7800X3D Performance reviews for MSFS

Well, I got my hands on a 7800X3D yesterday and spent all night and this morning testing. And my conclusion was that at least for me, the 7950X3D was 6-8 fps faster than the 7800X3D. Not only that, but the 7950X3D had 7-10 better fps low’s as well. This might not be a huge difference, but as we all know, MSFS dreaded stutters is what one is always trying to get better performance. The 7950X3D just felt smoother. I did do a whole reinstall of windows just to make sure the 7800X3D was not leaving any performance on the table.

I did these tests with following:

Latin VFR KMIA at Runway 27 with clear skies and time 2PM.
3440X1440P UltraWide
Ultra Settings Preset
TLOD 205
DX11
No traffic and no multiplayer
Fenix A320

I’m not going to lie, I was expecting the 7800X3D to at least outperform the 7950X3D by at least 5 fps. This is not what I was mostly interested in. I was mostly interested in seeing the 7800X3D having better fps low’s which would make it smoother. This was the consensus since the 7800X3D has only one CCD and was assumed that there would be no latency or delays. But that was not the case. Not at least for me. At the end, the 7950X3D outperforms the 7800X3D in all aspects.

Now, here comes the interesting part. If you are a big in flying airliners and using background apps like Navigraph, Volanata, Vatsim, etc. you WILL want the 7950X3D. I found that with the 7800X3D while using these apps, there would be more stutters introduced into the sim compared to the 7950X3D. Now when I say stutters, it doesn’t mean a whole lot of stutters. You can’t hardly notice them but they are there. It’s like the 1% low’s drop a little more. The fps stays the same, but just a bit more stutters are introduced. Again, it’s so small, you probably won’t notice it. But the question lot’s of people have been asking is if there a difference while running background apps and there definitely is. This doesn’t happen with the 7950X3D. Even without background apps running, the 7950X3D sometimes opens up some of the parked cores, so MSFS sometimes definitely uses the rest of cores when it needs to aside from the 3D ones even without other apps running.

So, here is my final conclusion:

If you all you do is fly around mostly GA planes with no apps running in the background, then 7800X3D is more than what you would need. But if you do lot’s of airliners especially with many apps running in the background, even if gaming is all you do, definitely get the 7950X3D if you want the most and smoothest performance possible. I’m only speaking for my personal experience, I felt like the 7800X3D was just a big disappointment compared how I been running with the 7950X3D and for me the extra $250 is definitely worth it, but that’s just me. Rest assure, I have the peace of mind that performance in MSFS won’t be affected by using other apps.

So there you have it folks. Hopefully I was able to give some insight.
