor. But it’s also ultrawide and big size and immersive with HDR support too.
I bought a 27in monitor a couple years ago. Then I decided to go big and just buy a 65in TV. Now I’m an armchair simmer I couldn’t be happier. I run it at 1080p and it looks awesome. My video card doesn’t have enough power for 4K.
Why wouldn’t you want a 4k for work? Also, which monitor did you end up getting? For the ultrawide I had my eye on the Alienware 34 inch AW3423DWF. People seem to speak highly of that one.
So many replies and not a single one asking for the GPU the topic starter is using. It makes a hell of a difference regarding FPS if you go for a 4K or 1440p ultrawide monitor and as such, we need to know with which GPU you want to use this monitor…
Two weeks ago I bought the AW3423DWF, AMAZING. The colors on QD-OLED are nothing compared to LCD and gives a much more immersive feeling when flying or playing any game.
I also tried the Samsung 32” Odyssey Neo G7 UHD Mini LED Gaming monitor, but I just missed the widescreen view.
There just aren’t any 4k widescreens above 60hz… a pitty.
Fully agreed. I have the AW3423DWF. Best monitor I have ever had. I never get tired of how great it looks with any game you might throw at it. I would recommend to anyone.
I have a 38 inch curved Dell. I forget the model number and I don’t want to move it around to look just now. Sorry.
I wouldn’t want 4K for work because everything on the desktop would be too small. Sure you can set Windows to render the desktop at 125% or 150%, but then why 4K? Your choice though.
So I actually don’t have a GPU right now(or gaming PC at all). I did a big move from Europe back to the US, so I sold all my gear. I’m building from scratch. Initially I figured I’d build the PC first, but realized if I don’t know what kind of monitor I’ll be using, I can’t really know what kind of GPU I should be using (exactly your point).
That being said, I have been looking at the 4080 since I’d like to try some VR again. I’ve read Nvidia GPUs are better at that than AMD. I did try VR with my last setup using a 3070 and a Quest 2 but the experience was never great. But, I’m not sure when and how much VR I’d actually do, so I may also just optimize for the monitor I end up buying. I’m still figuring that out.
