6WA2 Gower field is now an overgrown photogrammetry tree canyon

Brief description of the issue:

6WA2 Gower Field in Washington was one of the early bush strips highlighted when MSFS was released, as it’s a challenging “ski slope” field on the edge of the water. As of the USA World Update a while back, the airport is almost unusable due to huge trees, as well as photogrammetry “walls” that turn it from a rural grass strip surrounded by trees into a “canyon” of polygons.

Even trying to fix it with an add-on airport is impossible because of the photogrammetry “walls” encroaching the airport.

No offense, but I just want to state that this would take you 10 minutes to fix. All you have to do is lay down a vegetation exclusion polygon in dev mode. Super easy. Don’t take this wrong way, I’m only mentioning it in case this is a local airport that you really care about. Who knows how long it may take Asosbo to fix it. They still need to fix it though.

I find videos by Patriot Six and the Flying Theston very easy to follow, and it’s fun once you’ve started learning.

Thanks for these links. I had no idea I could get rid of “stuff in the way” that easy.

Or, you can add “stuff”.
Here is a list of default library models, actualized to the premium deluxe and 40th anniversary content.

This is the section for official bug reports. I

I’ve made airports, I can get rid of trees. I learned how, in fact, because WA17 was unusable when MSFS shipped due to huge trees blocking the runway. But I do appreciate your suggestion and the links to the tutorials for other folks who see similar issues with airports!

But with this airport, it’s not just the trees. The area is also filled with photogrammetry tree polygons which put the runway into a canyon of polygons. And because it’s a heavily sloping runway, just trying to flatten out those photogrammetry trees won’t fix things. It’d take some serious time and effort to build something usable.

I don’t think “if an airport is in the sim, it should be usable” is unreasonable or entitled. : - ) Especially when it used to be a great airport to use to show off the sim and now it’s a tree-filled polygon mess.

Thus I’m using the official bug reporting topic to report to MS/Asobo “it used to work, y’all broke it, please fix it.”

Glad I’m not the only one experiencing this with 6WA2!

Does anyone know whether there’s a way of removing/turning off the photogrammetry for this area?

Alternatively, if someone would like to make some scenery for this airstrip, that would be awesome!

Weirdly, Flightsim.to’s own search doesn’t find this, but this replacement I downloaded a few weeks ago fixes it up nicely. Found the link via Google…
