747 Inertial Reference System not working after update

Yesterday I installed the latest FS2020 update which features a bunch of exciting and long awaited improvements for the 747. However, when starting from a Cold and Dark state, my IRS won’t align.

I definitely have the POS (aka Position) Page correctly completed. Can anyone help? I also tried using Menu>Settings>IRS to change it to Instant, but that didn’t help.

Regards,
Jaime

Just to confirm, you also did the italicized instruction below from the 747 manual that they released?

Blockquote
CDU Setup:
You are looking at the IDENT page. To get started, press the line select key (LSK) next to POS INIT>POS INIT page: the GPS POS should already be populated, since the aircraft has already acquired a GPS position; you may confirm the coordinates with the airport chart if you like. Press the LSK next to GPS POS to copy the position into the scratchpad, then press the LSK next to SET IRS POS. The IRS will not fully align until this step is done. Press the LSK next to ROUTE> to proceed

Good point!
I omitted this important step on my first ever flight with the 747 today, and only realized that the position on the ND was not updating when airborne. So I had to rely on the LNAV autopilot that brought me to my destination without being able to see exactly where I was on the ND. Even worse, I missed the TOD and had to use speedbrakes all the way down. At least I ended in one piece at the very end of the runway.

SET IRS POS is not there though.

Having the exact same issue. I think it has something to do with addons in the community folder because I’ve tried everything inside the airplane and it is clearly broken for some reason.

I’m just about 100% sure that if anyone takes the official tutorial and an empty community folder, everything would work.

The tutorial will not fix it. Has to be the community folder.

Missing a step could also cause issues, which is why I recommend also following the tutorial. That way you will be able to confirm if the pilot is also part of the problem

The Salty mod is currently incompatible

Only issue is that I’ve removed the salty mod and heavy mod and there’s still a problem aligning the irs. I’m not too worried about it, but if I really wanted to fly the 787 or 747 I think the community folder needs to be emptied.

You must still have a mod that is conflicting. I would check and remove all liveries first.

I’m having this issue too. :slightly_frowning_face:
Anyone got a work around or something?

No work around is needed. The problem is entirely on your end.

If you need a place to start, I would suggest to remove (or hide) your community folder so you are loading absolutely NO mods ( including liveries).

There should be nothing but default aircraft showing. Then go through the Content Manager and make sure everything is updated.

Finally, quit and restart and see if the problem still occurs.

I’m flying the 747 and 787 since the update and I can confirm that the IRS system is working fine.

It is simply not possible that there is any bug that only affects you and not me. The only possibility is you have something on your system that I don’t that is causing your problem.

Let us know the results after trying this please.

Hi Mark, thanks for your response. I started the sim in safe mode. And you are right. The IRS is working then. If I start it in normal mode it’s not working.
The strange part is that I also have the 747 8i from Bredok1 and the IRS is working there also. I really wonder what is causing this problem. I’m still trying to figure it out.

I habe the same issue… did u find a solution?

Unfortunately not. Still trying to figure it out. Maybe it’s an addon but I can’t seem to find out which one.
I’m just waiting for MSFS 2024z

I’ve the same problem. this happen when was in SCEL and the gps not allign in 747-8 Asobo.

I finally understand how bug is triggered. When you turn on battery and external power, if you switch the MCDU on POS INIT page before set IRS knobs to ALIGN and NAV, the SET IRS POS row doesn’t appear and you have to reload the flight. Instead if you turn on battery and external power and set first IRS knobs and then switch MCDU on POS INIT page the SET IRS POS row appear regularly on both MCDU. I would be grateful if someone can replicate this scenario just as confirm
