707 turbulence sound is repetitive and too loud

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

The updated 707 has a sound effect that seems to be associated with turbulence as it seems directly correlated to the nose bouncing up and down in flight. It sounds a lot like an oil derrick or that sort of mechanical, repetitive thing. In my view it’s very overdone – and quite annoying – to the point of being a bug more than a change request. I’m not sure you’d make this noise this repetitive, loud, and annoying on purpose.

Initially I thought it was meant to be the sound of the trim wheel but the sound plays when the wheel is not moving and the wheel has a separate sound.

FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

Occurs continuously during flight.

REPRODUCTION STEPS

Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue:

  1. Fly the 707

  2. Find air that isn’t perfectly smooth

  3. Listen

YOUR SETTINGS

I do not believe my settings are relevant to this issue.

MEDIA

This isn’t the most egregious example of it but here is a video with the sound: Dropbox

This might be the micro adjustmenst of the pitch trim wheel. The wheel does not move but the trim sound plays because the autopilot uses the trim for altitude and pitch hold. They need to increase the deflection threshold of the pitch trim wheel sound.

I’m also experiencing this sound in level cruise. It sounds like the trim wheel is moving continuously, but the trim wheel isn’t visibly moving.

Here’s a related (but not quite duplicate) topic about the constant trim motion: B707-320C - Pitch Oscillations - #38 by GraphicBerry931

I think this problem is two-fold: the trim should not need to move so much, and each time it moves, the trim wheel sound should not be so long.

Could a useful test be comparing perfectly smooth weather with the autopilot engaged and then disengaged? If the sound continues only with the AP active, that would help separate turbulence from repeated trim commands.

Can confirm it happens still in smooth air. its caused by the plane oscillating up and down
